Boring, sorry, but what time do your DC go to bed?

DH and I can’t agree and are arguing. What time does your 11 year old go to bed on a school night? As in, what time is lights out?

10yo (Y6) goes up at 8.30pm with ipad. Ipad is relinquished when we go to bed at 9ish, he then puts audiobook on and is asleep by about 9.30.

Thatwentbadly · 08/02/2021 19:39

Mine are much younger, 4 and 1 and they go to sleep about 8. The nhs has a great info page on the average amount of sleep kids need.

Findahouse21 · 08/02/2021 19:42

What time do they need to get up in the morning? And y6 or y7?

Nutrigrainygoodness · 08/02/2021 19:42

In normal non covid times dd (11) lights out at 9.30pm.
Now as long as she's up and dressed for 8 (we go for a walk at 8, before school work at 9.30am) I'm not too fussed. Its always quiet by 10pm.

MazDazzle · 08/02/2021 19:43

They don’t have any screens in their bedrooms, but once they are in bed they can read for as long as they like.

At 11, I’d aim for them to be in their bed by 9pm (would start getting them ready at 8:30pm) and then they’d read.

CeefBurry · 08/02/2021 19:43

My two are revolting round about now.
Ages six and ten.
They are unbearable.
To be fair, I have had enough too and they've been awake since six am.
Goodnight 😆

Whodofthunk · 08/02/2021 19:44

10 year old about 8.30pm-9pm here on a school night. Bit of flexibility atm seeing as he is not physically going out to school all day. Up at 7.30am

Sometimesonly · 08/02/2021 19:45

9.30 - 10 pm (Get up at 7.45)

Terminallysleepdeprived · 08/02/2021 19:46

Dd is 7 and is normally in bed for 730-8 depending on whether she has been at her dads.

My step kids age 11 were in bed for 830 lights put for 9 at our house although at their mums it was 1030-11.

2typesofjungle · 08/02/2021 19:46

Mine are 2 and 4 and in bed asleep by 7.15pm.

MindfulBitch · 08/02/2021 19:47

8 year old is up at nine and allowed to read for 30 mins.

It's probably too late but she does t need to get up till 9am. Zoom calls start at ten.

Captainj1 · 08/02/2021 19:50

My DS is 10 (year 5) and in normal times sleeps from 10 until 7 ish on school days. At the moment it’s more like 11-8.

My DD is 5 and she sleeps 10-8 ish at the moment too

Thepilotlightsgoneout · 08/02/2021 19:51

@Findahouse21

What time do they need to get up in the morning? And y6 or y7?
Year 7 and wakes up 7am which is fine for school etc.

My little one is only 3 so a bit of a different answer here, she goes to bed around 7:30-8pm and will wake around 8-8:30am so she gets 12-13 hours sleep :)

I'd say an 11 year old needs around 10 hours sleep. So 9pm seems like a reasonable time. All children are different though and can function off different amounts of sleep, I'm sure mine is still meant to take naps in the day but she cut those out at a year old 😭😂

NotWithMyShoes · 08/02/2021 19:52

11 year old bedtime is 8pm, read 30-40minutes. Wakes up around 6am.

Wishitsnows · 08/02/2021 19:56

If they aren't physically in school at the moment it could be much later.

Wishitsnows · 08/02/2021 19:57

Meant to say 12yo about 10 up just before 8 and in registration by 8:20.

MojoJojo71 · 08/02/2021 20:10

8yo DD’s bed time is 8, we read in bed and lights out at 9. Up at 6.45 for school.

Waxonwaxoff0 · 08/02/2021 20:12

Mine is 7 and a half, get ready for bed about 7.30 and he's ready to go to sleep at 8. Up between 6am/7am.

unchienandalusia · 08/02/2021 20:13

DS11 bed at 9 lights off 9.30'on a school night.

DD9 bed 8.30 lights off 9.

They aren't getting up until 8.15 at mo

Rollingfog · 08/02/2021 20:15

8.30 in bed but reads/audiobook is fine until 9/9.30, 11 year 7 and I wake him up at 7.30.

Itsjustaride8w737 · 08/02/2021 20:15

Dd is 12, year 7.

She goes to bed 10, up at 8

TheChosenTwo · 08/02/2021 20:19

Ds is 9, he goes up usually around 8:30 which is then no tech time if he’s using it, I tuck him in between 9-9:30.
He gets up at 7:30 (I wake him) and we go to school at 8:30.
I sent him up to get dressed at about 8:10 this evening as he just won’t stop talking and it was getting on my nerves Grin

thesugarbumfairy · 08/02/2021 20:19

He has a bath/shower around 7.30
Then its chilling time reading a book or playing in his room with his dolls
Lights out is 9.15pm

Until recently he rose at 6.30 every morning, but he's now on 7.30am

He doesn't start 'school' till 9.30am at the moment when they have a live lesson.
