On what bloody planet do you sub an item costing a pound with one costing 15 pounds. Is it me???

What was it?

ButtonMoonPie · 01/02/2021 22:04

Well at Tesco you wouldn't pay the difference so I'd be made up of this happened!

blueteatowel · 01/02/2021 22:05

A small can of pre mixed gin was ordered and given a pricey gin gift set instead.

Most supermarkets either charge you for the cheaper one or give you the opportunity to refuse the substitution so I don’t see the issue.

blueteatowel · 01/02/2021 22:06

Yep, I usually order from tesco. First and probably last time going elsewhere.

Thats a win, I would be doing a little happy dance in my kitchen.

smoothchange · 01/02/2021 22:07

Can you not opt out of substitutions?

blueteatowel · 01/02/2021 22:08

Charged for the expensive sub and driver didn't alert me of change. Receipt had been emailed to me but didn't see it in advance of the delivery.

They've told me I can return to store for refund so nice unnecessary trip.

It's actually one of my fave gins. I'm probably most pissed that I need to stop myself drinking it.

I never get charged more for a more expensive sub! That's really rubbish!

LibrariesGiveUsPower45321 · 01/02/2021 22:18

Was it Morrison’s? We’ve had that several times, and they charge you for the expensive item.

Letsgetbizzy · 01/02/2021 22:20

I'm cross that the tesco now always turns my shopping automatically to 'no subs' and I often forget to change it...

I've had some BRILLIANT subs at no extra charge!

TrimmedMyBush · 01/02/2021 22:20

I can usually request a refund for an item ordered and one option is ‘unsuitable substitution’.....log in and have a look.

Chunkymenrock · 01/02/2021 22:21

Tesco's policy is to charge the original price of the ordered item for any substitutions. I'd ring customer services and take it up with them.

Glenchase · 01/02/2021 22:24

I always reject all subs from Morrison’s for this exact reason. They regularly sub expensive items and charge you the higher price.

blueteatowel · 01/02/2021 22:31

This was sainsburys so everything already cost slightly more than Tesco. I will stop moaning soon but I too am used to the Tesco approach of not charging me extra for subs so this threw me a bit. I also cannot get me head around how they thought this was a suitable sub.

StillMissV · 01/02/2021 22:35

This is still a win in my eyes - yes you've paid more, but you get the difference as a voucher on your next shop. Not ideal if you don't usually shop with Sainsburys but I kinda like when this happens

nellienolan · 01/02/2021 22:35

Sainsbury's issue a credit for the differing price if the substitution is more expensive. I got one for £20 the other day.
nellienolan · 01/02/2021 22:36

*difference

WiseUpJanetWeiss · 01/02/2021 22:40

Sainsbury’s subs are often bizarre but they do refund the difference. They respond to Twitter DMs which is convenient.

DorothyCotton · 01/02/2021 22:41

I'll just leave this here....

saffire · 01/02/2021 22:44

You should get a voucher to use on your next shop - not ideal, as Asda charge the lower price!

Bobbiepin · 01/02/2021 22:45

At least you actually got gin! Once ordered baby formula and got bleach instead.

Babdoc · 01/02/2021 22:46

Sainsburys email me in advance about substitutions and ask me if I’d like to alter or cancel them. The delivery man then also confirms them on the doorstep and checks I’m still happy with them. It seems an excellent system.
Today they emailed 3 hours pre delivery to say they had no courgettes and were suggesting an aubergine - I changed that to green beans, and also accepted them swapping King Edward spuds for Maris Pipers. I was very impressed with the service.

blueteatowel · 01/02/2021 22:52

Sounds like some people have had positive sainsbury experiences which is good.

The baby formula/bleach combo shows me it could've been worse.

The substituted gin continues to wink at me.
