When you are driving and overtaking another car is it possible to see who is in the driver and front passenger seat if you were to look?
I'm asking as I can't drive.

Sorry that should be the passengers of the car you are overtaking.

Yes you can see into the car as you go past.
How good a look depends on how fast you are going.

BiggerBoat1 · 30/01/2021 11:21

Yes you can but probably better to look at the road!

Wenolikeexplodeythings · 30/01/2021 11:21

Even if you can drive, surely you've sat in a car before and seen those things called windows?
Of course you can look in as you pass someone. How good a look depends on your speed, but they can also look in their rear view mirror and see though your front window (depending in glare and how close you are etc).

Wenolikeexplodeythings · 30/01/2021 11:22

*cant

LochJessMonster · 30/01/2021 11:23

They probably wouldn’t have got that good a look at the passenger, if that helps.

WeeDangerousSpike · 30/01/2021 11:23

You'd have to actively look, so turn your head as you got level with them. It's not a usual thing to do, I'd only do it if they were driving erratically and I was looking to see if they were on the phone or distressed or something.

It's easier to look in the mirror if you pull in in front of them.

Mumdiva99 · 30/01/2021 11:24

No, I wouldn't be able to see. I would be looking at the road ahead.

WingBingo · 30/01/2021 11:24

I’m looking ahead if I am overtaking. Looking to your left at that point isn’t a very good idea.

Treatscatscrave · 30/01/2021 11:27

I won't bore you with the details other than to say that the person doing the overtaking is a competent driver who would have wanted to see who was in passenger seat as they already knew who the driver was.

Cheersdickie · 30/01/2021 11:28

Yes it is possible. And enjoyable sometimes to try and catch the other drivers eye to give them a stare for driving like a twat

PurplePansy05 · 30/01/2021 11:28

You can if you pay attention but I just look at the road and mirrors tbh. Why would you look at the people?

Cheersdickie · 30/01/2021 11:29

As for your update, it is harder to see the passenger - you’d have to probably look slightly longer than for just the driver because you need to be slightly ahead of the car to see them - which is likely more dangerous.

RuggeryBuggery · 30/01/2021 11:30

Driver - yes
Passenger I think would be more tricky as driver would sort of be blocking the view

Wickstead · 30/01/2021 11:38

Yes, you could

Yes, It would be dangerous

Better to look in your rear view mirror once you were in front of them

LochJessMonster · 30/01/2021 11:43

Were they overtaking on a single carriageway or a multi lane road? Makes a difference to how long you can safely look for.
Also, day/night makes a difference.

But yes they would be able to see who was in the passenger seat.

davidsSchitt · 30/01/2021 11:44

Yes why? Shouldn't you have been in the car?

Treatscatscrave · 30/01/2021 11:44

I've put this clumsily, it should really read: IF you wanted to, when overtaking or immediately aftwerwards, could you see who passenger in front seat of car you overtook is?

Yes.
PigletJohn · 30/01/2021 12:19

not easily or safely.

BorisandHarriet · 30/01/2021 12:30

Yes you can. But as others have said if you’re turning your head that much back then you risk not seeing something ahead.

As a PP has said, probably easier, safer to look in your rear view mirror once you’ve pulled back in.

If you are driving sensibly and safely, no. You would be looking at the road ahead for oncoming dangers.
DifficultBloodyWoman · 30/01/2021 12:43

Depends on the driving conditions, the road and speed.

Yes, it is possible but also no, it is not always possible.

Who wanted to see whom? I’m imagining cheating spouses and affair partners.

davidsSchitt · 31/01/2021 10:54

I'd say after your latest thread that although it's possible, it's very unlikely.

It's more likely your relatives ex never overtook him in the first place and he is lying through his teeth

peak2021 · 31/01/2021 11:03

Yes you can but better the passenger looks not you.
