Tell me about your favourite cheese....

It’s cold and dark outside and the world is a bit sad. But we still have cheese. Fellow- travellers, tell me about your all-time favourites.

For me, the Alps have the best cheeses. From the fresh little, ashy, goaty crottins to a hearty Abondance. I love Beaufort, even with dodgy Swiss wine. Can take or leave Reblochon, and object to the way it can make a whole chalet smell of itself. Adore Raclette with pommes sapeurs.

Closer to home, you can’t beat Cashel Blue or soft, sheepy Wigmore. And when I make it to the cheese stall at the market, an aged, crumbly Gouda with so much umami it makes my ears tickle.

Cheer me up, share your cheese!

Roquefort. Shocked no one else has mentioned!

Skegness Blue is delicious.

Also some lovely hard cheese like a vintage Lincolnshire poacher. Baron Bigod, Gurney Gold and there's a glorious cheddar whose name escapes me!
