@SewVeryLazy

I particularly liked the question on the quiz of whether you were born on 30th Feb, I wonder if just putting yes to that question alone would change your result (it was too long a test for me try it)
It was there to check you were actually reading the questions.

There was another one later that said answer this one with 'whatever option 4 was' just to prove you are paying attention.

It's almost like there's been a dearth of accurate and critical reading recently isn't there? Grin

That Morrison’s video Shock That’s shaken me man.

I have a story. It’s a fun one. I live in a maisonette and I occupy the 1st and 2nd floor, and then there is a maisonette below me that is the ground floor and the basement.

My neighbour below knocks on my door crying that her toilet is overflowing and her bath is full of shit- so my first thought is ok the overflow pipe is blocked (the drain cover is located in the corridor). She’s distressed and being a good neighbour as her rental estate agents fobbed her off, I got her in contact with the landlord directly.

The landlords husband then rang me and shouted at ME (erm.. I’m trying to help you, you have a blockage and your flat is covered in shit... but nice) so I hung up on him because i don’t need shouting at.

On my end I contacted the sewage workers and they made it a priority case (they won’t come til tomorrow now) but my neighbour is obviously distressed and I’m trying to help her as best as I can

So the landlord and her husband turn up and have a look at the overflow pipe. Then they knock on my door. I go into the alleyway where it’s located and the husband started shouting off at me for no reason (I’ve helped you and stopped your flat flooding with shit?!) so i shouted back and it fucking kicked off.

Somehow I’m the villain even though I’m trying to help people out

So I told them well fuck you all... this isn’t my fucking problem. He shouted at me ‘this is your shit in here! Do you want me to help you or not?!’ I was like what do you mean help ME?? It’s not MY house that’s covered in shit Confused

So I spoke to the owner and she was all cool and I was like look I contacted you so that you know that your rental company isn’t doing their job and your flat could potentially be damaged... but I won’t bother next time

So much for being a good neighbour eh!

I thought that was an extremely well designed survey - although I think it was missing a back button for if you made a mistake.

Worldgonecrazy · 18/02/2021 06:20

@DWPmisery1972 you forgot to account for the STUPID.

Well done for being a great neighbour.

thefallthroughtheair · 18/02/2021 07:33

Just catching up - been hiding from the world for a while.
I came up as Sceptic too.

Just been over there for a lookie and keep seeing "the vaccine doesn't mean you won't transmit covid".
I'm sure it does to some extent, or has that been disproven now?

Also we are all selfish law breakers in the North.....apparently. Will this blame game ever stop?

Ooh never been so proud to be an honorary northerner. Grin

I've just seen the most batshit response ever on another thread. Apparently it's much safer and better to do sex work at home as a cam girl, with your baby in the house, than put your baby into nursery and work in a supermarket, because doing that would mean you could catch Covid. Shock

TooManyPlatesInMotion · 18/02/2021 09:10

@SirSamuelVimes ah right, perfect. So all female front line workers could "stay safe", dodge nursery fees and boost their self esteem by becoming cam girls?! I really have heard it all on mumsnet now. I'll take my chances in the grocery aisle I think. Shock

Bollss · 18/02/2021 09:15

Morning all.

Same shit, different day. And it's raining, and forecast to do so all weekend. Excellent.

mightbealittlebitmad · 18/02/2021 09:19

I'm so fed up of hearing how schools shouldn't be opening soon. Why can't they be essential like supermarkets?! My 5 year old has had a breakdown this morning because his 3 year old brother is going to nursery and he will miss him. He hasn't played with another child apart from 2 days he was at school since before Christmas, how is that acceptable?!

I'm going to try push for a place starting Monday but I'm not holding out much hope. If schools don't open for him on the 8th and his school won't take him I dread the fallout for both him and me. I'm already on the edge as it is, several more weeks will just push me over.

TabbyStar · 18/02/2021 09:32

This is a good explanation of why lockdowns have minimal effect by David Paton, a professor at one of the Nottingham universities https://www.spiked-online.com/2021/02/17/we-do-not-need-lockdown-to-keep-covid-under-control/

Meanwhile DD (17) is now having a health scare (possibly of the urgent referral kind), not helped by me not being able to go into her appointment with her yesterday to work out what's going on. I've had pretty much no sleep and now the fecking neighbours are banging away with their perpetual DIY. I feel I need some mental health support but I'm on a waiting list to be put on the waiting list apparently Hmm though Boris says there's mental health support there for you - a man who's clearly never needed to actually access any NHS mental health support.

starfish88 · 18/02/2021 09:40

@SirSamuelVimes I think I prefer the suggestion of being a cam girl to 'take in ironing', the standard MN response to anyone who needs money. I don't know anyone who sends their ironing to a poor friend or neighbor, it sounds like something that requires a Victorian mop cap.

Blobby10 · 18/02/2021 10:52

Hoping that someone can help as this has been niggling at me all week since a conversation with my mum! Many years ago when chickenpox wasn't a life-threatening-needing-innoculation illness, my dad (then aged 35 ish) caught chicken pox from me. He was really really ill and the doctor told him he mustn't go into work after hours (own business) or he would end up with his back in a plaster cast for 3 months. He obeyed and recovered fine. Some weeks later my uncle caught CP but ignored this advice, went into work after hours (as he was so important!) and ended up in a back cast for 3 months.

Does anyone know/can anyone remember why this would have been needed? I can't find anywhere that mentions back issues in adult CP sufferers but it seems to have been a very common 'thing' in the 1970s.

Worldgonecrazy · 18/02/2021 11:28

@Blobby10 perhaps it’s because it can cause back pain and in the 70s rest and immobilisation was recommended rather than the movement and exercise we recommend today? I know chickenpox can be debilitating in adults.

Blobby10 · 18/02/2021 11:33

@Worldgonecrazy good point - its fascinating how the advice has changed over the years isn't it?! My uncle also had a bad dowagers hump so possibly a weakness in the spine (inherited from my grandmother's side of the family). Dad still stands and walks ramrod straight !

countrygirl99 · 18/02/2021 12:17

I've never heard about the plaster cast thing but a friend 's DH caught chicken pox in his 40s. It turned to cellulitis and then sepsis. He was touch and go for a couple of days, in ITU for a couple of weeks and was lucky to 1) survive 2) not lose his lower leg. It was 6 months before he was back at work full time, not right for about 12. I guess that makes it was long chicken pox.

And yet if you don't want the vaccine you're "putting others at risk". Pick a side, guys, any side, but then stick with it.

Long chicken pox doesn't sound 'bad enough'. Should just be 'Long Pox' Wink
Blobby10 · 18/02/2021 12:40

I know its a particularly nasty virus to catch during adulthood but had heard the plaster cast thing from a couple of sources and wondered if anyone else knew any specific reason why the back should be affected?

Bollss · 18/02/2021 12:43

I had it at 18 and it was horrendous, totally floored me and to top it off I had a reaction to the virus itself and my face swelled up so that was fun. Didn't have any back issues though! Never heard about the plaster cast thing though

Long Pox
😂😂😂 @2020BogOff

NannyGythaOgg · 18/02/2021 12:53

70s saw me 15 to 25 and did nurse training from 73 to 76 and have never heard of chickenpox causing those complications although I was aware it was a worse disease in adults and could be dangerous.
Chickenpox/shingles is a (vaguely) similar virus to cold sores (herpes zoster and herpes simplex) and it lodges in the nerves in the same kind of way so I guess it is kind of logical that it can cause serious issues.
In the same way cold sores can be extremely dangerous for babies. Most people, even if they don't get cold sores, carry the herpes virus and in babies (and even more rarely adults) it can cross the brain barrier and cause encephalitis.

DH got chicken pox off our lovely children in his 30s. He also got infected spots & his forehead swelled up. GP just prescribed antibiotics, but with hindsight I think he should've been in hospital. It took months for the swellings to go down.

I'm nursing the remnants of a migraine (although according to some news reports yesterday I should be quarantining & testing for covid because headache & fatigue are possible symptoms. Hmm). Happy belated birthdays to those who have them. Well done, DWP for making that phone call. And Tabby I hope your daughter is going to be ok.
