Elmlea. I was convinced it was posh cream because my quite posh gran used it. I now know it’s just whipped vegetable fat 🤢

Totaldick · 03/02/2021 19:01

2nd 3 bathrooms! Its just a bollock ache to keep clean 🙄

LadyCatStark · 03/02/2021 19:02

As a child: After Eight Mints, Vienetta, Viscount biscuits, Ferrero Rocher, Lambrusco (my Grandma drank it and it looked posh OK?), Baby Cham and Advocaat.

Now: Booths

Alwaystired4 · 03/02/2021 19:02

Nibbles...SUCH FUN!!!

RoSEbuds6 · 03/02/2021 19:02

carrots cut into sticks - my mum cut ours into slices
serving dishes on the table and serve yourself - we had all our food handed to us on plates.
lamps - we only ever had the central pendant light so lamps seemed decadent to me.

BeTheHokeyMan · 03/02/2021 19:03

Vienetta, romantica and ferrero rocher were the height of sophistication to me when I was young. Only ever seen at Christmas and my mother always commented on how expensive they were Hmm

Gastontehladybird · 03/02/2021 19:04

Having a doorbell!

Pixie2015 · 03/02/2021 19:05

Vol-au-vents and pot pourri (had to goggle spelling)

WhatsErFace2020 · 03/02/2021 19:06

Shopping at Sainsbury’s (or anywhere that wasnt Netto 🤣) I was Beyond mortified that we had Netto bags and food with the sign on the back!
At school we all used to sing a song about tramps shopping at Netto - all our parents did but you couldn’t admit it...so funny now that the same stigma doesn’t apply to Aldi/Lidl.

Blackberrycream · 03/02/2021 19:08

Oh yes, mushroom vol au vents
We had them every Boxing Day at my aunty’s.

Lochroy · 03/02/2021 19:09

Going to the King's Road area of London... turns out most creatures there aren't aliens they are JUST people (and tourists).

Serena1977 · 03/02/2021 19:10

Lasagne.

When we did cooking at school, we were asked what our favourite meal was. I said Sunday roast (bernard Matthew's meat roll) and another said lasagne. I'd never heard of it, thought it sounded very exotic and I didnt even know how to pronounce it.

Servalan · 03/02/2021 19:10

Pizza Hut. My DF took my DM there for their 25th wedding anniversary (amazingly they're still together)

Nottheduchessofcambridge · 03/02/2021 19:10

When I was younger (mid 80s), for a birthday we always used to go to the beefeater for a special meal, starter of pâté, followed by steak and then profiteroles. 8yo me in shoes with a heel and best dress used to think that was the height of poshness!

Colour telly

prawncocktailpringles · 03/02/2021 19:12

@hangaround

Having a packed lunch at school. All my friends had packed lunches, whereas I got free school meals so always had school dinners.

Also eating at a restaurant that wasn't McDonalds (or equivalent)
I was always flabbergasted when school friends said they had been out for a sit down meal with their family. That was SO posh to me.
My immediate family never went out for a sit down meal together until I graduated from University.

I remember feeling very posh going to Harvester with friends for my 15th Birthday Blush

Packed lunch definitely posh especially if in a box with matching thermos
Cheermonger · 03/02/2021 19:13

@frumpety yes! Especially aged 16 when pretending to be someone in a Duran Duran video 🤣

amusedbush · 03/02/2021 19:14

When I was about 10 I was at a friend’s house and when she offered me a drink, she handed over a full can of branded Coke. I was blown away!

My parents were skint and we only had sugar free squash or 2L bottles of Aldi sugar free pop.

Now I always have cans of Fanta Zero in the house (72 cans for £20, thank you Farmfoods Grin) and it still feels luxurious!

Hensintheskirting · 03/02/2021 19:14

When I was young, my brother claimed that some particular friends of my parents were really posh. We asked "why?"
"They have fancy nutcrackers" was his reason.

Lobsterquadrille2 · 03/02/2021 19:14

Having a house with a name, not just a number.

Itsjustaride8w737 · 03/02/2021 19:16

Having a dad growing up.

Sparkling water. Pesto. And Mr Kipling’s French Fancies - I used to beg my mum to get them but she said they were too expensive for what they were. She was right too but now I can buy them myself Grin

Ludo19 · 03/02/2021 19:16

En suites......till I got a house with two and a family bathroom and I'm definitely NOT posh!
