Woke up to an email CC’d to 72 people to tell me my work is wrong

CcWanker · 31/01/2021 12:38

It literally just says

“This is WRONG Jane. WRONG”

I send out a report each week to all 72 people. One of those people has found an error and replied to all 72 with the above.

The report is literally a rundown of figures sent to me from different people which I collate into this report, it’s basically a weekly sitrep.

  1. the error is so minor it makes no difference to anything
  2. it isn’t my error it’s the error of the person who sent me that part of the report

This report goes out to exec level people all the way down to the bottom of the food chain. The person who has cc’d everyone is a very senior manager.

Do I respond to just her or everyone and make it clear it’s not my error?

Was just going to say I favoured 4amWitchingHour's response. Making a claim that something is not your fault could be viewed as petulant - even if it's true. An approach showing your willingness to fix it would be more dignified. I wouldn't even dignify rudie's response So glad you have a good enough manager who is sharp enough to see past her antiques. I'll think you'll find most if not all recipients won't be searching for the error - what jumps out is her tone and ineptitude. So sorry you have to work with someone like that. Enjoy the rest of your Sunday Thanks

ShellieEllie · 31/01/2021 15:52

I think I'd have to start the email... Thank you for your email, the tone of which I found to be incredibly rude and belittling. As I'm sure you are well aware, I am only responsible for the collation of the data I am provided with, not the accuracy of the figures.

People that do things like this really need to be called out publically for it.

YouJustDoYou · 31/01/2021 15:55

Lol lol at update 😁

BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz · 31/01/2021 15:56

Love the update!

Whendogsrulestheworld · 31/01/2021 15:57

100% don’t do anything now. Guarantee eyebrows would have been raised and senior managers will talk about it between themselves.

Milomonster · 31/01/2021 15:59

I love your usernane. Call ccwanker out in the tone . I was sent an accusatory email from a very senior person (I was trying to donate masks during 1st lockdown on behalf of a friend via staff bulletin board). Some dick forwarded to senior person and he wrote an email implying I’d stolen them from work. I didn’t hesitate in writing back with a very sharply-worded email. He sent a groveling apology.) You can be dignified in your response but don’t accept this bullshit.

Spudina · 31/01/2021 16:02

Great update. The managers cards have been marked and everyone will see them for what they are. I don’t think you should get into tit for tat emails, however tempting. Just explain the situation to your manager in person and leave them to sort.

CustardySergeant · 31/01/2021 16:06

"Are people assuming that 'cultural' differences are to do with the rude woman being non-white? Because when I heard that I assumed that she was German, Russian or (possibly) Dutch."

I guessed German or Dutch (didn't think of Russian).

Whythesadface · 31/01/2021 16:11

Do not reply, anything you send out she will use against you.
Instead email the other manager, request their help in going forward.

@IthinkIm

I would reply

This isn't my mistake but I will email the person who made it privately to let them know.

Regards

Jane

THIS
Triffid1 · 31/01/2021 16:13

Haha, the response is brilliant. I was coming on to say that that kind of email, cc'ing that many people, actually makes the person sending it look much worse than any error you may or may not have made!!

Goodbye2020Hello2021 · 31/01/2021 16:13

@CcWanker

Oh oh oh UPDATE

Another senior manager has replied. Same level as ccwanker

“Can I remind all staff of protected rest periods (weekends) and the current focus on staff wellbeing within the company, unless urgent emails should not be sent over the weekend.

Thank you for your work Jane, I’m sure we can pick this up on Monday”

GrinGrinGrin

Fantastic!! They have got your back! Brilliant!
PlanDeRaccordement · 31/01/2021 16:13

I’d hit “reply all”
Then put in to “to” the person who sent you the error
Then state, Dear error person, so and so has identified an error in the report, which I believe came from your department. Please correct said error and sent update out to all. Many thanks xx Cici.

saraclara · 31/01/2021 16:14

Hooray for the other senior manager! Beautifully done by them.

Atalune · 31/01/2021 16:14

That’s great. Sometimes the best response is to do nothing at all.

I bet rude manager is going to get a bollocking. Do nothing and keep your powder dry!

Yes this is a good response

Poor you sorry this happened

Some people are nasty ass holes

Eskarina1 · 31/01/2021 16:17

That update email is a thing of beauty

Mummyoflittledragon · 31/01/2021 16:18

I’m glad a senior manager has your back. Did they send it to all 72 participants?

Spudina · 31/01/2021 16:22

I’m sorry but this is terrible advice. Just because someone had done this to you, that’s no reason to do it to someone else. Cc’ing all is a dick move and is not gonna win you friends. If you want to point out the error,do it in private.

LApprentiSorcier · 31/01/2021 16:24

I would do absolutely nothing now the other manager has sent an email. The point has been made that the first email was inappropriate, in view of all the other recipients.

PartoftheProbl3m · 31/01/2021 16:27

God if one more person Quotes that squirrels reply i will combust :)

Amazing. Yay for Excellent Manager.

I wouldn’t send a Reply All now, actually- I’d pick it up with my line manager tomorrow first thing & ask them to clarify to everyone that your role is to collate info not check it. And reissue the report with the data corrected but no other comment.

Pizzafortwo · 31/01/2021 16:35

Well it depends, have they highlighted what was wrong so the 1 in 72 people who made the mistake will know it was theirs. Or do only you know who it was. Or does the rude manager know who it was too.

CharityDingle · 31/01/2021 16:36

@LApprentiSorcier

Exactly.

I would stay quiet, for now. I wouldn't rise to the bait, and I would have a chat with my manager about the rude person.
