There is some awful behaviour on here.

It breaks down badly at 4 minutes.

The Alan Partridge-ness of it all! Amazing.

Swiftjogger · 05/02/2021 11:42

Jackie Weaver is chair of governance and was brought in just this meeting (I think)

enjoyingscience · 05/02/2021 11:43

It makes me so cross that these men feel able to act like this in public life. It’s all about their own tiny slice of power and nothing at all do with serving their community. I hope they all resign and let sensible people take their places.

It’s a great example of why I’d never in a million years join the parish council - ours is full of people who think their sole job is to deter new comers from entering the village.

'We're trying to have a teams meeting you fool!'

😂

SabrinaMorningstar · 05/02/2021 11:46

Having been on local committees, this seemed so familiar. It did make me laugh because their behaviour is so obviously appalling but the women just carry on. That type of bullying behaviour is not uncommon and I can guarantee that they try to gaslight everyone into thinking that behaviour is acceptable. But Zoom does not lie and now everyone has seen how abusive and bullying they can be.
I'm sure it's not news to their families.

HowQuicklyTwoAndTwenty890 · 05/02/2021 11:47

I liked the very polite and unassuming Cyn when asked if the others should be let back in if they behaved saying 'No I object to that' (paraphrase).

LemmysAceCard · 05/02/2021 11:49

@TitleOfYourSexTape

That is the greatest thing I have ever seen.

"This is a great example of bullying within Cheshire East. And its environs"

👏👏😂😂😂

Cheshire East Council has been in trouble before for bullying and even had a police investigation, this doesnt surprise me in the slightest.

How I would love Aardman Animations to make a film of this Grin

Etinox · 05/02/2021 11:50

@snowballer

This made me weep with laughter earlier! Kudos to Jackie for holding her own surrounded by vile men. I think they discuss the fact it's being recorded and agree to publish it with the minutes towards the end?
Yes, without being too poe faced it really is a shocking example of toxic masculinity. Isn’t it?! #TeamJackieWeaver
LalalalalalaLand123 · 05/02/2021 11:53

It's like a Ricky Gervais comedy - it's got everything!
"Ian you're on mute!"

Alansbiggestfan · 05/02/2021 11:56

I work as a Parish Clerk and this was shared by a councillor this morning. The Chair's take on it was that Jackie Weaver was in the wrong and should be sacked. Hmm No comment of the behavior of any of the others...

Egghead68 · 05/02/2021 11:56

Looks like men hanging up against a woman.

AnyOldPrion · 05/02/2021 11:57

The frightening thought is that some day soon lockdown will end and face to face meetings will restart, and then you can't mute men like this.

This. It crossed my mind that power was evened up by the technology, but only because Jackie was in charge of the meeting. I am torn between finding it funny on the surface because Jackie did have the power here, but ultimately horrifying.

Also, though the follow-up meeting was boring, it was almost entirely taken up by attempts to cancel everything that had happened in the preceding months, which was waved through by some men who obviously backed the “chair” in everything. No idea how you could ever control the situation. Horrible.

Egghead68 · 05/02/2021 11:58

Ganging

That's concerning. It sounds like your Chair needs some additional training on protocols and bullying. I hope others challenged their view.
wintermoths · 05/02/2021 11:59

@napody

Ugh, the Women's Hour opener making it just about the stress of lockdown for everyone. Such a great opportunity to turn the Karen stereotype on its head and show that women have to learn to take no shits, because men like this just take up SO much bloody space. Come on Jackie.... looking forward to hearing what you have to say.
Really? the BBC radio 4 news yesterday also attributed the rise in DIV to 'tension in the home' during lockdown. Not that violent men have a trapped victim and more time to hit her, then? Amazing that the rest of us have managed the lockdown 'tensions' without whacking someone weaker than us.

Oh dear oh dear. They should look up who Jackie is. Your own CALC CEO might have an opinion ;-)

@Blakes77 - I was thinking the same!

Accidental partridge would have a field day there!

Love it!

AdoraBell · 05/02/2021 12:04

DH had lots of Zoom calls. Never had anyone as aggressive as the man screaming at Jackie.

BrandyTrap · 05/02/2021 12:04

Jackie for pm.

BeautifulStar · 05/02/2021 12:05

I think my favourite bit though, just summing up the utter futility, was this

‘One member has not been to any council meetings in the past six months - the fact that there were no meetings is irrelevant’

Mine too!

Spudlet · 05/02/2021 12:06

Blimey, that standing orders shouting bloke was horrible! I skipped through it, but I think Jackie at one point said she was glad it was a zoom meeting... imagine that in person. Not an amusing thought at all.

That’s the kind of man who tailgates you all the way home because you dared to overtake him. Headlights on full beam (of course). Or starts screaming at you in the street for some other minuscule slight. The kind of man who cuts you up for a parking space or shoves in front of you in the queue. What a vile individual.

Miljea · 05/02/2021 12:12

@Chloemol

Can I just put a note of caution on here. There is a much bigger back story here, this was the culmination of a number of events

Sadly this sort of behaviour is rife in this sector, and there are little to no sanctions available so the bullies get away with the behaviour time and time again

Do tell us!
