Hampton court palace flower show.

ThePluckOfTheCoward · 03/02/2021 18:27

Croissants, Prawn cocktail, rump steak and chips, Black Forest gateau, Mateus rose wine, Liebfraumilch wine, avacados, after eight mints,
en-suite bathrooms and stretch limos. 😂😂

Grenlei · 03/02/2021 18:27

My family are not from the UK, so we ate lots of foods when I was growing up in the 1980s that my friends considered posh - pasta, olives, French/ Italian cheeses, salami, butter not marg, etc Grin. To me it was always just normal. We also had Viennetta on a regular basis.

As a child I thought en suite bathrooms were posh (not so much now every newbuild house has them!) Ditto utility rooms - my auntie had an ensuite, utility, a sunken bath in her bathroom with steps into it, and a chandelier in her downstairs loo, I loved childhood visits to her house :)

MarieInternette · 03/02/2021 18:28

Pate
Duck a l’orange
Fizzy water
Doilies
Prawn Cocktail for starters

ImFree2doasiwant · 03/02/2021 18:28

Saying Scone like gone.

Littleroundsponge · 03/02/2021 18:29

Conservatories

PattyPan · 03/02/2021 18:30

Surprised to see people disagreeing with OP - we had three bathrooms growing up (downstairs WC, family bathroom and master ensuite) and weren't posh, just lived in a modern house.

I would say Hotel Chocolat and fountain pens.

skoobysnax · 03/02/2021 18:32

Eternal beau crockery

MyFavouriteIsWhoeverlsQuietest · 03/02/2021 18:32

britvic 55

Turnedouttoes · 03/02/2021 18:32

It’s funny that nowadays a lot of these are actually seen to be very common and tacky.
Going in a limo
Having the latest cars
Having a TV in the kitchen
Yankee Candles

SlopesOff · 03/02/2021 18:35

Smoked salmon

Smoked salmon is posh! Do an aibu poll. I'm very confident.*

Smoked salmon used to be thought of as posh many years ago, but now you can buy it anywhere, IKEA, Lidl, not just Harrods Food Hall so not posh at all.

hopeishere · 03/02/2021 18:35

Just Juice. They must have done an amazing marketing campaign as I remember my friends also going on about it. We begged our mums to get it for us!

LetItGoGo · 03/02/2021 18:35

Vienetta here too!

Gateaux at Christmas.

SlopesOff · 03/02/2021 18:36

@ThePluckOfTheCoward do you mean Black Tower Grin?
IntermittentParps · 03/02/2021 18:37

Yes, Viennetta. We only had it at Christmas.

I still think Black Forest gateau is posh and I'm 46. Well, posh or at leastr a massive treat.

ddl1 · 03/02/2021 18:37

Having a colour TV. It was a bit posh when I was a kid.

prowlingbrooms · 03/02/2021 18:38

Flashy polished cars with immaculate interiors abs complicated doors (the solid heavy think of a rolls is ok)

LaurieFairyCake · 03/02/2021 18:38

Having 'staff' (cleaner/housekeeper/gardener/nanny/driver)

Now I would only think having your own driver is posh

MyFavouriteIsWhoeverlsQuietest · 03/02/2021 18:38

honeydew melon

username44416 · 03/02/2021 18:38

Habitat and, even though it no longer is, I still see it as a bit posh and when I buy something from there make sure to tell people (who really don't care and aren't impressed).

That’s not three bathrooms, it’s two and a downstairs loo.
sansucre · 03/02/2021 18:39

Three bathrooms isn't a signifier of being posh, neither is smoked salmon. However, they both signal money/being rich.

As someone who grew up in a house with three bathrooms and a shower room, and ate smoked salmon every Sunday, I can say hand on heart we were not posh. But, my father had his own business and it made a lot of money. (Having money does not always equate being posh.)

Oh, and another thing. I'm Jewish too. Smoked salmon is a very common food for Jews regardless of their financial circumstances, and is really not a signifier of being posh at all.

Tal45 · 03/02/2021 18:39

Italian food.

Pugdoglife · 03/02/2021 18:40

Babycham, viscount biscuits, vienetta, cars with seat belts

dingit · 03/02/2021 18:40

@Squashpocket

Saying 'pardon'. Apparently properly posh people say 'what?'. Who knew.
My Dm is a bit deaf. When she can't hear family she says Aye? Anyone else it's Pardon?
