Why do people care so much the weight of others?

Thread after thread after thread on here...discussing weight.

Lots of...'genuine question..why can't people just lose weight when they know it worsens covid outcomes/increases the risk of poor health etc?'

My question is why do you care?

I never see the same strength of questioning directed to the myriad of others with self-inflicted illnesses.

Why are there not the same amount of threads asking why people can't stop smoking, stop drinking to excess, stop engaging in risky sexual behaviours etc...

If it's a matter of overweight people 'being a burden on the healthcare system', well all the above are as well!

But really, why do you care about someone else's weight? These threads run into several pages, and it's just people constantly saying that 'oh, obese people could lose weight if they wanted to, but they just keep trotting out excuses' or similar.

But why are you even on this thread hypothesising potential reasons and berating overweight people. Would you also go on thread where someone has asked why people keep smoking when they know it can cause lung cancer/COPD/ hypertension....and say 'oh, people can stop smoking if they want, they just choose not to'?

I'm just wondering why these weight threads provoke so many opinions from people.

Not RTFT. I only care about the weight of other people because of the cost to the tax payer/NHS.

Do I judge obese people silently? Definitely; there really is no excuse for being obese. If there’s an underlying reason, get help.

Do you judge smokers who get lung cancer the same way? Alcoholics who need liver transplants? People who have unprotected sexual intercourse and get pelvic inflammatory disease?

Steroids and certain drugs necessary to save peoples' lives, you know, that underlying reason, may be the reason why they are obese. People don't need an excuse or to justify themselves to judgemental gits. That twaddle about cost to the taxpayer or NHS is just that. What about people who live so long they get dementia and require many funds from the taxpayer?

There's no excuse for being judgemental.

Since this has been done to death, a better question might be why people are encouraged to criticise smokers and drinkers yet not the obese?

It's clear you haven't read the full thread, as this has been discussed before. Are most fat people not also taxpayers in your world? Why should I, a fat person who has been paying into the system for 25 years, not be able to use the NHS if I need to? I don't especially like the fact that my hard-earned taxes might be used to help a snide, judgemental person but hey, that's life. Thankfully, it works on the basis of need and not moral judgement.
