Question about periods...anyone else have this?

SatsumaFan · 12/02/2021 20:28

So I'll come on on Tuesday, all seems normal til Thursday when around lunchtime I will suddenly stop bleeding altogether. Downsize to a panty liner... Nothing all day and night, then Friday lunchtime BAM! Back to heavy bleeding. This lasts the rest of the day and night then on the Saturday I'll usually stop again and that's it til next month.

Anyone else have this? I came off the pill a year ago and this has been happening last six months.

If it's something I was genuinely worried about I'd call a GP, but just think it's odd and not worth bothering them about so thought I'd ask on here.

Yep. Mine is usually 4 days, stop, 3 more days

Dancinggroot · 12/02/2021 20:31

I have similar.
Period starts Friday lunchtime. Heavy for about 24h, stopping Saturday midday. Then nothing til about 3am Monday morning when I wake up bleeding heavily again, which usually lasts till maybe 8/9am then that's it.

toolazytothinkofausername · 12/02/2021 20:31

I'm 3 days heavy, 3 days light, then a few days of dripping like a leaky tap.

No idea what causes it though, so no help there!

Bunnybigears · 12/02/2021 20:32

If I dont take the pill mine will be stop start all bloomin month.

APurpleSquirrel · 12/02/2021 20:32

Mine do this sometimes too. They vary each month which is a PITA as I never know which type I'll get.

doghairismyglitter · 12/02/2021 21:21

I have exactly the same thing. Started ever since I had my last child. I’ve been to the GP and they’ve checked my bloods and urine and say all is fine with everything 🤷🏼‍♀️ It’s very annoying!

Awrite · 12/02/2021 21:24

Yup, mine are heavy for 2.5 days then off for a day then light for 2 days.

Have been this way for a few years.

NotanotherboxofFrogs · 12/02/2021 21:36

Heavy 3 days, stop for a day or two, a light day and then bam back to 3 days heavy and stop and then I usually pass a large clot about 2 days later.

I'm on the implant and have endometriosis.

Ellieboolou33 · 12/02/2021 21:38

Yes same here, pre kids I was 3-4 days medium flow and now I am very similar to what you have, since having children.

doctorhamster · 12/02/2021 21:51

Heavy bleeding for 2 days, stop for up to 4 days then 3 days lighter bleeding here. It's a fecking pain in the arse.

OhLookHeKickedTheBall · 12/02/2021 21:56

I used to have this, two or three waves every period. Since I had an ablation I get it to a lesser extent, but still somewhat. Thought it was only me.

SatsumaFan · 12/02/2021 22:16

Oh it's good to know I'm not alone! So weird that it's like someone turns the tap off for a day, then turns it back on again?!

I have two children and youngest is seven. Didn't have periods like this before children, but have been on the combined pill until last year.

Sounds like it could be worse/more annoying judging by what some of you ladies are putting up with...

Yes, I get this most months to some extent and it's never occurred to me that it might be anything to worry about. The amount of times I've been caught out after thinking it's finished, gone to bed with no pad or anything and woken up next morning in a puddle of blood. It's been happening for several years now, you'd think I'd learn!

Merename · 12/02/2021 22:25

I’ve always had this, 3 days, nothing day, then 1-2 last days, and wondered what it’s about, would love if someone medical could explain!

Heatherjayne1972 · 12/02/2021 22:26

Gynaecologist told me this was part of the peri menopause

idontlikealdi · 12/02/2021 22:27

Yep me too would fit with other peri shitty symptoms

Milomonster · 12/02/2021 22:42

Yep started during lockdown. I read somewhere it could be due to the positioning of the uterus. Makes sense tbh as I work from bed in an awful posture.

Mischance · 12/02/2021 22:47

Mine were at least 7 days of heavy painful bleeding every month - hooray for the wonderful hysterectomy!!!

TheSockMonster · 12/02/2021 22:53

It happened to me two periods in a row a few years back. I put it down to my hormones randomly fucking with me. Who knows?

Charlieandlola · 12/02/2021 22:53

Me too -
3 days , one day off , another 2 days and finish .

chipsandgin · 12/02/2021 23:04

A bit TMI so apologies - but it’s 3 days of haemorrhaging tsunami, day 4 barely anything, days 5-10 almost normal (but what others may consider heavy - changing everything every two hours or so). It’s been like this for a couple of years now & I’m nearly 50.

Along with the horrendous pain, weakness, haemorrhaging & anaemia was was supposed to have a hysterectomy last year, but all delayed for now. One small silver lining is that I can suffer in the comfort of my own home when it happens (every 24 days, fun times).. I wondered if it is caused by a build up of blood clots that block everything for that day, but that might be specific to my horrendous periods or completely wrong!? Bring on the actual menopause..(which my Mum didn’t have until nearly 60, so may be waiting a while here!).

missrm · 12/02/2021 23:15

Day 1 - pinkish light blood spots, cramping, bloat that lasts a few days

Day 3 - light blood.

Day 4 - tsunami.

Day 5 - nothing.

Day 6/7 spotting/clots

Great isn't it.

I've done this a few times before too! Am always suspicious now when I get to day 3 or 4 and then stop... I now know I've just got a day of nothing and then wait. Luckily today I was on the loo when the tap was suddenly turned back on, full open Blush

Sounds exactly the same as me.

Weird "day off" in between. But the 2 days after it comes back so heavy for a few hours then ebbs back away.
