Welcome in ADs. Snuggle up hygge-style 'cause there ain't much going on out there for a while... except rain.

I haven't got a pussy of my own for gratuitous showing off, so I shall pretend to be Dr Evil with Mr Biggleswade Grin

@SirSamuelVimes we are a close bunch in the cul de sac, but two houses have been sold one to a couple her head of a department at the hospital but she joined in the socially distanced street party in June and drank us under the table, the other new neighbours have spoken to no-one in the three months they have been here, not even acknowledging a friendly wave.

There is a retired chief inspector in his nineties he and wife have carers.

smallandimperfectlyformed · 02/02/2021 21:54

I can't believe the culture we (not us here on these threads and actually I haven't seen it much in real life in my location) have encouraged where people are so determined to report their neighbours/people for doing such innocent things as going to see their families. I am glad that the police did not go into your neighbours house justasking111 and I am sorry that she has deteriorated so much recently.

justasking111 · 02/02/2021 22:05

A relative said the police are cruising using ANPR to check on people, the usual dog walk routes the parks are locked up so you have to go to beaches, the police are there too. You cannot expect dogs who are used to woodland, beaches, open spaces to pound the pavements on leads, these are not city dogs, they do not understand. One PCSO stopped a lone dog walker and read the riot act incorrectly, unfortunately for her it was someone with a better grasp of the law she accosted so was informed of the law chapter and verse.

To be honest the foot soldiers of police forces are having to obey orders from on high come what may. If you refuse to accept fines and fight it in court in two years, that is how far behind we are now you will probably find it is dismissed before it gets that far.

Buzzinwithbez · 02/02/2021 22:12

Justasking I'm stunned to hear about the heavy handed police presence in your area.
It felt like we very much had that in the first lockdown, but I haven't noticed the same this time. They seem to be on normal business when our and about rather than covid business.

Aztectrousers · 02/02/2021 22:14

Things are bad enough without neighbours snitching on each other. This makes me feel sick. Fair enough if it’s a big house party or rave but honestly it’s too much.

smallandimperfectlyformed · 02/02/2021 22:15

I can't believe how some police forces are acting. It makes me glad to live in London where the Metropolitan service are too busy to be bothering people like this! (Although recent news seems to have shown a lot of them breaking the rules themselves by having haircuts and breakfast in cafes!)

justasking111 · 02/02/2021 22:24

They are catching non mot, insurance, tax dodgers apparently. Our crime rate has dropped to nothing apart from violence which usually means of the domestic kind, that is worryingly high.

MrsEWeatherwax · 02/02/2021 22:31

Yes, discworld is like a well worn cardigan, that I wrap myself in.

The local rag has headlines suggesting that people are being done for non-local travel, but reading the articles they're actually done for some kind of insurance/ licence/ maintainence offence primarily and then the illegal gathering/ halfway across the country gets packaged in.

Why anyone would want to risk travelling halfway acrods the country to our notorious constabulary, I do not know!

We went a little further afield this weekend. The carpark was quiet enough. Nothing nasty should flag up with our car reg, and it's more of a semi-local attraction than one of the big flockers.

It's disappointing that some pathetic bastards woukd consider grassing up vulnerable neighbours recieving support. There's been plenty of time for people to get over themselves.

Ah I never thought I'd be glad enough that we have enough other crime that the police aren't going to bother someone who's clearly out for a walk.

rosettesforjill · 02/02/2021 23:31

We dropped DS off at PILs' house 250 miles away at the start of lockdown (legitimate childcare bubble which has allowed me as a key worker to keep working - as his school were only allowing children with two key worker parents to attend - so let your heads explode on that, dementors). Not a sign of police looking to catch out flouters. There were a few in the usual speed trap places but nothing exceptional and we weren't stopped. Hoping they were busy dealing with actual problems!

Mrsfrumble · 02/02/2021 23:47

@Jourdain11 I’m so sorry your DD is in such a state. I hope she’s more settled tonight.

Apparently it’s Child Mental Health Week. On the class call every morning DD’s lovely teacher asks them all to rate how they’re feeling on a scale of 1-5. Anyone who gives a 3 or less she asks if they want to talk about it. This morning about half the kids scored low and said they felt tired because they weren’t sleeping properly. They’re 7 and 8 year olds FFS! It’s so upsetting to think about what this is doing to them. DD is sleeping okay but cries 2 or 3 times a day about how she hates homeschool and she misses her friends.

MercyBooth · 03/02/2021 00:42

I remember reading Catmagic by Whitley Strieber many years ago when i was still a teenager. It was a long time ago and i seem to remember parts of it were very strange.

chocolatesweets · 03/02/2021 04:53

@NeedWineNow me too! I can look them in the eyes.

Seriouslymole · 03/02/2021 09:30

Morning all. I'm not coping today. Don't know why as the news isn't worse than usual but I keep fighting with everyone and crying, which isn't helping the mood in the house. I need to man the fuck up and get on with it.

CoffeeWithCheese · 03/02/2021 09:52

With the snitching - friend who lives on the local army base says it's got unbelievably backstabby on there of late - people kicking off if they see one of the kids out of the house, no one daring talk to anyone else for fear of being snitched on.

Our street tend to ignore the rules anyway but we've had new people move in who seem to be taking things very seriously in that they wear a mask whenever they're outside the house even in the street so no doubt that's going to change and we'll have the police coming down here (the access is so bad here you don't come down here unless you've got reason to - it's not even cul de sac level of being able to turn around)

Iheartmysmart · 03/02/2021 09:57

@Seriouslymole Flowers Same here! Not that that’s any consolation. Can’t remember the last time I felt happy if I’m honest.

Sometimes you get to the point where seeing a way forward is horribly difficult. Be kind to yourself.

110APiccadilly · 03/02/2021 10:12

Hope your DD has a better day today Jourdain.

I wonder whether there's any overlap between those who post on the Covid board that we'll have restrictions for the next hundred years, and those who post on the sleep board that you'll be waking up several times a night until your child is 5 or whatever. (Might be true, but is probably not what the sleep deprived mother needs to hear at that moment!)

amicissimma · 03/02/2021 10:24

I've always been one of those people who backs off from huggers and cheek-kissers.

Not any more. Those of you particularly struggling, I just want to rush round and wrap my arms around you.

amicissimma · 03/02/2021 10:25

Actually, I want to hug everybody. I shall have to be careful when this is over or I might get done for assault.

Evenstar · 03/02/2021 10:25

💐 @Seriouslymole same here this morning, I have cried so many times in the last 24 hours. I have had a lot of large unexpected bills and I haven’t been able to work since last March. I can’t see an end in sight to this awful half life, I am lonely, DH and DS have work and online college so some sort of contact with the outside world. The weather is vile and nowhere to go that is not outside.

Lifeinaonesie · 03/02/2021 10:32

Haven't been on for a while! I cannot believe the doom mongering on the main boards today! Especially considering the news has shifted to lots of good news about vaccines. Apparently we will all be in this for another year or more 'unfortunately' because we are not following a zero covid strategy Confused I feel like I'm in a parallel universe to these posters.

TheOrchidKiller · 03/02/2021 10:51

@Seriouslymole & others

  • you really don't need to "man up". It's a tough situation, you have a right to cry.

[quote TheOrchidKiller]@Seriouslymole & others

ISaySteadyOn · 03/02/2021 11:21

To everyone Flowers. @amicissimma, I am with you. I'd hug you back.

I find the zero Covid so irrational. At what cost? No one is willing to admit the lives that lockdown has cost, the knock on effects, the utter destruction of society. How many domestic violence deaths or suicide attempts or missed cancer diagnoses do there have to be? I suspect the answer is n + 1.

I am frustrated by it.
