If you’re making pancakes today, what recipe and how do you cook them?

Some recipes say cook in butter, others oil.

How do you do yours? 🥞🥞🥞

I love buttermilk pancakes and use this recipe (minus the bacon): www.bbc.co.uk/food/recipes/buttermilk_pancakes_10390

I cook buttermilk pancakes using butter, but if I'm making the traditional variety I'd use a splash of oil.

DS (19) makes the batter to his own secret recipe.
I cook the pancakes on a reliably non-stick pan, oiled with a wipe from an oil-soaked paper towel.
You need to let the batter rest for at least half an hour after mixing it, to get a good consistency of pancake.
Thin pancakes are better than thick ones (though a well made drop scone is always welcome).

AnExcellentWalker · 16/02/2021 07:37

I put melted butter in the mixture, it is much more effective for preventing them from sticking, and delicious.

I have mine with fruit & cream.
DD & DH have theirs with a lake of syrup. HmmGrin

Isn't it tomorrow??? Shrove Tuesday I always thought (though I probably will start today!)

TierFourTears · 16/02/2021 07:38

100g plain flour, 2 eggs, 300ml milk.
Butter to grease the pan.

TierFourTears · 16/02/2021 07:38

@Deathraystare it IS Tuesday today!

gingercatsarebest · 16/02/2021 07:38

125g plain flour
300 ml milk
1 egg
pinch salt........I have just got a new frying pan and find it doesnt need any oil but I would use oil rather than butter. makes about 8 pancakes

Cantchooseaname · 16/02/2021 07:39

@Deathraystare today is Tuesday!Grin 125g plain flour, 1 egg, half pint of milk and pinch of salt. Whisk and leave for half an hour. Use hot pan and oil.

katienana · 16/02/2021 07:41

Equal parts eggs, plain flour and milk. Same as Yorkshire pudding batter. Bit of oil in the pan, get it really hot.

Talipesmum · 16/02/2021 08:04

I use butter with a little bit of oil - oil stops the butter from burning, but it still tastes nice and buttery.

dementedpixie · 16/02/2021 08:07

I'm in Scotland so I'll be having scotch pancakes or as I call them, pancakes 🥞

Kidssendingmenuts · 16/02/2021 08:09

I add water to the shaker and do it in the pan 🤣🤣 I'm a lazy mum! Lol x

Pastelpainter · 16/02/2021 08:33

First batch cooked. We had originally planned to have them for lunch but looks like they might be breakfast and lunch today! 😂

4oz plain flour and half a pint of milk to every egg. One egg makes about four pancakes.
Add a pinch of salt and cook in (salted) butter for crispy edges.

feliznavidad2 · 16/02/2021 08:40

My pancake batter is in the fridge 'resting' for after lunch... I have no idea as to whether a rest will help it.

We usually have Scotch pancakes (as they're delicious) but thin ones seem more traditional for today.

Ours will be topped with lemon and sugar or Nutella and banana. 😋

FourEyesGood · 16/02/2021 08:50

I thought I’d treat my family to buttermilk pancakes (using the recipe linked above), but they didn’t like them all that much. Sigh...
I’ll make normal ones (from the Be-ro book) at teatime. Must have a reasonably healthy lunch!

Deathraystare · 16/02/2021 09:13

@TierFourTears @Haggisfish

Well I am in my own little world and it is still Monday to me!!! So glad it is actually Tuesday!

Deathraystare · 16/02/2021 09:14

Mine are ready made from Sainsburys. I will be having some of them with lemon and sugar. The rest stay in the fridge for another day!

PolarnOPirate · 16/02/2021 09:16

We had drop scones for breakfast and for dinner kids will have cheese crepes and me and DH will have a cheese crepe bake thing 😍

Crepes - remember 1,2,3! 100g flour, 2 eggs, 300ml milk

Drop scones - 5oz plain flour, 2tsp baking powder, pinch salt, 1tbsp caster sugar, 1 beaten egg, 4-6floz milk, 1 oz melted butter. Mix to smooth batter, drop dessert spoonfuls into oiled pan.

Theunamedcat · 16/02/2021 09:17

I was wondering around the shop yesterday chatting to my son saying you know what ds it might be pancake day soon member of staff said its tomorrow Wink I genuinely thought it was Saturday yesterday Grin

Deathraystare · 16/02/2021 09:17

@Cantchooseaname @Margaritawithlime

I don't know where I am!!! To be fair I normally don't work Mondays so I am a bit confused!

EmmaStone · 16/02/2021 09:18

I always make thicker pancakes, grew up in the US, so that's my 'norm'. I use a US recipe - 1.5 cups of flour and milk, 2 eggs, a knob of melted butter. I've never been able to master thin crepe-like pancakes, so they're a special treat when in France.
