I'm in 'discussion' with mine. 😁 So I thought I'd canvas opinion.

Anyone?

At 8 mine went to bed at 7.30
At 10 it was 8pm

TwoZeroTwoZero · 07/02/2021 22:11

8 y old goes to bed at 8.30. 9, nearly 10 y old goes at 9. They're allowed 30 mins reading time before lights out (1hr on non-school nights).

nimbuscloud · 07/02/2021 22:12

They needed 11/12 hours sleep

Spends what time they have to be awake in the morning really.
Lights out at 8:30pm on school nights and 9pm at weekends. Bedtime is half an hour earlier the next time if they mucked about going to sleep. The most they lost was an hour.

WhatTheySaid · 07/02/2021 22:13

My just turned 10 year old goes to bed at 8:30 on a school night but usually reads in bed for a while before actually going to sleep. Friday/saturday nights usually around 9:30/10ish

YesIDoLoveCrisps · 07/02/2021 22:13

Pre lockdown 8ish. During lockdown 10.30 🙄

caringcarer · 07/02/2021 22:14

14 year old goes to bed at 9pm on school night and 9.30pm on weekends but in summer when he plays in mid week cricket matches often 10.15pm.

Mixitupalot · 07/02/2021 22:15

7:30/8 for both of them. We’re up early & they get grumpy if ts any later.

Love51 · 07/02/2021 22:16

I think, from memory a 10 year old needs 9.5 hours sleep, an 8 year old needs 10. So start with what time they need to get up and work backwards. If they struggle to get up, send them to bed earlier and if they struggle to sleep, send them to bed later. If they struggle with both change the night time routine to make sure they are relaxed before bed!

mootymoo · 07/02/2021 22:17

Mine went to bed 8ish, read to them a chapter or two and lights out at 8.30

Pascha · 07/02/2021 22:17

My 8 and 10yo currently go upstairs together to wash and change at 7.30pm.
They both get a story then Ds2 can read til 8.30 and ds1 gets til 9pm.

Snowsnowglorioussnow · 07/02/2021 22:17

Omg I could never get mine to bed that early. Officially its always 8 but reality esp over lock down haz been later I'm really trying to get 8 year old to bed asleep for 10 it's usually 11 even waking her at 7!!

TitsOot4Xmas · 07/02/2021 22:19

10 year old just going now. On a normal school night would be 9:30pm I guess.

Smartiepants79 · 07/02/2021 22:20

Around 8:30 lights out.

Ltdannygreen · 07/02/2021 22:21

Dd 8 goes to bed 8 on a school night and 10 at weekend
DS 13 goes 9.30 on a school night and 10 at weekend. Yes I know that dd gets 2 hours extra at the weekend but that’s because DS has asd and routine is key so that’s what time he goes to bed. And another her reason is. On the weekend I want a lie in

Impatientwino · 07/02/2021 22:22

My 8.5 year old goes to bed around 8.30. More relaxed on the weekend maybe 9.30 but he does not sleep in! Whatever time he goes to bed he's awake between 6.45 and 7.15!

I keep telling him if he slept in then I'd let him stay up more but he just doesn't!

starbrightstarlight8888 · 07/02/2021 22:26

Ds 11 goes to bed around 10pm.

IndecentFeminist · 07/02/2021 22:27

Ah good, thanks all. At present they are kind of treated the same as each other... weeknights we head upstairs between 730 and 745 and read together and they go to bed bed at about 830. They can read in bed until about 845 ish.

Weekends they tend to stay up until about 9/930 to watch a film or play a game with us after toddler goes to bed.

I ask because my DD (10) is channelling her inner teenager and telling me that it is ridiculous a child her age has to go to bed at that time, I mean, she'll be starting high school in September in case I'd forgotten. Plus some head wobbling. 😂

I have also pointed out that if she wanted to sleep in, ever, past 0630-0700 I might be more lenient.

9 year old- 8.30
12 year old 9.30-/10

NuzzleandScratch · 07/02/2021 22:31

Gosh, my 8 and 10 year old will never go to sleep as early as some on here! They currently get up about 8am, so I try to make sure they're settled by 10pm, but they go upstairs well before that, as they like to play. Older one has always been nocturnal though! At weekends, they will easily still be awake at midnight (usually watch a film together in one of their rooms). They've never woken up early in the mornings though, even as babies it wasn't stupidly early, so I'll take that!

Crikey at 10 and 13 are they not capable of sorting themselves out in the morning on a weekend for you to get a lie in? Even my 7.5 and almost 5 year olds can go downstairs and watch TV whilst I grab an extra hour🙄
BeautifulSofa · 07/02/2021 22:31

My 9yo is sent upstairs / chivvied into teeth brushing etc at the same time as her younger siblings (6 and 3) so 7.30ish, but she and 6yo play til 9ish then head to bed. 6yo goes to sleep and 9yo reads til prob 10.30. Everyone awakes at 8ish atm.

ginandwineandbaileys · 07/02/2021 22:33

My just turned 11 year old is going to bed at 9, pre lockdown was 8pm. Going to bed at 9 allows a bit of chatter, and messing around time as a family, a bit of tv together. It's a nice end to the day, especially now.

Gubanc · 07/02/2021 22:33

9 year old at 8 and drops off straight away, 11 year old hasn't been able to fall asleep before 10 for about 2 years now. He reads upstairs from about 8.

JudesBiggestFan · 07/02/2021 22:37

I do think UK kids go to bed freakishly early! It's 9.30 for my 9 year old, 10/10.30 for my nearly 12 year old. The younger gets up at 7.30, the oldest at 6.30...they'll often have a lie-in at the weekend. My three year old goes up at 8 for stories, lights out at 8.30. They all seem happy and healthy!
