Toilet blocked and teenagers

My toilet(only have one) is blocked and as I have three teenagers it's a bit of a nightmare. Tried the coat hanger trick, washing up liquid and hot water. Any other tips? Really can't afford a plumber!

This is a great thread. Why I hear you ask?

Because the bastard teens have blocked not one but two loos today. I mean how is that even possible Confused

What worked for me was time. Just left it for ages after giving it a plunge (and it didn't work immediately like it did on YouTube). Few hours later it finally went down!

If it's only blocked with loo roll it will disintegrate

This happened to my friend just before lockdown. Things were blocked beyond her repair so she called a local guy out to fix it. Yer, toilet paper wasn't the issue...you guessed it, jam packed full of condoms! Grin

Soda crystals. Leave for a while. Then pour a bottle of vinegar foloowed by a kettle of boiling water and stand back. Usually releases anything. Grear for blocked sinks too

Don’t put boiling water in the toilet, you can crack the bowl! Hot, sure.

Did you clear it, OP?

I’m worried about how teenagers specifically are a danger to toilets, mine are going into their teens Shock

Are the teens flushing things they shouldn't or just overdoing the arse wiping?

We had a dodgy loo and plumbing until we redid our bathroom.
I used to go outside and raid the collection of sticks my children brought home from walks. I remember asking DH to get a poo stick when it was blocked one time.
Worked a treat.

So much this.

I'd be buying less nice loo roll. The good stuff blocks when used in large quantities.

@TheSpottedZebra - back to tracing paper it is then (or am I showing my age a bit?)

We have this problem occasionally. The best method I’ve found to clear it is the bin bag round the arm method and just kind of push it all through. It’s grim, but works Envy not envy.

I'm also wondering about the relevance of the teenagers, but if it was me, I'd set them going on youtube for a solution and leave them to it.

You never know, it might inspire one of them to become a plumber and bang, you've you've paved their way to a well paid, always in demand, future career without pesky tuition fees getting in the way.

provide the teenagers with personal bins and small liners for their rooms, and get a slightly older person of the same sex to explain how to use it.

Well my teen boys don't stop eating so that's half the problem.

Also, if you have girls, remind them to not dispose of sanitary towels/tampons down the loo - lidded bin in bathroom is essential kit

I don't believe Izal will break down quickly (though I not going to hunt for some to test it.) Surely it must be worse than modern posh loo paper?

Our loo used to get terribly blocked when we had good toilet roll. I get the cheapest stuff I can find now that disintegrates as soon as it hits the water. Lidl's is great. Tissues and wipes shouldn't be flushed as they don't break down in water so make sure there's a bin for those.

Dh bought bloody 3ply loo roll the last time he went shopping, I've lost count of the times I've told him to get 2ply when he buys it.

I had this problem after I tried quilted paper; I had to switch back to supermarket's own brand.
