Woke up to an email CC’d to 72 people to tell me my work is wrong

412 replies

CcWanker · 31/01/2021 12:38

It literally just says

“This is WRONG Jane. WRONG”

I send out a report each week to all 72 people. One of those people has found an error and replied to all 72 with the above.

The report is literally a rundown of figures sent to me from different people which I collate into this report, it’s basically a weekly sitrep.

  1. the error is so minor it makes no difference to anything
  2. it isn’t my error it’s the error of the person who sent me that part of the report

This report goes out to exec level people all the way down to the bottom of the food chain. The person who has cc’d everyone is a very senior manager.

Do I respond to just her or everyone and make it clear it’s not my error?

Clarify that it is not your error as your role is collation not creation.
Ask all recipients to kindly ensure that their data is correct prior to submission.

To be fair you didn't have to be perfect, just read the last message in the thread that said it was 2 months old then.

@Blueroses99

Reply to all so that they don’t know that it’s your error. Explain the data (and error) came from Y and that you collate the data but are not responsible for verifying the accuracy of the data.
"Reply to all so that they don’t know that it’s your error."

It's not her error so she has to reply so they know it's not. Explaining is good though. There's no reason to take blame or responsibility for someone else's mistake. This needs to be made clear to all of the CC recipients, otherwise they all gossip and the matter will never be cleared. By explaining it may also remind them to check their own work before sending it on.

ItsCokeFFS · 23/05/2021 13:26

Maybe she could remind them to check the date too Grin

Tiktokersmiracle · 23/05/2021 13:28

@CcWanker

FWIW I am also bottom of the food chain!

I feel mortified. It isn’t my job to check the info people send me. I wouldn’t even have a way of checking it. It’s all different departments I just collate and put into this report

I would indeed point out it wasn't your error, then I would forward a serious grievance to HR. That's just bully behaviour
2bazookas · 23/05/2021 13:44

I would email her and ask her to withdraW HER PUBLIC ACCUSATION THE SAME WAY SHE MADE IT

I would ask her to correct her mistake by sending another email to all recipients, apologising for her earlier mistake AND pointing out that Jane did nothing wrong

readytosell · 23/05/2021 14:38

Oh gosh I just read this and thought... I swear I've seen this story before.

Because I have.

Zombies galore Grin

@2bazookas
@Tiktokersmiracle

Maybe read the OPs update from January

She'd look pretty daft sending shouty emails and raising HR grievances after all this time.
