Welcome in ADs. Snuggle up hygge-style 'cause there ain't much going on out there for a while... except rain.

I haven't got a pussy of my own for gratuitous showing off, so I shall pretend to be Dr Evil with Mr Biggleswade Grin

[quote MercyBooth]Comfort consumption.

Surge in comfort eating.

There's a farm near us that specialises in icecream. They have a bit of a petting farm there, so that was hit hard.

They've been great at diversifying. They launched doorstep deliveries and worked with other local independent food producers to provide a range of fresh basics. They've just launched ready meals, pre-prepared to heat up. Seeing little businesses adapt and thrive has been one of the little rays of light through the mess of this past year.

DH did some work with Unilever last spring. They were struggling to meet demand on domestic icecream sales with the good weather and people wanting a treat while hanging around outside.

@BogRollBOGOF its nice to see that some have been able to adapt like that.

Well, 12 hours later, codeine and oromorph later and I’ve just found out I do indeed have a complex fracture of the coccyx. Don’t fall down the stairs people, it hurts!!

Thank you for your well wishes everybody, the staff here have been unbelievably brilliant when so overworked and understaffed- I am so grateful and wish I could thank every single one of them over and over until I run out of breath. They have been amazing, truly.

I’m honestly relieved to have a diagnosis... I had so much anxiety becuase they didn’t know what was wrong for so long, a specialist had to look at my scans to see it because there’s no displacement of the bones. So my anxiety is now gone... even though I’ve got a buggered coccyx. It was the not knowing what was happening that was getting to me.

Lots of lovely drugs, pain management team and bloods in the morning- kids are with their dad; I’m impressed he actually stepped up last minute to look after his children so their mother could go to hospital- very out of character for him 😂

Lots of love to you all ADs, I’m going to try and get some rest and hopefully I can rejoin you properly when I’m sorted out- once again thank you for your support and lots of socially distanced hugs you lot Flowers nighty night xx

LivinLaVidaLoki · 02/02/2021 06:51

Hope you managed to rest OK @DWPmisery1972

Just seen that Sturgeon is expected to announce schools back in Feb today (staggered I think), with Drakeford on the news at the weekend saying that he wants a phased return after half term wonder if that will put pressure on Boris for English schools?

Seriouslymole · 02/02/2021 06:52

@DWPmisery1972 - ouch. That sounds horrible. Glad it's being sorted. Rest well.

Hello all, it's been a few days. I've tried to stay away for a bit. I needed the space. But I'm back for support! I feel like I'm trying to keep everyone in the house OK at the moment whilst feeling not terribly OK myself. I feel like I'm the guardian of everyone's mental health here. DS is struggling and aged 12 I don't blame him. His counsellor cancelled due to ill health for his fortnightly session this week. It can't be helped but it's just come at a bad time. DH, when I explained how I felt has now gone into a massive decline because he does really struggle with MH issues and I have now made this worse (he didn't actually say that but that's the impression). I just get so cross with him, which is deeply unfair but I just think oh for goodness sake man up and get on with it. I wish he was "stronger" and then hate myself for feeling like that.

Anyway, all that not withstanding, I did my first session at the vaccination centre last night and it was quite nice to do. Everyone was very friendly and grateful. I was offered the chance to wait behind for a spare vaccination and turned it down and no-one seemed bothered, which is great.

ISaySteadyOn · 02/02/2021 06:53

So glad you know. I think you're right. Not knowing is the worst.

And thanks all you ADs for the parenting help. I just want him to be all right. He is, if course, a good lad with lots of love in him and he is only small. It's so hard for the children, isn't it? Wish he could meet all yours.

Someday we really should do an AD festival Smile.

bakingcupcakes · 02/02/2021 07:44

I'd love to come to AD festival!

@DWPmisery1972 I hope you feel some improvement today. I'm so glad you've been seen and got answers even if it does sound like it'll take a while to heal.

I'm hopeless at parenting. I thought I was quite good until covid. DS has a temper. My mum says it comes from his dad (who he's never met Hmm) but I think some of it's from me. I get very cross very quickly when he smacks my glasses off. I always mean to be calm and not shouty but it's hard.

Speaking of businesses diverging. A place local to us does nice gin but they've branched into sanitiser/anti bac gels as well since this has happened which I think is quite clever thinking.

BogRollBOGOF · 02/02/2021 08:17

I'm definitely a better parent when I get a bit of personal space!

DS2 always has had marsupial-like qualities, add in no social contact with anyone beyond the household...
There's always someone next to me or leaning on me!

OP posts:
ISaySteadyOn · 02/02/2021 08:29

Marsupial describes DS to a T. Though it is mostly DH he leaps on yelling 'Huggie!'

110APiccadilly · 02/02/2021 08:40

"someday we really should do an ad festival."

I keep thinking how good it would be if I could just pop round to one of your houses and offer to swap - you can hold DD for a bit while I give your DC a maths lesson. Then I remember that it that was allowed, it wouldn't be necessary!

Bollss · 02/02/2021 08:50

Morning all.

Not a good day here. Someone else has died, not of covid and very young. I'm sad and angry all at once.

And also was going to get some shit done to sell the house but there's a foot of snow outside so ds is off school and I can't imagine I'll get much done. Sigh.

ISaySteadyOn · 02/02/2021 09:13
Flowers

A foot of snow, huh? 🎶Do you want to build a snowman?🎶

Iheartmysmart · 02/02/2021 09:14

I’m an appallingly lax parent and have the view that if you don’t need to claim on the house insurance or call an ambulance then crack on and see what happens.

Yes please to a festival!

Ouch @DWPmisery1972 that sounds horrible. Can they do anything or is it painkillers and rest while it heals?

Sorry @TrustTheGeneGenie Flowers That is rotten news.

I would take you up on that! I hate trying to teach DD maths and I love a tiny baby to snuggle!
SirSamuelVimes · 02/02/2021 09:28

@TrustTheGeneGenie I'm so sorry. Flowers Please don't feel like today needs to be a productive day - chuck DS out in the snow and give yourself a day off.

@DWPmisery1972 do glad you got seen properly. Hope that you are on the mend soon.

Wouldn't mind the next to or leaning on - but the fucking elbows! The child is ALL elbows, the dog is ALL elbows.
BogRollBOGOF · 02/02/2021 11:06

Elbows, knees. This child has no padding!

It's the kind of day where I've gone off curriculun. DS2 was clutching his cuddly parrot from the zoo. He's now been educated about Monty Python's dead parrot speech. I'm calling that English for its enriching use of vocabulary. Grin

Social, moral, spiritual and cultural education! (Well, definitely social and cultural, maybe follow it up with The Life of Brian for moral and spiritual Grin)
BogRollBOGOF · 02/02/2021 11:10

Eurgh, he's now jiggling with excitement, tapping away at minecraft.
Wobble wobble, nudge, nudge.

I think DS1 would be up for the Life of Brian.
Taking him to church after watching Good Omens was interesting with a child with inconventional social filters... at least he's too shy to blurt things out too loud!

@SirSamuelVimes so true, my reading habits have been upended, I buy special offers on my kindle, keep skipping over stuff I bought a year ago and go for fantasy every time. Into witchy mystical stuff now.

TooManyPlatesInMotion · 02/02/2021 14:14

@DWPmisery1972 I am glad you got a diagnosis and that this has eased your anxiety. Very much hope you feel better soon - it sounds very painful.
