What’s Everyone Doing For Valentines Day?

We’re paring it right back this year as only have one income coming in. DH isn’t a big fan anyway as he thinks it’s basically a big money-making scheme. Having said that, I always get 2 dozen red roses & sometimes chocolates as well. I picked up a “ Couples Quiz” at Tesco’s for £2 & we already have steaks in the freezer so DH will cook them with chips, peas & breaded garlic mushrooms. We’ll exchange cards but no presents.

WE don’t do anything for Valentine’s Day and haven’t since we got married, will leave that to the teenagers and people in new relationships.

LucasLeesEyebrows · 01/02/2021 12:59

Erm... sod all. We’ve been married for 12 years and always get each other a card and maybe a bit of chocolate but I wouldn’t be at all bothered if we didn’t this year. I usually get DDs some little heart shaped chocolates.

Fivemoreminutes1 · 01/02/2021 13:00

We’re buying a DIY cocktail kit, the Hotel Chocolat large dipping kit and Codenames Duet game. The plan is to tire the dc out during the day so they go to bed early! Fingers crossed for good weather!

Probably go to Miller & Carter and then for a few drinks in town Smile

I usually get dh a card and some little token present, maybe cakes or treats or whatever. We’ll probably do a takeaway and he will bring me home wine / chocolates. We don’t usually make a fuss so nothing different about this year really! Grin

Are you in the Isle of Man? If not, how are you going to have a meal at Miller & Carter and ‘go for drinks in town’? Confused
Mydogisagentleman · 01/02/2021 13:05

Sweet Fanny Adams.
Been married for too long to be bothered

EternalOptimist7 · 01/02/2021 13:06

yvanka that could be tricky as we’re in lockdown

Nice to see a bit of humour. We thought we’d treat ourselves to dinner at The Ritz! Meanwhile, back in reality, we’ll have steak and chips at the kitchen table and give one another cards.
iklboo · 01/02/2021 13:09

We don't usually do anything but might get a takeaway this year from a fab place DH has picked up deliveries from. He said they look & smell amazing.

ShowOfHands · 01/02/2021 13:09

Nothing. It's been 22 years and we've managed thus far by entirely ignoring it.

DH buys flowers when he sees them and thinks of it and he makes an effort in our marriage every day. Making a fuss on the 14th would feel contrived to us.

Good luck to you though op. 2 dozen red roses must cost cost an absolute fortune, do you not consider them and chocolates a present?

Hotcuppatea · 01/02/2021 13:09

Its clearly a joke.

ParkheadParadise · 01/02/2021 13:11

Fuck All
Everyday is Valentines Day with my loving husband 💕 😉😂😂

@EternalOptimist7 I agree with your DHs opinion. Something to provide income for card makers, chocolateers and florists between Christmas and Mothering Sunday.

In Wales a different saint is the patron saint of lovers, so it was last Monday.

turkeyboots · 01/02/2021 13:14

We are going to have a family party. Everyone is getting a present and I'll make a cake. DC going to make paper roses for home school!
Got to find something nice to with ourselves.

When I read it back I realised it was a joke but I guess it’s too near the mark of what the average person would be doing for Valentines Day, for me to equate it as a joke immediately. If I was making a joke out of the situation I’d go down the ‘dinner at the Ritz’ route, as another poster has.
Turnedouttoes · 01/02/2021 13:39

Oh god here come the miseries who don’t like anything fun related. If you’re not interested in Valentine’s Day why comment Hmm

I think it’s nice to find things to celebrate this year as there’s nothing else to do.
I’ve ordered waffle plates for our toastie maker as DPs present and we’ll have waffles for breakfast. Then I’ve ordered from Pasta Evangelists for dinner and I want to try making some fancy chocolate covered strawberries I’ve seen on Pinterest. We also plan to each find a cocktail to make each other and then drink one of the many bottles of champagne we have left over from Christmas.

Keeping an eye on this thread for any other ideas. I like the idea of the couples quiz, will have a look when I’m next in Tesco

thismeansnothing · 01/02/2021 13:40

We don't do valentine's Day, bar for a card. It's our wedding anniversary 9 days before so save celebrations for that

peboh · 01/02/2021 13:41

We don't do anything, our dating anniversary was the 15th feb, then after getting married we just never bothered to pick up celebrating it.
Might order a takeaway just because why not, but then takeaways will be busy..so probably not

Lollyneenah · 01/02/2021 13:49

We're flying first class to Rome and will have a few drinks in the piazza near the trevi fountain, dinner in an exclusive but humble restaurant, then wander the streets under the starlight looking at all the beautiful architecture.

Or get an m and s dine in for two and watch a horror movie Grin

EternalOptimist7 · 01/02/2021 14:28

showofhands the flowers & chocs are what I usually have but I’m not getting them this year

OP posts:
MolyHolyGuacamole · 01/02/2021 14:29

Watching a horror with a takeaway, as per usual Wink

MaverickDanger · 01/02/2021 14:38

Our local pub are doing a 3 course meal for £25 pp (seafood starter, steak main, chocolate dessert & wine) so will probably get that as a February treat, as we don’t celebrate Valentines.

We’re trying to do one nice treat a month!

BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz · 01/02/2021 14:39

We are typically away at Valentine's (not for Valentine's, just our usually family break falls the same week most years) so we don't celebrate it as a rule.

This year we've got nothing to do and nowhere to go so we may well mourn the missed break than celebrate Valentine's.

Maybe get a takeaway? But we do that once or twice a month anyway.
