Do you wear make-up every day? How do you find the time with small DC.

I used to, I wouldn't go anywhere without wearing foundation/powder/blush/eyeshadow/the works. I used to make a real effort.

That all changed when I had my first baby, make up was something reserved for special occasions as I just couldn't justify the 45 mins it took to make an effort.

Baby #2 came along and I virtually never wear make up now. I miss it.

I've bought myself some new cosmetics to try and rekindle my love for it but I just can't find the time or motivation. The kids are toddlers and don't afford me a spare hour every morning.

I have a mum on Facebook with 6 children, all very young, and she regularly posts pictures of her with her DC and she looks wonderfully made up. Tan and full glam.

Is it truly difficult to make such an effort every day with small children or am I just depressed Confused

I wear make up every work day because it takes less than 5 minutes to apply.

notacooldad · 11/02/2021 10:06

I always wore make up when my kids were babies. It didn't take 45 mind though. My eyebrows and eye lashes were always tinted with a few extra lashes put in.
On a day to day basis I just used bobbi brown tinted moisturiser, a lip gloss and a gel eyeliner and maybe a creme blush. You dont need much more than that.
You need to be time smart. 🤓

whatswithtodaytoday · 11/02/2021 10:07

I do, because I feel like shit without it. Possibly not the healthiest reason but if I don't do my make up I don't feel 'ready' for the day. However, it's nothing major and nothing like what I used to wear - most days it's just a very light bit of foundation to even out my skintone, lots of concealer under my eyes and one coat of mascara. Smudgy eyeliner if I'm seeing other humans (rare, these days). Takes five minutes, do-able even with my two year old in the room.

One of the things I miss most during the pandemic is getting ready to go out somewhere - I love doing proper make up.

I wear makeup every day but it takes about 3 minutes - foundation, blush and eyes. I don't think it's ever taken me 45 minutes to do my face, even on my wedding day! Perhaps see what just a little can do to make you feel better if you don't have time to do it all?

What do you use?

It takes me at least 30-45 minutes to apply everything I used to wear. An hour if I'm making a proper effort.

Used to do a 20 minute face. Now it's tinted moisturiser, blusher, mascara and eyebrows, with ds passing me each one and putting it back in the bag afterwards. Five minutes. I actually suspect it looks nicer these days.

When things get desperate, just the eyebrows Hmm

Cheesewiz · 11/02/2021 10:10

Before lockdown, I would wear full face everyday. I would say the more you do it, the faster you get. After dc, never wore make up unless special occasion and would take me 40-40 minutes to do full face but now I have it down to 15-20 minutes

ItbarelysnowsinLondon · 11/02/2021 10:11

Ah that's probably my problem, I'm thinking of being proper made up rather than dabbing on the basics for a healthier glow Grin

I don't really need a face full of make up to feel nice do I?

A bit of mascara, some concealer, and filled in eyebrows would probably make the world of difference.

trunumber · 11/02/2021 10:11

Also takes me 3 mins, probably less actually.

Foundation
Eyeliner
Eyelash curler
Mascara
Lip tint
Brush brows
Done

If you miss make up it doesn't have to be perfect, as you get used to it you'll mind there isn't much difference from when you spent 45 mins anyway.

trunumber · 11/02/2021 10:13

Ps the extra glam mums just find the time for it if it's important to them. I choose to sleep but I could get up earlier to groom, or not go on Mumsnet ...

rorosemary · 11/02/2021 10:13

I also only need minutes. I put on brown eye pencil, use a brush to smudge it out upwards to create a light smokey/eyeshowy effect and lightly apply again, a bit of mascara, a little foundation under the eyes, on the middle of the forehead and chin and down the middle of my nose, then apply a long lasting matte lipstick. Done. Its not perfect make up but it makes me look put together and that within minutes.

My eye makeup is from chanel and I like lipsticks ffom MAC.

ItbarelysnowsinLondon · 11/02/2021 10:13

I must admit I'm a bit jealous of the mums who do have the motivation to look glamorous every day, some of the women on my social media accounts look flawless every day. Tan, lashes, beautiful brows, nails etc.

rorosemary · 11/02/2021 10:14

I do colour my eyebrows once a month so their halfway decent without makeup

rorosemary · 11/02/2021 10:15

*they're

Sorry for the grammatical mistake

ItbarelysnowsinLondon · 11/02/2021 10:15

I'm going to have a go today, I'll give myself 10 minutes and see what the end result is Smile

I wear make up every day and it takes 3 minutes.

I use foundation, blusher, powder, mascara, lipstick, eyebrow pencil

Contouring etc will all take more time so I suppose you need to decide whats worth your time.

I presume the woman with all the children on facebook gets up very early to present herself in that way

Milkshake7489 · 11/02/2021 10:22

I'm a new mum so can't really comment on finding time with children but I haven't worn makeup every day since I was a teen!

Maybe I have especially sensitive skin but I find that I look far more even and 'glowy' if I let my skin breathe most days and save makeup for when I'm doing something special.

But if it makes you happy, you can definitely do your makeup in less than 45 minutes! Smile. Just search for quick tutorials on YouTube.

SuperbGorgonzola · 11/02/2021 10:25

Not every day but if I feel like it, I can find time. I don't think i even soend 45 minutes on it for a special occasion though tbf.

I tend to apply moisturiser in the morning when i clean my teeth and get dressed, then I can generally find 5 minutes to put some make up on during the morning nap, which is also when i tend to sort laundry out and get the beds made etc.

ServeTheServants · 11/02/2021 10:27

Yes, definitely try and cut the time down. I do spend 5 minutes doing my foundation and a tiny bit of contouring / blush / highlighter, as I think a good base is key.

Watch some YouTube videos in the evening after the kids are in bed; you’ll see there are lots of tutorials on “everyday” routines. I love Stephanie Lange, although she does far fewer videos on make up than she used to (but obviously all the old ones are still there). She lists all the products / brushes she uses.

I’m not sure how old your DC are, but I’ve always told mine that I just need that 15 minutes to get myself ready and they just know it’s part of my daily routine.

Good luck!

alanpartridgefromtheoasthouse · 11/02/2021 10:30

I do and it takes me less than 5 minutes.

Tinted moisturiser, eyebrow pencil, mascara (eyeliner if time) and a dusting of blusher.

I haven't gone the whole hog (eyeshadow etc) once in the last 12 months.

Warrickdaviesasplates · 11/02/2021 10:32

I definitely don't look glam everyday but I do wear a full face of makeup.

I have gotten into the routine of doing it while the kids eat breakfast as DS is a terrible sleeper and I find it impossible to get up earlier than him with the broken sleep.

When DD was tiny I used to do my makeup at the table while she ate.

ItbarelysnowsinLondon · 11/02/2021 10:37

I should add that the reason it takes me so long is because I have crap skin, I developed hormonal acne after having my DC and I have quite alot of red marks / scarring left which takes a bit of time to cover properly and make it unnoticeable.

OP posts:
theneverendinglaundry · 11/02/2021 10:44

I wear it every day and it takes 5 minutes to apply. Foundation, concealer, highlighter, blush and mascara. That's it.

You don't have to wear makeup of course. But if you want to, maybe you just need to simplify your routine!

ArchbishopOfBanterbury · 11/02/2021 10:46

Before lockdown I did, if I was going to work or seeing someone, but I haven't in a year or so.

Now I'm glad DC can see, my natural face (and theirs) is perfectly acceptable and inoffensive in public.

Lockdown has really helped me accept my face without make up (like most blokes always do, without even thinking).

trunumber · 11/02/2021 11:11

I used to have crap skin (cutting out dairy made a big difference) but so did the right foundation. I used to use double wear by Estée Lauder and again that took 1 min
