There is some awful behaviour on here.

It breaks down badly at 4 minutes.

@Indecisivelurcher

And this ladies and gents, is how planning decisions are made...
Not correct, the video is of a Parish Council and planning is done at Local Authority level with elected ward councillors.

Parish Councils make representations to Planning Committee as a statutory consultee. They influence through things like Village Design Statements but have no direct say.

Thank you for posting, I enjoyed this enormously, brought back memories Grin

whattimeisitmrswolf · 05/02/2021 07:39

I'm a clerk/proper officer and this has been discussed in detail on our forum. Thank goodness my Councillors are pretty awesome in comparison.

Jackie works for the association of local councils.... they suspended the Clerk at a previous meeting. Needless to say they are advertising the vacancy if anyone fancies the challenge Wink

Toocold · 05/02/2021 07:43

Proper officer is the clerk ( pronounced erk) they are often qualified and advice legally and if also the RFO then they are responsible for the finances, it’s basically like a civil servant job but for the local council, ultimately the parish council make decisions ( in theory!) as a team but the clerk oversees they are sticking to rules and laws. Whilst the parish council have a say in planning, it is only the same level as a member of the public, ultimately that is decided by the local authority and they will be well versed in parish councils!

AViewFromTheWindows · 05/02/2021 07:44

I like that someone was in complained about for not atrending meetings, despite no meetings being held!

Toocold · 05/02/2021 07:44

Whattimeisitmrswolf... it is a bonkers job sometimes isn’t it!

Horsemad · 05/02/2021 07:48

🤣 that's made me LOL!!

Wackadoo · 05/02/2021 07:50

I don't think the first 5 minutes were funny at all. That vice chair in particular was a nasty piece of work

PowerhouseOfTheCell · 05/02/2021 07:55

Shout out to Sue, just there for the banter and a good time!

thecatfromjapan · 05/02/2021 07:56

Wackadoo Yes. I suspect a lot of us (females) have been on the receiving end of behaviour like that.
And on video it just looks exactly like what it is

wowfudge · 05/02/2021 07:57

Clerk is pronounced clark, never clerk. The clerk is to the parish council as a company secretary is to the board of a plc. The chair was a disgrace. Some people fundamentally, or wilfully, misunderstand what they are there to do and the standards of behaviour expected of them.

SushiGo · 05/02/2021 07:57

I only made it through watching half. If this wasn't mid-pandemic, Jackie could have been alone in a room with that lot.

She's clearly awesome, but that's not a good position.

TheRuleofStix · 05/02/2021 08:01

I’ve been on a PC and it’s every bit as bad as that sadly Sad.

Horsemad · 05/02/2021 08:01

I think it's hilarious how those officious buffoons have shown their true colours and it's out there on the internet for all to see! 😂 They are a disgrace.

Well done to those ladies for handling it as they did. It clearly shows who the responsible people are.

Eve · 05/02/2021 08:04

I hope the good people of Handforth demand they all resign and elect some competent replacements!

Bluntness100 · 05/02/2021 08:04

Honestly I also thought, whilst amusing, it was appalling,

Jackie weaver should have tried to resolve it not just be kicking people out, but ultimately she behaved better than most.
That bloke on Aleds iPad was horribly, horribly aggressive and abusive
There was sexism and bullying to Jackie weaver and the other woman.

Honestly the lot of them should be ashamed, thr men behaved terribly. Disruptive, bullying, sexist, the men should all be removed from their posts immediately if not already done so, with

chomalungma · 05/02/2021 08:05

You can't imagine what this would have been like if it had been held in person. At least with Zoom, you can put people in waiting rooms and mute them - if you are the person who started the meeting.

Awful behaviour from some.

OP posts:
nursejekyll · 05/02/2021 08:08

Bluntness - presumably there is an agreed code of conduct and the abusive men were kicked out because they breached that. Why should anyone have to try to ‘resolve’ being screamed at in a professional meeting?

peak2021 · 05/02/2021 08:09

Not a surprise sadly for a parish council, but unacceptable conduct nevertheless.

Judashascomeintosomemoney · 05/02/2021 08:11

It broke down at Fuck Off tbh. ‘You have no authority here’ , like something out of Royston Vasey. I, for one, will do as she asked and refer only to Britney Spears from now on.

Bluntness100 · 05/02/2021 08:12

It’s just been on the bbc news, they said it was very funny, I didn’t think it was remotely funny I thought it was appalling behaviour. And that bloke hissing who said he was the vice chair has something seriously wrong with him.

Judashascomeintosomemoney · 05/02/2021 08:12

(also, the fact I’ve just sat and watched 18 mins of the Handforth parish council meeting is a clear sign that lockdown has gone on too long)

Eve · 05/02/2021 08:15

There is a letter from monitoring officer on their website about poor behaviour complaints - guess a problem has been going on for some time.

ChardonnaysPetDragon · 05/02/2021 08:16

Funnily enough they never made the subsequent meetings available.

Figgygal · 05/02/2021 08:16

That wasn’t funny at all
Uncomfortable and ridiculous behaviour from a load of bullies
Good help the people of that council

Must be a slow news day

Swiftjogger · 05/02/2021 08:19

Jackie did the right thing, there is no resolving with thick bullies like that, it’s clearly been going on for a long time.

It wouldn’t surprise me if the man on Aled’s screen has history for violence.
