Do you wear make-up every day? How do you find the time with small DC.

I used to, I wouldn't go anywhere without wearing foundation/powder/blush/eyeshadow/the works. I used to make a real effort.

That all changed when I had my first baby, make up was something reserved for special occasions as I just couldn't justify the 45 mins it took to make an effort.

Baby #2 came along and I virtually never wear make up now. I miss it.

I've bought myself some new cosmetics to try and rekindle my love for it but I just can't find the time or motivation. The kids are toddlers and don't afford me a spare hour every morning.

I have a mum on Facebook with 6 children, all very young, and she regularly posts pictures of her with her DC and she looks wonderfully made up. Tan and full glam.

Is it truly difficult to make such an effort every day with small children or am I just depressed Confused

No. I work from home, and I like to let my skin breathe. I put on a bit of lippy for Teams calls, but that's it.

Frankinmachine · 11/02/2021 11:16

When my dc were young I did a 5 min make up while they were having their breakfast. I kept my make up bag and a mirror in the kitchen and sat at the table with then while they were eating.

Henio · 11/02/2021 11:19

I get early before my dd wakes up to shower, dry my hair and stick some make up on, most days its only foundation to cover my red skin 😆 If I can be bothered i'll use mascara and eyeliner too

It takes me 20 mins. I’ve always managed to wear make up each day but I look completely shocking without it so it’s non negotiable.

skidadle · 11/02/2021 11:45

I have a 10 month old and a 22 month old. I wear make up every day if we go out. Just foundation a bit of bronzer and mascara, takes about 15-20 mins. Think when you have little ones you need to try and make an effort to feel good about yourself

JMAngel1 · 11/02/2021 11:48

When mine were really young, and I had skin with lots to cover, I used to use a mineral powder foundation (not Bare Minerals - contains bismuth which can make acne worse) which was dead easy just to swirl around face and covers everything - 2 minutes tops.
I also used to keep my make-up bag in the kitchen and do a little bit at a time whilst sorting kitchen, getting them breakfast/bottles. Made it easier than thinking I had to find a block of time upstairs.

TotorosFurryBehind · 11/02/2021 11:51

I stopped wearing it since I had DD. I realised I'm good enough without it, beautiful even. I tell her every day that she is beautiful and never want her to feel like she needs make up.

Last week she found my old make up bag and asked what it was for and I didn't quite know what to tell her...I told her some people like to put make up on their faces to look colourful. She asked if she could put some on me and O said yes. She then spent 20 minutes colouring in my face with my nice (Sephora) lip pencils and eyeliner... becoming a mother has definitely changed how I feel about myself in a very positive way Smile

Apart from a few weeks in the middle of lockdown #1 (when I embraced the inner slob in me!) I have worn makeup every day and got dressed, even if it is just leggings etc.

Make up wise, I slap on a bit of foundation, some stretch concealer, a cream blush. Then just a solid shade of eyeshadow, some liquid liner (a pen one for ease) and then mascara.

Takes about 6 mins. I honestly don’t know how anybody takes 45 mins to do make up. What takes so long?! (Genuine Q!)

Ginfordinner · 11/02/2021 11:59

I'm going to have to throw my foundation out as it has been open too long and barely used.

millymollymoomoo · 11/02/2021 12:00

Yes everyday even as full time working mum of 2

Doesn’t rage 45 mins though
Shower, wash hair, put make up on without fail

Use foundation, powder, eyebrow pencil, mascara and lipstick m. Make up takes 5 mins?

MindBodyChocolate · 11/02/2021 12:08

It doesn’t sound like the social media accounts you’re following are really helping. You do know that there are many women and mums who don’t go for, or even like, the tan, lashes, brows look, right?!

Experiment with a different, lighter look. I spend 10 mins tops on make up and think I look pretty good. And not a false eyelash or micro bladed brow in sight :)

Strokethefurrywall · 11/02/2021 12:09

5 mins tops for me and always has been.

Foundation
Eyebrow shape/fill
Eyeliner/Mascara
Contour bronzer
Highlighter or blush

If I'm going out I'll do some more eyeliner, maybe some shadow and line/fill my lips.

I'm not sure what I'd spend an hour doing on my face!

Ginfordinner · 11/02/2021 12:12

I think one of the reasons I am low maintenance is that I am at home all the time, except for a supermarket shop or a walk. I am also lucky enough to have good skin and have dark eyebrows and eyelashes. I also wear glasses so people don't really see my old and wrinkly eyes.

In summer I use a bit of fake tan on my face rather than tinted moisturiser.

GiveMeAllTheGin8 · 11/02/2021 12:13

Every morning I have a shower , wash hair and put make up on. I feel so much better when I’m ready for the day! I have a shower first thing so dds either watch tv or wander in . Takes 10 mins.
After breakfast I dry hair which only takes 10 mins as it’s so fine and make up takes 5 minutes in total - foundation , bronzer and a bit of mascara .
At the moment I do make up and hair while one dd is doing her school work and toddler dd is playing beside me . Normal times its usually a rush trying to get it done !

GiveMeAllTheGin8 · 11/02/2021 12:14

Now my eye brows on the other hand , haven’t seen a tweezers since last March - something I should sort Blush

Ginfordinner · 11/02/2021 12:17

Do people really wear make up when they are staying at home all day?

justanotherneighinparadise · 11/02/2021 12:22

@Ginfordinner

Do people really wear make up when they are staying at home all day?
Yep! My face gives an affirmative.
mindutopia · 11/02/2021 12:24

If I have to be on a zoom call or we're going out anywhere (which we mostly aren't at the moment). It takes about 3 minutes to apply though. Dh and I both have time to get ready in the mornings.

ElspethFlashman · 11/02/2021 12:28

I still go to work but I wear an FFP2 mask the whole day so it has definitely changed my make up.

I used to do the whole hog every morning. Now, I just use concealer and mascara and powder and setting spray (essential for masks and still only preserves 50% of it but it's better than losing 100%)

So I have fluttery eyelashes but the rest of my face is much less impressive, lol.

I stripe concealer on my forehead too, and blend it with a buffing brush.

I recently found a foundation stick from Primark that I'm going to start using from tomorrow. Hopefully that will be labour saving.

But pre-pandemic I was already changing the way I presented my face to the world. In 2019 I used tan drops in my facial moisturiser so I didn't need much coverage. I guarantee those women you're looking at are doing the same. Once masks go, I'll go back to that. Even bare faced people say you're "looking well". What they mean is that you're not looking pale and wan!

Oh and stick blushers are really great. Really want to get my hands on those Milk ones even though logically I won't use them much at the moment! Blush

guest2013 · 11/02/2021 12:32

I've got 3 kids, work full time and wear make up every day. I get up earlier and have breakfast at the office. I've always done it, even when they were tiny. Its just a matter of whether you prioritise it, if you really want to do it, then you will. Just like parents who work out or do anything for themselves, you'll find time if its important to you.

Twilightstarbright · 11/02/2021 12:33

I timed myself and I took 2.5 minutes.

Eborian BB cream
Glossier eyeliner pencil
Clinique mascara
Benefit dandelion blush
Benefit browzing dark wax
Tinted lip balm

Practice helps, and prep- eyebrows are plucked, home face mask once a week etc.

It's my face and I like wearing makeup. DS and DH aren't bothered!

CeibaTree · 11/02/2021 12:34

If I'm leaving the house I'll put on a bit of cheek bronzer and some mascara - it takes less than a minute to do that. But that was my make-up regime pre-children anyway! :)

AColdDuncanGoodhew · 11/02/2021 12:38

I wear makeup a few days out the week:

Under eye corrector, concealer where I need it (stopped using foundation last year, cream blusher, bit of highlighter, brow pencil, one eyeshadow, mascara. Takes me 10 minutes at an absolute push but more like 5.

Lucylivesinamushroomhouse · 11/02/2021 12:39

Before kids I used to wear eyeliner, mascara and bit of blusher every day. Managed to get back into it when first child was about 8 months old and I went back to work. Since second child it has been reserved for special occasions. Even though it only takes 5 minutes, that’s 5 minutes I would prefer to spend sleeping.

Also I felt a bit uncomfortable about the message it was sending to my girls. They actually love wearing makeup (/face paint!) and I still wear it for shows (back when am dram theatre was a thing 😢) and special occasions but I’m glad they know that my face is fine the way it is for the most part. Just like their dad’s is (and if he was into an dram he’d have to wear makeup on stage too!).

Ace1185 · 11/02/2021 12:41

I wear foundation, blusher, mascara and tinted lip balm. Takes 5 minutes. If I'm staying in I at least wear mascara and lipbalm
