I have bought and installed ...... wait for it ........ drum roll .........

A retractable washing line for the garden. I am happily watching a duvet cover pegged to it blowing in the breeze .

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 27/02/2021 17:02

pidgeon I am impressed!!

I am the owner two clothes horses (? = Wäscheständer). I can only use one, because the other is still covered with DH's papers, who have moved back into his office.

I bought a new clothes line from Amazon, with a steel wire core. The old one had a fabric sort of core, and it snapped when I tried to put it up. (We took it down while we were having new fences installed)
EggyPegg · 27/02/2021 18:36

@OverweightPidgeon, I am jealous of your retractable clothes line. Today I got our rotary airer out of the shed and as I was reinstalling it back in the ground and fringing to convince it to stand up straight, I was considering buying one, but I'm not sure where I'd put it.

I need to buy a new Roman blind chain from Amazon. The playroom one has snapped again.

Spudlet · 27/02/2021 18:50

Oooooh, a retractable clothes line. We have a rotary one but it’s a bit rickety and a PITA. A retractable one sounds very useful - don’t think we’ve got anything suitable to attach it to though, really.

We’ve spent a lot of the day outside today, it’s been so nice in the sun. I did get totally done over by the PTA who came to drop yet another crafts pack off for DS - I was still in my dressing gown 😳 Busted as a slattern (actually I had been washing the kitchen floor and couldn’t be bothered to get dressed as I knew I’d need a shower!). I have subsequently washed the dressing gowns as they were on the verge of getting into the machine by themselves 😳

We have had a nice walk with DS on his bike, although he did fall off a couple of times... he did great though. Then I’ve made a sweet potato topped shepherds pie and am now sitting with DS watching the end of Toy Story 2 before bed.

HelenaJustina · 27/02/2021 19:30

I’m exhausted.

Spent the day being a labourer for DH who rented a scaffold tower yesterday to do some work on our roof and gutters. Also on DMiL’s roof and gutters. We dismantled and erected and moved it and emptied gutters and fitted soil pipe caps and cleaned sofits and barge boards. It goes to a max of 7.2m high which was required twice and is extremely high when the only barrier is at knee level and you are not harnessed on.

I’m not in bad shape, I can run 5k without a problem, but my arms and shoulders are killing me and I’m facing the same again tomorrow!

HelenaJustina · 27/02/2021 19:31

DH took my washing line down due to afore mentioned scaffold tower. This made me slightly peeved as it was excellent drying weather. I am also in the ‘no tumble dryer’ camp.

Holothane · 27/02/2021 19:42

Co op visit today, ice cream and Dr who tonight, the TVs crap at the weekend.

PCRB · 27/02/2021 19:48

@EggyPegg thanks for the welcome...

Hope everyone has had nice calm days. Paint still drying here! Just finished, am pooped.

OrdinaryLife · 27/02/2021 20:02

@missconductus I love that colour of towels and they look super fluffy. I'm firmly in the tumble dried camp although I do hang them out in the summer to be more eco friendly.

I've packed more boxes for our move - I thought I'd thrown out loads of clothes but apparently not. Dcat is happy that we've made lots of new sleeping spaces for her

Made 2 cakes today.

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 27/02/2021 20:29

ordinary A cat picture Smile thank you!

I practiced walking the stairs with 'The shoe' - I think I can manage it.

The idea is "good leg up, bad leg down".(As in which leg goes first)
Therainisback · 27/02/2021 20:50

When my mum had her hip done, the nurse told her to remember it by good leg first going up to heaven, bad leg first going down to hell.

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 27/02/2021 20:52

sueelleker
I'll probably have to write that in my palm or so.
Luckily I only have to get up the steps (about 100) once, then I can rest the foot for as long as I am supposed to.

Therainisback · 27/02/2021 20:55

It's so dull I know no-one cares (Grin) but we had salad, mozzarella, home made coleslaw & mini broghies with the fake chicken nuggets.
Now relaxing with a very large vodka & ginger after a 30 hour grandchildren childminding (&dog) shift.

HelenaJustina · 27/02/2021 21:01

I care @Therainisback I was going to suggest mashed potato but thought it might be too like chips to be a valuable contribution!

MissConductUS · 27/02/2021 21:12

@furrycat1978, sorry to hear you're not in the US. This thread gets very quiet in my evenings. We need more Yanks!

@OrdinaryLife, they are quite fluffy. DH has tried his and told me that we should have replaced them ages ago exactly as I have been suggesting for the last two years. That's a lovely picture of your cat. One of mine looks almost exactly the same.

Spudlet, thank you for slattern. I've added it to my biography collection of Britishisms. I'm still waiting for the Biden administration to ring to offer me the ambassadorship to the Court of St. James. They've been very busy no doubt.

Everyone is painting, cleaning gutters, etc. It makes me feel a bit lazy.

I had a very solid two hour nap this afternoon. I dreamt that several relatives showed up unannounced, expecting diner, and I was loose ends wondering if I had enough to feed them. We're having grilled teriyaki skirt steak for dinner tonight. I adore these relatives, none of them live close enough to just drop by and they wouldn't think of doing it in the first place.

I care too, @Therainisback - thank you for letting us know the final decision. The wonder of these threads is that nothing whatsoever is too boring or uninteresting. I love posts like yours and @PCRB telling us about watching paint dry. I am equally invested in @MissConductUS new towels, @soddingkitten boiler woes, @Prokupatuscrakedatus foot operation. I am
just plain nosey! Grin

Therainisback · 27/02/2021 21:24

Thank you Helena - I don't like mash, though everyone else loves it. But as I'm the cook I get to choose Wink.
Miss I have recurring themes in my dreams: always about the sea, but sometimes quite gentle & holiday-like - other times stormy seas and cliffs.

Therainisback · 27/02/2021 21:28

NYDJ thank you. I love these posts too. I am a shy introvert and struggle with conversations IRL, but find this easy (maybe because I can't see your glazed-over expressions Grin)

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 27/02/2021 21:32

DS just came in - I has cut his own hair with his DF's nail scissors. He does not care at all what he looks like - which in this case is a good thing.

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 27/02/2021 21:33

he, of course

picanoo · 27/02/2021 21:41

Today I sat on the little stool by the washing machine in the utility room waiting for the cycle to finish. Just looking at it while it did it’s little whirly thing, waiting for the beep. Took ages but couldn’t be arsed to move. Noted that it has 17 programmes but I only ever use 1.That is how exciting my life is at the moment.

MissConductUS · 27/02/2021 21:48

Welcome, @picanoo, and thanks for sharing your laundry news. As you can see, laundry is discussed here extensively. It's a perfect topic for this thread.

It is good that your life isn't exciting. Excitement can be good or bad. Being in a motor vehicle accident is quite exciting, for example.

It got up to 9 degrees C here today and I can see patches of the lawn where the snow has melted off, mostly around the trees. We won't have real spring temperatures here until May, and that's if we're lucky.
