So tomorrow, I am going for a coffee and a browse in the shops.

Want to come? I think start off with a lovely coffee and just watch the people rushing by....then what next?

Yes to most of these! The bookshops, charity shops and craft shops... add in a couple of hippy shops, feeling all that velvet and silk, smelling the oils and incense, getting a foot massage, then an Indian head massage. The art gallery, with a big new exhibition by one of my favourites. Tea and cakes in the listed Tudor tea shop. Then round the museum. Wandering round a big department store, just because. Watching some street theatre, and taking time to listen to the buskers. Visit the cathedral and the nearby ice cream parlour.
Dinner in the Italian restaurant, followed by theatre or cinema.
Soon,

Can we wonder through the pop up food market and get some exotic street food that smells so delicious.? Maybe buy a brownie from a little artisan stall for when we get home.

LastStarFighter · 31/01/2021 10:33

Yesterday was lovely, but I am slightly regretting one too many cocktails.

After a lie-in this morning I picked the kids up from their sleepovers and somehow ended up with a bunch of their friends coming over to ours, so I now have a houseful of a half dozen tired and excitable teenagers.

They are lounging over the sofas, playing on the playstation, showing each other things on their phones and laughing raucously. I’m rustling up endless rounds of snacks and drinks in the kitchen, happily listening to the chatter in the next room, while random kids help me out with the food and tell me all about what’s going on in their lives.

They’ll disappear off at various points in the afternoon, apart from DS’s best friend who will announce at 9pm that he assumed he was staying over.

By that point my brother will also have arrived and we’ll be eating pizza giggling over an old comedy on TV.

Bouledeneige · 31/01/2021 10:37

I'm there! Sun is shining so I will have my sunnies on. I'm looking for some flat boots if there are any sales on. Up for lunch, gallery and cinema. Maybe if there's time a walk by the river. But definitely people watching.

Bumpsadaisie · 31/01/2021 11:19

Ooh this is a lovely thread! Its made me so excited for May/June/July/August or whenever it is we can do this stuff.

I had a busy day yesterday. Took my DS to his footie match and after we went for a pizza. Then collected my DD from her rehearsal for the play she's in at school. Called in on my parents for a cup of tea on the way home ... then DH and I got ready in our new outfits we got last week on our shopping trip ... the babysitter arrived and we went out for a lovely meal.

Ahh!

Nomnomarrgh · 31/01/2021 11:44

There’s going to be a huge flash mob, taking over half the train station floor dancing their heads off to some funky music (leaving space for those who actually want to catch a train obvs.)

CoalHouseDoor · 31/01/2021 12:24

@Fairydustrust

Yeah. ALL OF THAT
I’m
Having the Welsh Rarebit at Fortnum’s.

And an unconscionable number of cocktails.

Fairydustrust · 31/01/2021 12:56

And an unconscionable number of cocktails.
Ha. Try to say that after the cocktails!

It's snowing heavily here. We'll be finding a rustic pub with a roaring fire, and settling in for a three course Sunday lunch with a few pints

I have piles of stuff for charity. Would also love a wander round TKMaxx just to find some rubbish item of clothing to marvel over.

LadyStarlight · 31/01/2021 13:38

It was lovely being back in the shops again yesterday but today we've opted for a trip to the farmers market. Then I think we'll wander to that little pub with the open fire and the really good carvery roast. DD can have a j20 because it makes her feel grown up. We can walk off our meal by the river turn head home with our market goodies.

Oh, if only.

Fairydustrust · 31/01/2021 14:06

Wistful sigh indeed....

Labobo · 31/01/2021 14:20

@Janus - you're welcome to join me in any of it! Though with the addition of your teleporter, you might be tagging along to wander through Kyoto food markets and gardens and divine stationers jobs of Japanese paper. We can always come back to London in time for tea though.

Labobo · 31/01/2021 14:20

shops not job. Weird spellcheck.

Justmuddlingalong · 31/01/2021 14:45

I was sent this today and thought it was apt given all our plans.

Today, I dared to let myself dream,
That the world will one day open again.
That the locks will loosen, the walls will fall,
The doors will fly open and reunite us all.

I dared to imagine the warmth of a cuddle,
A group of my friends all locked in a huddle.
I felt all the heartbeats, drumming with mine,
I heard all the laughter, I tasted the wine.

I thought of the feelings I’ve missed for long,
The room full of music, united by song.
The freedom to roam, to plan and to meet
To hold someone’s hand, to meet, to greet.

Just for a moment I dared to dream of,
The flights I would board to the places I love.
The moment those eyes would meet mine at the gate,
The feeling of joy after so long a wait.

Today, I dared to let myself dream,
That the life we once had would happen again.
That we’d no longer fear the danger of air,
That our lives would not depend on such care.

They say that we mustn’t wish time away,
But it’s hard, my friend, when faced with a day,
So long in blank hours and so wiped of laughter,
It’s tempting to drift away to thereafter.

So yes, I dared to dream just a while,
Of life coming back, it brought me a smile.
One day I know, this will be in the past,
And hugs will be free, again, at last.

💙

I’ve read a news report from when the Berlin wall fell. I wonder if we will all feel like them, or if it will all be over so quickly that life returning to normal will be nothing.

VinylCafe · 31/01/2021 14:58

@newbie987

This is my most favourite post on MN so far. I think I want to do everything!! Bookshops, craft shops, coffee shops and people watching, feeling the fabric in fabric shops...shoes...definitely shoe shopping too! Theatre and cinema sound so good!! As do spa days / jacuzzis too, so much to fit in, I think I'd have to do it over a few days!!
Can I tag along? I love bookshops and will spend way too much money in craft stores. Afterwards, I will sit down with a huge latte and spend the time people watching. I used to think I was an introverted people hater but I've since found out I'm not. I miss people, the conversations and the bustling about.

I think it’s going to take a little while - I was watching an old programme the other night (Time Team!) and everyone was standing together, breathing all over each other, and then sitting together having a beer on a summer evening. It looked lovely but also a bit wrong - quite uncomfortable, almost. I think it might take us all a while to adapt to being allowed to do things like that again and not worry about it.

We will, though 👍

I'm coming, just wait for me to put on the clothes I've ordered in the last few months waiting for this time to come - flattering jeans, trainers with a subtle but cool leopard trim, a bright pink jumper with fab sleeves... I also need to straighten my hair and put some LIPSTICK on..... wait for me!!

SingleHandSue · 31/01/2021 16:16

I want to go my town’s flower show.

I don’t even like gardening but I want to wander through the home style area and the crowded food halls trying samples of cheese, local gin and the amazing toffee vodka that’s always there.

I’ll meet up with my aunt, uncle and cousin and we’ll sit near the band stand with overpriced glasses of Prosecco and listen to the music playing.

As the evening draws in I’ll head to the main arena and watch whatever band is playing before the firework show.

Then I’ll walk down to the curry house and eat until I’m bursting.

Janus · 31/01/2021 16:19

@Labobo ok, twist my arm, we will use the teleporter for Kyoto!! I’d like to also have a quick lunch at Joe’s Shanghai in Chinatown in New York if we can possibly fit in all this food?!!

Labobo · 31/01/2021 16:23

@Janus - well, we will be walking miles and I've heard teleporting burns 1000s of calories, so Joe's Shanghai is booked.

Spudlet · 31/01/2021 16:35

Would anyone like to come to Italy with me, if the teleport is free? I know a great pizzeria in Parma. Then we could pop to Siena and sit in the piazza and people watch with a drink.
