What comedies have you and your younger teens enjoyed together?

We've got into the habit of watching a sitcom while we eat every evening with DS (nearly 14). So far we've watched the whole of 'Friday Night Dinner' (his favourite by far), 'Ghosts', 'The IT Crowd' and 'Speechless' but we're not sure what to watch next. We tried 'Father Ted' but he wasn't keen on the first episode. I've got 'Bad Education' on my list on Netflix but I've never seen it - is it any good? Any other suggestions?

Black books?

Bagelsandbrie · 31/01/2021 17:18

Bad education is good but it’s a fair bit ruder than Friday Night Dinner. We love it but depends how you feel about it!

Not exactly comedy but funny in places and good family viewing generally - Cobra Kai. You don’t have to be a karate kid fan to enjoy it (tho it helps!) we all really loved that and laughed a lot.

We loved Brooklyn 99 and fresh off the boat!

My DD 14 has enjoyed these since last March (she watches too much telly!!)
Fresh Prince of Bel Air
Friends
Brooklyn 99
Modern Family
Taskmaster
How I met your mother
Big Bang theory

Brooklyn 99 - why didn't I think of that?! DH and I have watched all but the most recent series on Netflix and loved it. Black Books is another good one. Might give Bad Education a miss for now. Haven't come across Cobra Kai or Fresh off the Boat but I'll check them out as well. Thanks :)

I've watched Gavin & Stacey and Derry Girls with DD but she's 16 though.

Ds (13) likes Blackadder and, not a sitcom but, is currently enjoying Rhod Gilbert's Work Experience

Mydogisagentleman · 31/01/2021 17:40

Plebs

SingleHandSue · 31/01/2021 17:44

This Country was popular with my teen DS when it first came out.

He’s recently gone old school and watches Bottom and loves I’m Alan Partridge

Gavin and Stacey and Only Fools are very often on in this house too.

DinosApple · 31/01/2021 17:58

Ours are slightly younger (10&11), but we're loving Fresh Prince, the whole lot is on iPlayer at the moment.

tothesea · 31/01/2021 18:06

The Goldbergs and Malcolm in the Middle..both laugh out loud funny.

MardyBicardi · 31/01/2021 18:06

My dts are 10, so considerably younger but they loved Malcolm in the middle. It’s on more 4.
We also enjoyed modern family but didn’t think the last few series were as good.
Watching with interest as we are looking for something new to watch. We are currently watching supermarket / superstore on Netflix which is ok.

HermioneWeasley · 31/01/2021 18:07

My ds is 13 and we watch allo allo together. He thinks it’s hilarious, especially the little innuendos

newtb · 31/01/2021 19:04

L'aile ou la cuisse - it's available in English with Louis de Funès
la grande vadrouille
Miss Congeniality
Transporter
Die hard
Lethal weapon
Red Dwarf
St Trinians

XH used to watch pointless and the chase every single bloody night and never ever asked me what I'd like to watch. Now I hardly bother.

Felty · 31/01/2021 19:19

Seinfeld
Parks and Rec
Modern Family
Friends
New Girl

MimsyBorogroves · 31/01/2021 19:29

As something a bit different, look at Mischief on FB. Same people who do The Goes Wrong Show (also highly recommended) but you pay £10 to watch a live stream of an improvised comedy. Absolutely brilliant.
