What colour furniture would you have if your walls were dark blue?

Well at the minute the walls are a fetching shade of damp but I'm thinking they will be dark blue - F & B Hague Blue. The floor is currently stripped wood but needs redoing. I have a large set of dark wood drapers drawers in the room and nothing else!

What colour sofa would you go for?

white, cool toned grey, or a cool toned wood like walnut

PersonaNonGarter · 07/02/2021 16:29

Gold/Ochre/yellows.

Dark blue is cold and gloomy without lots of warm light.

dogmandu · 07/02/2021 16:31

light coffee colour to calm me down a bit.

One of those deep tan chesterfield types.

BrandyTrap · 07/02/2021 16:40

Thanks for the suggestions.

It's a very light room so I think I'll be ok with dark walls. I like the idea of a white or light sofa but I don't think I'm brave enough - 4 dc, a dog and a cat!

We have a very light silvery/biscuit sofa.

LittleMissNoSoPlump · 07/02/2021 17:19

We’ve got F&B Stiff Key blue in our living room and we love it. We’ve got a g plan mid century unit and a dark grey sofa and dark blue navy curtains - although I would have replaced the sofa if I could have afforded to!

DaenarysStormborn · 07/02/2021 17:24

We have Sapphire Salute. We were going to go with gold curtains but couldn't find anything.

Ended up with light pink/silver velvet curtains, grey sofa, wooden coffee table etc to match the wooden floor.

I would suggest you choose the blue wall carefully. We went with just the chimney breast and everything else white and that combo works well. If we had done more than that, I think the room would feel dark.

We have little greene hicks blue on one wall with light french grey on the other walls, we have a dark blue sofa because it’s on the grey walls but if it was the entire room blue I’d go for light coloured furniture, or you run the risk of the room feeling cave like and dark!

Orangesarenottheonlyfruit · 07/02/2021 17:28

We have hague blue walls in our north face sitting room.
It is very cosy and warm and responds well to rich red, yellow and deep green.
We have a red sofa and it looks fab. Woodwork is hague white and other furniture is mahogany.

Orangesarenottheonlyfruit · 07/02/2021 17:28

I mean woodwork is Wimborne white

goldielockdown2 · 07/02/2021 19:05

Mustard

BrandyTrap · 07/02/2021 19:21

Oh thanks for the further suggestions. I'm toying with the idea of white woodwork.

@IamChipmunk your sofa sounds fab - would you be willing to post a pic? Or a pic of something similar?

And your curtains sound lovely too @DaenarysStormborn.

Something inky. Grey, indigo, forest green. Or a brown antique leather would work.

IamChipmunk · 12/02/2021 20:08

Sorry. Saw this and didn't get chance to repond the sofa is from Next rhe colour is called Boucle weave silver I think.
Our paint is Johnstones Cavalry. We also have a mumsnet hated feature wall in slivery white and white curtains with silver thread running through.
White gloss furniture. Its not to everyone's taste but I think it looks amazing and love it! Its so calming and relaxing to sit in...

IamChipmunk's looks great with the blue. I think light grey would look nice as well.

sweetkitty · 13/02/2021 15:41

Oh timely thread. I am utterly fed up with our living room and have decided to go for a navy blue feature wall. Can’t have wall paper as one of the cats has stretched all the existing wall paper. We currently have a light oak coffee table and cabinet thing but could be persuaded to get rid. Have a white fireplace but am definitely getting rid of it (it’s a modern type and looks dated) floor is oak coloured but thinking of changing it to light grey. Other 3 walls will be a very park grey and I’m thinking pale grey sofas. Large window and lots of light so I think a dark navy wall will be ok we used to have a chocolate brown wall and it was fine.

I just want a complete change think I’m fed up looking at it since lockdown.

Maireas · 13/02/2021 15:45

A pale sofa with 4 kids and a dog?!
Get a navy one to match the walls.
Or spend your life cleaning it!

SantaMonicaPier · 13/02/2021 15:48

I'm feeling brave and looking at mustard and green sofas at the moment. Feeling really bored with neutrals

SylviaPlath1984 · 13/02/2021 15:52

Deep tan leather or natural oak

sweetkitty · 14/02/2021 23:28

I had navy sofas and you saw every little mark on them. I have a ginger dog too and although she doesn’t shed much ginger and navy Confused
