...I forgot to get it from my front gate.

can I still use it? will it put any colour on? will it pull my hair out?

all help from hairdressers appreciated....

It shouldn’t be already mixed in the first place, so it should be absolutely fine. If your hairdresser mixed it for you then no. (And they shouldn’t have, it needs to go on right away)

ImsorryWilson · 05/02/2021 19:06

ah it was already mixed, I think last time she'd said use in in twenty minutes or so.

blast!

out of curiosity what would happen?

(and thank you)

It just won't take as well... colour stops developing of its own accord after a while. Unlike bleach which will continue to destroy your hair until you take it off!
Susanthepig · 05/02/2021 19:08

It probably wouldn’t take to your hair as it has a development time.

How annoying!

ImsorryWilson · 05/02/2021 19:09

so it would bleach it? that's not good.

I'm fairly desperate as have inch long roots.... had to cancel last appt before lockdown as had a cough.

According to hairdresser to the stars Michael Douglas you have about 35 minutes before it stops being active. I had no idea!

inquietant · 05/02/2021 19:16

In no way meant to be snippy but genuinely how did you forget? I'm like a cat watching a fish tank when waiting for deliveries!

ImsorryWilson · 05/02/2021 19:20

hairdress texted to say she happened to be visiting the closed salon. I said "yes please!" but I was in between work meetings and clear forgot.

Blast and bother I'm so grey!

she's also said I shouldn't use shop-bought colours during lockdown because "they interact with our professional colours".
I look pretty awful.

Is that really true though? They can't be that different surely?

inquietant · 05/02/2021 19:29

I'm a bit Hmm at that. I have no knowledge but she does have a vested interest so I'd do a bit of research...

Same4Walls · 05/02/2021 19:31

I'm no expert but surely she has a vested interest in you not using shop brought products so she's bound to say this.

ImsorryWilson · 05/02/2021 19:36

yes I'm not sure if any hairdressers will enlighten us!

fair play to her not to want to give away the trade secrets - I don't mind as such.

OP posts:
S111n20 · 05/02/2021 19:47

I wouldn’t use it. I always thought they had to be used within the hour.

CrocodilesCry · 05/02/2021 19:47

It'll be so long probably until you get another appointment I'd probably risk a box colour. What colour are you after?
It's a bit baffling that your hairdresser would leave the colour ready mixed on your gate - there's really no need, if you're capable of putting it on your roots yourself, you're more than capable of mixing the colour and developer!

wowfudge · 05/02/2021 19:50

I'd say the hairdresser doesn't want her to know the products and quantities. Mind you they have huge bottles of developers of different strengths they mix with the colours.

TheCanyon · 05/02/2021 19:57

Of course she will. But even my hairdresser, who is a friend has said to chuck on a box due if I'm really desperate and she hasn't got a ready supply of my colour.

Though I've just bleach bathed my hair and box dyed it. My friend will love me Grin

VodkaSlimline · 05/02/2021 19:58

I'd just whack it on and see what happens. If you're in the UK, it's not like you'll be seeing people or going anywhere for at least a few more weeks, and anyway it's still cold enough for hats!

ImsorryWilson · 05/02/2021 20:13

Famous last words!

“I'd just whack it on and see what happens. If you're in the UK, it's not like you'll be seeing people or going anywhere for at least a few more weeks, and anyway it's still cold enough for hats!”

If I do that they’ll lift the lockdown in 10 days.....

Unless you have to go to work. Grin

I would just go and buy a box dye.

BrilliantBetty · 05/02/2021 20:24

Can you just message her and let her know you forgot, ask if it's still usable. Or if there's any chance she's passing again

Chanandlerbong01 · 05/02/2021 20:53

I would avoid shop bought. My cousin does my hair for free (I just pay cost price for dye) and she always says to wait and let her do it because it will have an impact. So as she has nothing to lose by me doing myself it makes me believe it.

Sparklingbrook · 05/02/2021 21:21

Michael Douglas (Hairdresser to the stars) says the ingredients in a Clairol Nice N Easy are the same as in a salon the only difference being it's a bit more runny. And if you have colour done in a salon the hairdresser is better at applying it than when you do it yourself. Roots need longer than the ends etc.

I have spent lockdown watching his Hair Talks on Instagram and it is fascinating. Grin

ImsorryWilson · 05/02/2021 21:22

Right, clairol it is!

RogueV · 05/02/2021 21:25

Bollocks to the don’t use the shop bought dye. That’s all I use my hair is fine. Costs me £11 for 2 boxes
