We had rebooked some rooms from last year. I'm resigned to no holiday now.

UK will be fully booked and too expensive for probable bad weather in self catering accomodation.

I reckon garden improvements is the business to be in.

LetItGoGo · 10/02/2021 11:06

As for ten year jail term.

It reminds me of the guys who got done for not reporting treasure. What a legal system.

ArseInTheCoOpWindow · 10/02/2021 11:12

Garden improvements... yeah😁

As for ten year jail term.

Meanwhile, peados are given significantly less than that in many cases...

OnlyFoolsnMothers · 10/02/2021 11:22

Fucking gutted, as for saga advertising for older vaccinated people to book their holidays- two fingers up to the rest of us!

LetItGoGo · 10/02/2021 11:26

Noone will be allowed holidays by the sounds of it.

EileenGC · 10/02/2021 11:27

I don’t even want a holiday. I want to hug my mum who lives a 3h flight away. I want to go see my best friend, whose parents are ill and haven’t been able to see each other in months. Most of this involves travel into the UK which the country I’m currently living in has banned indefinitely... I just want to go home for a couple of weeks...

tellmewhentheLangshiplandscoz · 10/02/2021 11:27

I'm with you OP, I would sell a kidney right now for a week in a sunny alternate universe where Covid doesn't exist.

I was wasting my life watching crap YouTube videos tutorials last night (sad I know, but actually I found it quite soothing ... the one of a kitten having a spa day was cute at first but then creepy when DD and I couldn't quite tell if it was real. Or dead Confused) and it was weird hearing Rosie Huntington Whitely taking about being at home, not travelling etc. Obviously she's loaded with a nice house and a hot hubby yada yada so lockdown for her is very different to you or I but it was one of those moments when it hits you that this is such a huge shared experience with every person on earth.

Our grandkids will write and talk about this is school one day.

Anyway ... virtual Pina Colada anyone? Grin

BIWI · 10/02/2021 11:28

I just want to go to the pub!

AllMyPrettyOnes · 10/02/2021 11:31
Sad
Babyroobs · 10/02/2021 11:33

Gutted. We have a week in Cornwall booked and have only paid a minimal deposit but was so looking forward just to a change of scene.

AmySosa · 10/02/2021 11:36

We’ve got a week in Spain booked, moved from last year, originally booked nearly a year before that.

I’ve no idea what to do. Currently can’t move it or cancel without losing a lot of money. And I’m not sure they will let me cancel for free if we are technically allowed to go, technically meaning £70+ each (x5) for private tests either way and then potential quarantine either side.

mumto2teenagers · 10/02/2021 11:38

We were due to go to Egypt Nov 2020, when it was cancelled we changed it for a holiday to Spain in September, at the time we were pretty sure it would go ahead but now not so sure.

I currently spend far too much time planning holidays we will not be able to go on.

That’s a hard one. Can you only move it forward the one time?

It won’t mean U.K. based will it?
OpenShop · 10/02/2021 11:44

@MarshaBradyo

I really really hope not!!!

userxx · 10/02/2021 11:44

I've booked a cheap 3 night break in spain, paid half already with the balance due in May. Do I pay the balance or not bother and lose what has been paid so far? I booked last August when things didnt look so bleak.

minipie · 10/02/2021 11:47

I can see that holidays abroad may be banned or require expensive tests/isolation.

I cannot see why there would be UK travel restrictions though. By summer virtually all adults should have been vaccinated no? I know there could still be variants (though hopefully less chance if borders are controlled and cases here are way down) but so far it seems vaccines do protect from serious illness even with variants.

YouWantToDoWhatInAPyrexDish · 10/02/2021 11:50

We’ve got a week in a caravan last week of March booked - UK. Can’t imagine at all it being allowed - and rightly so given it’s only a few weeks away (I’d like to think summer uk holidays might be ok). Have only paid deposit but balance due 1st March - holiday park still saying it’s going ahead until they hear otherwise so balance should still be paid. If holiday is then cancelled they will refund but I’m loathe to pay the balance and hope it’s returned in a timely manner when there is absolutely no chance of it going ahead.

Resigned to not pay the balance and lose the deposit. How long in advance do the government make an official announcement?

AllMyPrettyOnes · 10/02/2021 11:51

I thought that, but the article says not to book UK ones either.

superking · 10/02/2021 11:52

I don't think holidays have been ruled out. Just that's it's impossible to say right now if they will be able to go ahead. It's more a warning against possible disappointment/ wasted money than anything else.

We have booked 3 nights camping in Cornwall for July as we're prepared to risk losing our money if it can't go ahead. I wouldn't be booking anything elaborate or expensive unless I had very comprehensive insurance/ guaranteed refund.

Sallycinnamum · 10/02/2021 11:53

Its shit, quite frankly.

We're lucky to some extent as we have a family holiday home in Spain so we can just roll our flights over but I was so looking forward to maybe getting away at some point this year.

I had a brief look at holidays in the UK but the prices are ridiculous. I'm not paying over £1k to stay in a holiday home where it'll probably piss it down for a week.

I think we're going to spend some money on our garden instead and use our camper van (reluctantly on my side as I bloody hate camping) for a few weekends away.

ArseInTheCoOpWindow · 10/02/2021 12:01

I’ve got a booking in Italy made in December 2019. It has been rolled toward to this year but.....

I’ve also booked a cottage in Bamber in August just in case.... looks like neither.

But I have had lots of holidays in Cornwall and rest of the U.K. in the past. I don’t get the ‘rain’. It’s never rained that much for me.

Oh right I didn’t read it, thanks.

I’m in two minds. We’ve not actually done a UK based one at all, we always go away.

But I’d like to get away see a coast line, but it will be rammed. And weather not a certain.

shinynewapple21 · 10/02/2021 12:05

@OnlyFoolsnMothers I wouldn't worry too much about the Saga add. Ryannair had similar abs had to take it down . There won't be a case where older people with vaccines can travel and younger people without can't, although likely that any travel when it's allowed will need negative tests .

We've got holiday abroad early June moved from last year , not expecting this to happen , but later in the year may be.

I really wouldn't take any notice of an article written in February about proposed UK travel this summer . They are reporting on what one ministers views are. All anyone can say is that at present there is no timeline for things to open . So in that respect it makes sense eg don't book for May, June things might not be open then . But given we were taking UK holidays last Summer when there was no vaccine there is no way, economically, that UK holidays will be out for the whole of the summer
