Welcome in ADs. Snuggle up hygge-style 'cause there ain't much going on out there for a while... except rain.

I haven't got a pussy of my own for gratuitous showing off, so I shall pretend to be Dr Evil with Mr Biggleswade Grin

@Wishfulthinking1977 Thank you for that. I've ruffled a few feathers over there, been spat at by the vipers from behind their masks, and been told I'm a mental case (ironically when I'm citing the decimation of people's mental health), but that comes with the territory of having the minority view in a hotbed of zealots. However, I have noticed a remarkable shift in the general tone over there: much of it is saner than it used to be, and less of it is spilling over into "trending now". I have the topic hidden, but I dip into it when I fancy fighting the good fight. After all, last year many of them were saying "I won't ever do xyz again until there's a vaccine". Now there is one, or two, or three! Smile

I'm enjoying the cat theme, too. I'm a cat lover, but I won't post pictures of mine on here because I have loads of photos of them on Facebook, so it might be outing. (And overt anti-lockdowners have to lie low.) Speaking of cats, does anyone remember the insanity in week 3 of the first lockdown, when some "expert" or other thought that cats might carry the virus, and should be kept in? Back then, I was genuinely worried for the safety of outdoor cats; not because of the virus, but because of the zealots. Thank goodness nothing came of that.

BogRollBOGOF · 29/01/2021 22:14

Yes, I remember the cat theory. I'm glad that one passed quickly.
Shame runners still seem to be in the top 5 of public enemies.

There is definitely more dialogue in that section than there was. At about the point that the AD threads started, we made up the majority of critical points of discussion rather than blindly repeating project fear or moralising over additional rules. It also wasn't OK to be struggling with anything that wasn't sadly dying of Covid. There's been a shift on that through the autumn, but massively so this month. I'm not a misery loves company person, but it's reassuring that others are feeling similar issues rather than struggling alone and being shouted down and told to lump it be resiliant and grateful that they're not Anne Frank by the types who'd have gladly grassed her up

I get my baby tortoise tomorrow, but as she's not a cat can I put a picture up or will I be banned? Lol.

Still can't decide on a name although Twinkle fits in with the theme of this thread!

Wishfulthinking1977 · 29/01/2021 22:23

Your welcome @wanderings you are amazing!! XxOn the subjects of vax my mil (84 high vulnerable cat) told the nurse no way??!! She's never had flu and she was really ill with the flu jab! Fil had his first today and was given the booklet afterwards and said if he had read it at home he wouldn't have gone!! He now also has been referred to hospital for bowel cancer tests and has refused to go until in his words (this covid crap has gone!) no wonder we have the highest death rate when everyone is to scared to ask or accept any help!!

SirSamuelVimes · 29/01/2021 22:41

Personally, I demand a tortoise picture! You could always put a cat ears filter on it Grin

DWPmisery1972 · 29/01/2021 23:09

Question; one of my long haired beasties doesn’t groom himself and so has to be clipped under anaesthetic (I don’t know why he doesn’t groom, he is just incredibly lazy and his hair gets extremely knotty very fast). It’s at the point where it is completely out of control now and I’m concerned about his skin integrity and he is becoming more and more tetchy about being handled, I assume because of the pain of the knots. Would i be able to get him into a vets for this at the moment or would it be considered non essential? I can’t seem to find a definitive answer anywhere. I will call the vets tomorrow/Monday but was just curious if anyone knew. Thanks everyone Brew

DWPmisery1972 · 29/01/2021 23:11

My cats are all indoor cats but I was very worried about the street cats round here when that theory was doing the rounds, so I used to go out at night and attract them all to my doorstep with food like a proper crazy cat lady Blush

SirSamuelVimes · 30/01/2021 00:33

Oh god I've gone over there. There's an awful lot of sanctimonious bullshit on a thread about LIBRARIES for god's sake.

Don't people get that if you let these places close its going to be bloody hard to get them open again? Councils will have their funding cut again to help claw back money after this. Funding that has already been decimated by austerity. Close libraries down and tell everyone it's fine, that there's virtual library apps and you can download ebooks, and guess what, the council can say how successful it was and how much everyone loved it and they can just leave the actual library locked up, sack the staff, sell the building, and save themselves a load of money.

Why are people in such a hurry to give things away??

BogRollBOGOF · 30/01/2021 00:39

Our library's practically been given away already, and prior to Covid already had opening hours similar to a Vogon planning application department.

It still had a useful range of hours when DS1 was a baby and it was a good dead afternoon killer to potter down, browse and feela part of society. Rhyme time was good (despite the inevitable wresting match between crawling DS1 and the posessive pres-schoolee iver the only drum Grin)

Am fairly confident that you’ll be fine booking your cat in for this. Can only go on my local vets, but they are really keen that you don’t”hold off” on sorting stuff. Yes, they will have procedures in place for reduced contact, but they don’t want animals suffering.

Hopefully you’ll be able to get him sorted early next week.

Pleasedontdothat · 30/01/2021 06:59

@DWPmisery1972 definitely call your vet - that’s absolutely a welfare issue - one of our old cats used to be the same and it can actually be very dangerous if left as the skin breaks down and becomes infected

And yes we definitely need tortoise pictures Smile

I think the tide is turning ...Covid: The devastating toll of the pandemic on children

chocolatesweets · 30/01/2021 07:40

@Pleasedontdothat breaks my heart. All of it. Teary last night. I'm just sad now. Not angry.

ISaySteadyOn · 30/01/2021 08:26

@Curlygirl06, I posted my cat pic on the last thread in hopes of starting a small trend of pet photos and in special anticipation of a tortoise photo.

BogRollBOGOF · 30/01/2021 08:31

Except it's a punitive lockdown policy and choice of rules that's caused it rather than the pandemic itself.

The government chose to ban two families from meeting under the rule of 6.

The government chose to close schools, delay their opening and give different amounts of school access in June/July. Their guidencr allowed schools/ teachers to wash their hands of their pupils for 5.5 months and turned access to education into a lottery.

The government chose to keep playground locked up until 4th July.

The government choose to lock up public sports courts so a family can't find a hard open space to play on.

The government chose to delay childrens sports and activities until September- we managed 6 weeks of our Brownies in the park before it was logistically too cold and dark to continue that format, then tier changes/ lockdown forced us to fulltime Zoom again. Our Scouts never bothered. DS2 basically left Beavers at 6- he won't be back before his 8th birthday.

By diverting HVs into Covid care, they stole care from children (this policy has changed now)

Those were political choices and could have been made differently to avoid damage across a generation.

Ha ha, well then in that case I must obey! Still undecided on a name, and she's here in 3 hours, last gasp for suggestions?

No cat ear filters here because a. I don't know how and b. I look at my friends photos when they do it to their selfies and think "how old are you?" Lol. Going to do everyone's shopping first, got up specially early so I'm back in time, so excited!

Well said! I would like to add that I disliked the use of the word disordered.

It's not a mental disorder to become unhappy and anxious when everything you have ever known is snatched away from you and you are indirectly told it's your fault for existing and breathing and your teachers don't want to teach you anymore and every media out there is busy telling you are not a person but a disease spreader. Unhappiness and anxiety are understandable and normal reactions to psychological torture. And that is exactly what this is.

Hi DWP The vet should see your pusscat for this. Vets seem to have reinterpreted the rules around 'essential' - they've had to, this has gone on so long. One of my cats had her annual vaccination last week, and another having theirs on Tuesday. Another is booked in for a dental next week.

The process is very low risk. You ring from your car when you arrive, nurse comes out to car park to take the cat basket, you wait in the car. Vet rings you from the consulting room to chat, cat is brought back out to car park. You pay over the phone.

(I'm a lurker and occasional poster on here, thank you all for helping me retain my sanity. I've been enjoying the cat pics, I have five of my own.)

Iheartmysmart · 30/01/2021 08:57

@DWPmisery1972 That is definitely a welfare issue for your cat. Our vets is still working as usual although it’s a bit like how I’d imagine a drug deal works at drop off/pick up time.

That report is such sad reading. Any mention of mental health issues concerning children and teenagers seems to bring out a particularly nasty group of people shouting comments about snowflakes, it’s not WW2 and it’s just bad parenting. Makes me really angry.

Tortoise pictures please Smile

SirSamuelVimes · 30/01/2021 08:57

I agree about the vet, ours have been texting me about booking an appointment for my dog's boosters (which this has just reminded me to follow up!).

Bollss · 30/01/2021 10:03

Morning. Found you all after about two days!

SirSamuelVimes · 30/01/2021 10:06

Hi Genie!

LivinLaVidaLoki · 30/01/2021 10:37

Hi all! Just wanted to update DS did get a school place, however we have to reapply every week now.....
How on earth is that helpful to anyone?

ISaySteadyOn · 30/01/2021 10:40

Not at all.
