What could this vibrating sensation when I’m in bed be?

Soubriquet · 02/02/2021 08:08

And no its not that you dirty vipers Wink

Sometimes when I’m in bed half asleep, a vibrating sensation happens that jolts me awake.

It happened most of last night so I’m quite cheesed off that I didn’t get w good sleep.

No the tumble dryer wasn’t on
No the heating wasn’t on

Any ideas?

I get this- when it first started I thought the washing machine was on. Always middle of the night. It’s like a buzzing vibration in my head and body.
It is completely linked with stress with me . If I drink too much and am stressed ( those things go hand in hand often) then the buzzing will wake me up.

Signalbox · 02/02/2021 12:25

I woke up to a slug on my face once

OMG I'd never be able to sleep again! Grin

Scoleah · 02/02/2021 12:41

@JaimeLeeCurtains Shockomg I didn't even know this was a thing!
For about 4 years i keep telling my husband it sounds like a plane is going over in the distance, but it's persistent and doesn't get any louder or quieter, just a constant noise.
He thinks I'm nuts & ive thought he was deaf for not being able to hear it!
I'm so happy there's an explanation, thank you!

BigButtons · 02/02/2021 16:21

I am deffo in peri.
When it first started I would literally get up and try and find out where the vibrations were coming from in the house. I worked out I could only feel/hear them when i lay down and worked out they were in fact coming from me.

"And no its not that you dirty vipers".Smile.
Im saying nothing. WinkGrin

I often get sleep paralysis and this happens just before it happens!

mrsfindlay · 02/02/2021 16:59

Also, after I have it I always seem to be able to lucid dream. Its a bizarre sensation

Wolfiefan · 02/02/2021 17:06

Myoclonic jerks? Spelling? Used fo have an ex who would be falling asleep then suddenly jerk awake so suddenly he could shake the bed. Weird.

LaurieSchafferIsAllBitterNow · 02/02/2021 17:11

I get an odd flashbang sometimes, like someone has flashed the lights on and off just once right in my eyes, more rarely a boom feeling like something has popped.
This only happens when I am really over tired though and not every time. Also I wonder if it is connected to another thing I get when over tired which is feeling like I am spinning end over end ...that happens very frequently!

I did used to feel that I was fizzing/vibrating though before diagnosed with Hashimotos ( underactive thyroid ) ...my GP said it was the highest TSH she had ever seen and reckoned that it had probably packed up when pg or just after dd was born, and I wasn't diagnosed until ds2 was almost 2, so about four years!

CompleteBarstool · 02/02/2021 17:20

Can you narrow it down at all?

ie. Do you think it's something within you that's vibrating? As in actually part of your body(internal organs, limbs, muscle spasms etc)

Or is it definitely something "external" and nothing to do with your body?

Soubriquet · 05/02/2021 15:40

So i have a random update

It happened again last night only this time dh heard it! I’m not going crazy

Or maybe we both are as he said it sounded like drilling (which is what it felt like). He went next door to ask them about it to find no one was home..

Sound travels a long way through the ground.

Are you anywhere in the area of (and not necessarily close to) any underground works or transport, or overground works or factories that would work at night e.g. bakeries?

Soubriquet · 05/02/2021 15:48

Nope

We live in the arse end of nowhere

There's still agricultural activity at night in the middle of nowhere.

Or rogue fracking ...

JaimeLeeCurtains · 05/02/2021 15:57

And when I say agricultural activity I don't mean someone derangedly scything grass under a full moon, I mean something like routine maintenance at an agricultural plant or summat.

Howzaboutye · 05/02/2021 16:32

How far away are you from the coast?
If it is the hum- it is supposedly long shore drift or summat.

Miljea · 05/02/2021 16:54

Are there any railway lines nearby?

GreenSlide · 05/02/2021 16:56

Does it happen when the heating is on?
