Do you wear make-up every day? How do you find the time with small DC.

I used to, I wouldn't go anywhere without wearing foundation/powder/blush/eyeshadow/the works. I used to make a real effort.

That all changed when I had my first baby, make up was something reserved for special occasions as I just couldn't justify the 45 mins it took to make an effort.

Baby #2 came along and I virtually never wear make up now. I miss it.

I've bought myself some new cosmetics to try and rekindle my love for it but I just can't find the time or motivation. The kids are toddlers and don't afford me a spare hour every morning.

I have a mum on Facebook with 6 children, all very young, and she regularly posts pictures of her with her DC and she looks wonderfully made up. Tan and full glam.

Is it truly difficult to make such an effort every day with small children or am I just depressed Confused

45 minutes? Mine takes 4-5 minutes. I enjoy wearing make up. I don’t wear it every single day but most days. It makes me feel good about myself. I think, if you want to wear it of course, you need to really look at that make up routine! I just stick on moisturiser, a stick foundation (takes 2 mins if that), stick eye shadow, gel eye liner and mascaras. 5 mins Max.

LouNatics · 11/02/2021 12:52

I could easily spend 45 minutes messing with my hair but even if I went super slowly I’m not sure if I could eke applying make up out to ten minutes.

I put on moisturiser before I get dressed
Then after I dress I put some foundation on, swizz it around with a foam pad.
Dab extra on to my acne scars and sometimes use a brush to blend.
Slide some brown eyeshadow down the eyebrows. Pink on the eyelids. Liquid Liner, mascara.

That’s a full face of make up to me.

Fispi · 11/02/2021 12:53

Pre baby I could mess about for 45 mins on makeup easily but not every day, only 5 min make up for work. Now its 5 mins if going out and nothing if staying home. Even work make up is hugely diminished. I have to wear a mask and goggles for the whole shift so anything more than concealer and mascara is pointless. I am lucky though and have really good skin so base is a quick job.

Mine takes 5 mins or a bit more if I mess up the top eyeliner. Exact order:

-moisturise and lip balm, 30-45 seconds (well I moisturise face first thing out of the shower so by the time I've moisturised body and put clothes on its all sunk in ready for makeup)
-thin layer of foundation buffed in, around 30-45 seconds. I absolutely love my buffing brush, can't stand to use anything else.
-eyebrow pencil to fill in sparse areas of my brows, 30-45 seconds
-top eyeliner with a bit of a wing, 60 to 90 seconds
-bit of pencil kohl liner in lower waterline, not even 30 seconds
-few lashings of mascara, about 30 seconds
-bit of bronzer about 20 seconds
-occasionally a neutral bit of lipstick if I fancy, 30 seconds.

I dont contour or highlight or lip line or any of that stuff for an everyday look.

I do, and I'm SAHM with 3 including 6m and 2yr old. But not 45 minutes. I usually hand the baby to DH and leave the other two with breakfast. 15 minutes tops including wash and teeth and I do a fairly full face. I know this because DH has timed me! Not because he's mean but because I had ten minutes between his zoom meetings and over ran by 4! I don't have time to shower in the mornings as my hair takes longer.

I just feel like I'm festering unless I get ready for the day. Plus I love all the potions 😀

Usually strip wash, moisturiser, teeth, lip balm
Dress, deodorant
Cc cream, concealer
Eyebrow pencil
Eyeshadow crayon smudge
Quick winged liner
Mascara
Liquid blush, dust of powder
Lippie

@TotorosFurryBehind @Lucylivesinamushroomhouse

I also feel weird about make up now I'm a mum, I have a son and sometimes he asks me why I'm drawing on my eyes and I've got to be honest and tell him I'm not really sure ... it does seem odd when I really think about it (and I do worry about the message it gives him about women )

TheVolturi · 11/02/2021 15:51

Can't imagine spending 45mins to put makeup up!
I take 5 mins, moisturise, eye cream, primer, bit of foundation, fill brows, flick of mascara and sometimes bit of blusher/bronzer/highlighter. Makes me feel human and presentable, I honestly can't imagine spending longer than that!

Ginfordinner · 11/02/2021 16:00

I don't have time to shower in the mornings as my hair takes longer.

Why not wear a shower cap?

One of the reasons I don't wear mascara is the faff of removing it every night.

Spring2021 · 11/02/2021 16:07

I don’t even spend 45 mins on make up to out and mine are teens!!!

In lockdown I rarely ever wear make up at all. In normal times if I was going to work, going into town and felt rubbish or washed out I would do liquid blusher (beauty and the boutique) and a neutral Clarins chubby stick on my lips and occasionally a tinted moisturiser and I look and feel much better and semi alive.
But I couldn’t be annoyed with a full face of make up and mascara every day I would only do this if I was going out, out (which is quite rare).
Just do you, don’t bother what other people are doing or not doing. To me if I have had a quick shower and have a nice moisturiser on my face and have a tiny bit of perfume on I feel ok and can face the day (anything else is a bonus).

FuckyouCovid21 · 11/02/2021 16:08

Why do you need to look glamourous every day though, who can be arsed with that? I certainly can't, it's not like I could go anywhere anyway, just a waste of products IMO

KarensChoppyBob · 11/02/2021 16:11

10 minutes for me (after shower/moisturiser), it's a well tuned habit.

AIMD · 11/02/2021 16:14

I don’t wear daily make up because I just can’t be arsed but I have always wondered how mums with a few children and beautiful make up manage to do it.

This thread has been a revelation. Didn’t realise so many people did their make up so quick. I take at least 20 mins for basic (foundation, eyes, blusher, mascara) and it doesn’t even end up very well.

Are there 5 min make up tutorials?!

KarensChoppyBob · 11/02/2021 16:18

I think foundations are overrated, most of us don't need them it's a con! Tinted moisturiser is fine if you need that extra, if you have simple good bone structure you don't even need that obvious awful contouring ( great in photos maybe, too obvious in RL).

goldielockdown2 · 11/02/2021 16:20

I started having children quite young and wouldn't have stopped wearing makeup. I do a full face even now...I guess I'm used to it? But I wouldn't if I didn't enjoy it. I just do it as part of my morning routine.

Itstheprinciple · 11/02/2021 18:06

Takes 5 mins, foundation, eye liner, mascara, fill in brows a bit, bronzer. Don't do much more for a night out (remember those?) except maybe a bit of eye shadow. Definitely doesn't take 45 mins though. Have always done make up, child or no child.

Luckyelephant1 · 11/02/2021 18:49

@FuckyouCovid21 it's not really about looking glam though, I certainly don't look glam after my 5 minute routine. It makes me feel more awake and if I catch sight of myself in the mirror during the day I don't look like a zombie. The days that I haven't bothered with any makeup are the days I feel sloppy, fuzzy and almost dirty all day even if I've showered.

HazeyJaneII · 11/02/2021 19:04

I don't think I've ever had a day where I haven't got make up on, but it has never taken more than 10 minutes.

BakewellGin1 · 11/02/2021 19:09

Since this lockdown I really havnt motivated myself for make up however I cleanse, moisturise etc

When at work I can do foundation, mascara, shape and fill in brows and blusher in approx 5 minutes

Going out make up I like to allocate 30 min for make up and 20 to properly straighten hair...

What I really miss is having a tan

Floraflower3 · 11/02/2021 19:09

I take 10 mins (sometimes 15) to do this in a rush before work: foundation, concealer, eyebrows, bronzer, blush, highlighter, mascara, powder and gloss. I think you need to find good products and shortcuts.

I use a full coverage foundation (not in a cakey layer) where one coat is sufficient for decent coverage. Concealer I just do a bit under my eyes then blend with my finger. My eyebrows are pretty well shaped so I just brush them up with brow gel then fill in sparse areas quickly. Multitask with your products e.g use bronzer for eye shadow.

Look up 10 min tutorials on YouTube.

Bourbonbiccy · 11/02/2021 19:34

Most days, but I just use tinted cream, eye liner, mascara, lip liner, 24hr lipstick, done in about 5 mins.

ItbarelysnowsinLondon · 11/02/2021 19:56

Does anybody care to reccomend a good bronzer? Drug store preferably as I can't justify spending ££ on something I barely find the motivation to use 😂

The ones I have always look like mud over the top of foundation.

Itstheprinciple · 11/02/2021 20:52

I use an Avon one.

thethoughtfox · 11/02/2021 21:24

I have semi-permanent make up in my eyebrows which was a game changer. Nars All Day Luminous foundation is amazing. It covers everything in one layer even acne and scarring. Mascara. Tiny bit of cream blush. Takes a few minutes.

MrsPworkingmummy · 11/02/2021 21:40

I do, and always have, worn it despite now having two children aged 9 and 3. It takes me 5 to 10 minutes and is part of my daily routine . Under eye concealer, foundation, powder, neutral eye shadow, mascara, eye liner, eyebrows filled in, lip balm, lip liner.

Bugbeau · 11/02/2021 21:41

I do (although still go out to work mon-Fri might have given up by now if I was at home during lockdown) but it takes me about 5 mins, just eyebrows, mascara, tinted moisturiser, small amount of blusher/bronzer and tinted lip balm & I’m done. Would make more effort with eye make up etc if going out but obviously never go out now!
