What colour furniture would you have if your walls were dark blue?

Well at the minute the walls are a fetching shade of damp but I'm thinking they will be dark blue - F & B Hague Blue. The floor is currently stripped wood but needs redoing. I have a large set of dark wood drapers drawers in the room and nothing else!

What colour sofa would you go for?

Mustard. I saw a beautiful mustard sofa this evening while driving past a showroom. It had a contrasting dark blue armchair.

Gold, yellow or deep green

I went for grey and regretted it. Wish I'd gone tan leather or even an orange.

Mustard!

(In one of the ‘clever cotton’ or family friendly velvets so if anyone ever spills coffee/red wine on it it’s wipe clean! I’d go for Loaf, Lounge Co or sofa.com if DH wasn’t so bloody resistant to the idea!)

We have Hague blue walls in our sitting room and a pale/mid-grey sofa that works really well. We also have 4 kids and a dog, but the grey is very forgiving (and we had the stain protector treatment for the sofa). We have lots of light and dark turquoise and gold cushions, lights and accessories. The gold adds warmth and reflects light, it is set off really well by the dark blue.

Even before you mentioned 4dc plus pets, I was thinking I'd do it the other way round. Go for a forgiving colour of sofa / chairs / suite, and then worry about the wall colour to match them.

I think what you are talking about starting with sounds very dark, which suggests you need something very light to help lift the room, but the settee is not a thing that is going to last long in a cream or beige or pale or pastel colour.

Plus, people would generally repaint or paper walls more often than replace furniture, so cheaper better to get that part right, first.

Orange or teal sofa would look fab, maybe get one with removable covers so it's not too expensive if you want something different further down the line.

We have navy walls - all 4 walls although 1 wall is large bay window and we have white built in cabinetry on both sides of fireplace. All woodwork white and above picture rail & ceiling white. Wooden floor.

We have a yellow velvet sofa. I was so undecided - I always go for the 'safe' options of beige / grey / natural colours but this time went bold. I absolutely love it (still).

A colourful velvet mid century style couches would look great. We painted the front room Hague Blue and got a pink velvet couch from Made and a Ladderax unit. It’s my favourite room/ thing in the world. Admittedly we don’t have kids though.

Orange and blue combo is very dated.

crapbuttrue · 15/02/2021 08:16

@Poorlykitten try telling that to the colour wheel 😂

Poorlykitten · 15/02/2021 08:18

It was used too much in 80’s tapas bars! 😂

jelly79 · 15/02/2021 08:32

Sapphire salute on the walls, silver carpet, navy couches and blush pink cushions / accessories

Poorlykitten · 15/02/2021 08:54

Silver carpets sound like something a family of kids and a dog might destroy quite easily!

CorpusCallosum · 15/02/2021 11:24

We have F&B drawing room blue, wood and gold tones just shine so beautifully next to it. We have a brown leather sofa and chair, and a grey textile chesterfield style sofa. It's my favourite room in the house 😍

For Hague Blue I love the light grey with pops of yellow that come up when you Google it 💙💛🤍
