Woke up to an email CC’d to 72 people to tell me my work is wrong

CcWanker · 31/01/2021 12:38

It literally just says

“This is WRONG Jane. WRONG”

I send out a report each week to all 72 people. One of those people has found an error and replied to all 72 with the above.

The report is literally a rundown of figures sent to me from different people which I collate into this report, it’s basically a weekly sitrep.

  1. the error is so minor it makes no difference to anything
  2. it isn’t my error it’s the error of the person who sent me that part of the report

This report goes out to exec level people all the way down to the bottom of the food chain. The person who has cc’d everyone is a very senior manager.

Do I respond to just her or everyone and make it clear it’s not my error?

I would be tempted to not reply at all. Or at least wait quite a long time, to demonstrate how unimportant her comment is. This person doesn't deserve the validation of a reply.
Perhaps you could just put a disclaimer in next time you send the report, to say that you cannot vouch for the accuracy of any of the data.

HamAndButterSandwich · 31/01/2021 15:12

God she's made a real fool of herself.

yearinyearout · 31/01/2021 15:12

I would reply to all stating that it wasn't your mistake!

peak2021 · 31/01/2021 15:17

Sending one on a non-working day if Sunday indeed is one, perhaps not expecting it to be read until Monday morning, is an additional sneaky way of behaving. You cannot be expected to receive a reply straight away so perhaps less chance of being accountable, and a bad email to start a Monday morning is not very kind.

Agree with others that cultural should not be assumed to be about ethnicity.

Chloemol · 31/01/2021 15:23

I would just reply to all, state what the error is, that the you have collated the information, not provided it

Then I would send a separate email to her manager stating that this is not the correct way to bring something to your attention, that you are upset that she has sent an email like this copying in 72 people making you look stupid, and that you want it taken forward with her, and an apology and an assurance she won’t do this again

BlackAmericanoNoSugar · 31/01/2021 15:26

Are people assuming that 'cultural' differences are to do with the rude woman being non-white? Because when I heard that I assumed that she was German, Russian or (possibly) Dutch.

Anyway, if work are taking the 'we can't change her because it's cultural' approach, then my culture (Irish) would be to become extremely low response to a rude fucker. She made a statement, she didn't expressly ask for something to be done about it or for feedback so I would just completely ignore it. Also, rude people don't get favours, I work to rule for them and if cooperative people need something from me then the rude fucker's work will be pushed down my priority list.

ZippedyDooDa · 31/01/2021 15:30

I would NOT publicly embarrass the person who actually made the error - that's just being as big a jerk as the person complaining who is publicly embarrassgin you. Find a different way to word it.

Choux · 31/01/2021 15:30

I would wait till tomorrow then re work the report and resend to all 72 with a note saying:

I am resending the report due to the error noted by RudeManager. The impact of this error is 'a reduction to the profit figure of £2'. (Or whatever the impact is. Be sure to show it makes no real difference)

Could all data providers please double check their data before sending as, although I collate the data, I have no way of checking the accuracy of submissions.

Going forwards please email me individually with any queries or corrections

Regards

Oh oh oh UPDATE

Another senior manager has replied. Same level as ccwanker

“Can I remind all staff of protected rest periods (weekends) and the current focus on staff wellbeing within the company, unless urgent emails should not be sent over the weekend.

Thank you for your work Jane, I’m sure we can pick this up on Monday”

Oh that’s brilliant!

I’d still send NoSquirrels reply tomorrow at 9 on the dot!

Spudlet · 31/01/2021 15:33

Hah! Someone’s card has been marked then. Good for other senior manager person 👍

cheeseybean · 31/01/2021 15:33

I ❤️ that senior manager Grin

pictish · 31/01/2021 15:34

Oooh sweet!

drumst1ck · 31/01/2021 15:35

Yes for the other manager!! I agree with still sending NoSquirrels reply on Monday morning. Sorry you had to be at the end of that, some people are right dicks.

supersop60 · 31/01/2021 15:37

@NoSquirrels

I might reply with something like

Thanks for noting that, RudeManager.

Could I please ask that everyone double-checks their data before sending through as I collate what’s sent in to me but have no way of checking for accuracy of figures provided.

Many thanks,

Jane

This. It's factual and to the point.
supersop60 · 31/01/2021 15:39

Sorry - posted before I noticed how many posts there were. I'm glad someone has your back!

I actually disagree do not respond. Inform your manager of the situation. Advise Manager that when you email out for the information for the next reporting period you will be asking everyone to double check their data as a small error was noted in previous information.

This makes RudeManager look OTT and ridiculous without being too passive aggressive, gives time for things to settle, avoids being criticised for cc emails on minor issues (esp to busy senior folk)and avoids looking like you jump off the handle in defensive mode ie take things too personally (you might and might also be entitled to but you don't want them to know that).

Have to laugh at sending an email on Sunday to remind everyone not to send emails on Sunday.

They will undoubtedly have form , so fear not. Just send a correction to all without any apology, everyone sensible will understand these things happen. However speak to your manager about improving the process such as having someone validate and sign off the report. For the validation you just need to have a random check of the report- but make sure to cover the critical figures. If you are putting data in a spread sheet to collate you can set up your won threshold flags that will auto flag data that is out of expected range.

Neversleepingever · 31/01/2021 15:49

Haha, love that response from the other senior manager!

YoniAndGuy · 31/01/2021 15:50

Oh dear, it looks as if Wanker's card is marked!!!

MarshaBradyo · 31/01/2021 15:50

Don’t do anything

And talk to your manager and ask for advice

MarshaBradyo · 31/01/2021 15:51

Great someone else stepped in

As it should be
