I can live anywhere in the Uk...

... can you help me find a 3 or 4 bed detached house with some character (and large garden or land) for £250,000. I know it’s asking a lot! We would like something different and not new build and it can be rural, but not in a dreadful area!

I am irish but hatching similar plans. Blown away by carlingford online, never been though. Im restless atm. Dream8ng of luxury. If my liffe is 100% at home i need a much nicer home.

If youd consider NI look at Derry. So near to sligo, Donegal, westport. You could live in the uk but drive to many lovely places.

Agree @Sp1ke3 I’m in Northumberland too & you would get 3/4 bed detached with land where I am.... (south west Northumberland)

That property at Drigg is literally next door to a radioactive waste dump @frogswimming

[quote lurker101]Your money will go much further in most of Northern Ireland than the rest of the U.K. here’s an example of what you can get for just over budget (so may come in around budget post-negotiations)

Wow this is really similar to my house except it's a lot more modern on the inside, it's worth double that! Maybe I need to move again...

Thanks for aller the suggestions!

Very hard to buy 3 /4 bed WITH land for £250k in a lot of Scotland. You need to factor in the “offers over” stuff.
We’ve been looking and the 3 houses we liked enough to offer on have each gone for around 20% over survey value: the highest one was valued at £490k and sold for £620k, 3 beds with an acre (mostly of bog!). Obviously Scotland is pretty big, so depends where.

TierFourTears · 28/01/2021 18:04

Might go over budget with the extra land, but Berwick

What's your sticking points OP?
Less bedrooms, more character, and big garden?
Newer build, more bedrooms, less land?
Detached/semi detached?
Less rural but good transport links?

maddy68 · 28/01/2021 18:29

Wales, Northumberland Scotland.

None of these actually match your full brief but might give u some ideas of what's on the must list.

Garden itself isn’t big but it’s literally across the road from an enormous beautiful park (Beveridge Park)

Character & a large garden or land come at a premium pretty much anywhere, even in what are considered cheaper areas.
Don’t even think about the Lake District as someone suggested. I grew up there but couldn’t afford to live there once I wanted to buy.
Keep in mind that buying in Scotland is completely different to Wales or England.
