Woke up to an email CC’d to 72 people to tell me my work is wrong

CcWanker · 31/01/2021 12:38

It literally just says

“This is WRONG Jane. WRONG”

I send out a report each week to all 72 people. One of those people has found an error and replied to all 72 with the above.

The report is literally a rundown of figures sent to me from different people which I collate into this report, it’s basically a weekly sitrep.

  1. the error is so minor it makes no difference to anything
  2. it isn’t my error it’s the error of the person who sent me that part of the report

This report goes out to exec level people all the way down to the bottom of the food chain. The person who has cc’d everyone is a very senior manager.

Do I respond to just her or everyone and make it clear it’s not my error?

72 people will be thinking "wow what a low ball move" so kill with kindness in your short reply

MarshaBradyo · 31/01/2021 16:38

Whatever you do, don’t reply to all.

That really will irritate

stablefeet · 31/01/2021 16:40

I agree with the others who are saying that since this other manager's email you shouldn't send anything at all. Speak to your line manager tomorrow and decide if anything needs doing about it with their support.

Goodbye2020Hello2021 · 31/01/2021 16:42

I agree! The other manager has replied on your behalf! Grin

InsufferableLKIA · 31/01/2021 16:43

Going against the brain but I disagree with NoSquirrels. If this is a non-critical mistake (and assuming it’s a one-off) then it shouldn’t be a big deal and shouldn’t need everyone nervously doing extra checks for fear of being called out in public in future. The only issue here is CcWanker’s rudeness.

I’d privately contact the person whose error it was, get a correction, and send out an update. 72 people will have been thinking “ Shock how bloody rude” at CcWanker’s email. You can be calm and dignified and send out a “please find a corrected version attached” email which just doesn’t engage with the rudeness at all.

I’d also ask my manager to complain about CcWanker’s rudeness to her manager. They are probably waiting for the time when she is rude enough or rude often enough to be pulled up over it, if she’s like this a lot.

Chicchicchicchiclana · 31/01/2021 16:44

@justchecking1

I will sort that IMMEDIATELY, Betty. IMMEDIATELY
I like this one best Grin.

But of course you aren't going to reply at all until tomorrow. And then I would just respond to your manager and not cc in everyone else. They all know, don't worry!

InsufferableLKIA · 31/01/2021 16:44

*against the grain Grin

Bedforme · 31/01/2021 16:46

Like the Senior Manager response. As regards them working on Sunday maybe they open emails from other senior managers on Sunday as they expect it will be something urgent.

Talk to your line manger on Monday and decide how to handle it.

If you reply to all - If the person who made the mistake is at your level or junior or maybe even just one rung up and not a twat you may want to contact them separately, especially if you know them. that you know it was a typo/not vital and you only replied to everyone because of the twat cc. They may be feeling bad/worried about consequences for you and themselves.

MNnicknameforCVthreads · 31/01/2021 16:50

I wouldn’t reply to all.

The other people cc’d will know/realise the sender has been a dick.

Next time you send the report you can include the bit about asking people to double check info as you just collate.

ArabellaScott · 31/01/2021 16:55

Nice update!

rwalker · 31/01/2021 16:58

do nothing next week put a disclaimer on the bottom advising you

"collate all figures and and queries about individual info please contact relevant person/dept"

C152 · 31/01/2021 17:04

What a dick. I like NoSquirrel's suggested reply.

Changechangychange · 31/01/2021 17:06

Surely the only response to being asked that in writing is “nope!”

Changechangychange · 31/01/2021 17:06

@CcWanker

Oh oh oh UPDATE

Another senior manager has replied. Same level as ccwanker

“Can I remind all staff of protected rest periods (weekends) and the current focus on staff wellbeing within the company, unless urgent emails should not be sent over the weekend.

Thank you for your work Jane, I’m sure we can pick this up on Monday”

GrinGrinGrin

For now I’d leave it as it is. See what Monday brings
AnemalMajik · 31/01/2021 17:10

@CcWanker Sorry if I'm not the first to say this (I haven't read the whole thread) but you should always use BCC rather than CC when sending to a large list of people. It stops people from using "Reply all" by mistake.

I would reply to him alone (rather than to everyone) to put him straight, but I would also suggest he makes a public apology or, ask your line manager to request that on your behalf.

Ninkanink · 31/01/2021 17:10

Awesome update and kudos to that manager!

I did like the IMMEDIATELY response. I wish I had thought of that.

Ohdeariedear · 31/01/2021 17:12

I’d do absolutely nothing for now. I suspect there will be emails flying left right and centre between the senior team!

I’d speak to your manager tomorrow and say you would like to send an email (ie No Squirrel’s excellent text) and are they happy for you to do that? Shows them that you have considered it and have a way forward, but also gives them the opportunity to take it up on your behalf. The latter is what should be happening and I’d be also expecting an apology from the other manager, also cc’d to everyone, by the end of the day.

TrappedAndDepressed · 31/01/2021 17:14

Out of interest and apologies if I haven't picked it up - was the rude manager a female, I'm guessing the OP is female and was the nice manager that stepped in male?
In my experience women can be awful to other women and seize any opportunity to look better. Men do this also of course, but not quick to jump as women are in business.

Ohdeariedear · 31/01/2021 17:15

100% agree @TrappedAndDepressed.

grassisjeweled · 31/01/2021 17:19

protected rest periods (weekends)

Laughing at weekend in brackets

grassisjeweled · 31/01/2021 17:22

Maybe our rescuing manager is a mnetter?

CcWanker · 31/01/2021 17:25

Woman to woman and update manager is male yes

Person who made the mistake is not included in 72 list and I wouldn’t ever call them out like that

I'd have your email ready to send at 8am on the dot tomorrow morning if I were you, with a thanks to the senior management who tried to shut this down.

Make sure you make it clearer than clear that the error is not yours.

That bitch needs a slap!
