Hi
Myself and husband are trying to pick a boys name but cannot agree on the name Elhan which I adore and is my only choice.
I'm due in 3 days, Can I have everyones honest opinion do you love it or hate it?
I won't be offended 😜

If you can’t agree find another name - solved! Do you have other choices? Unless there is a cultural or familial link then it sounds preposterous to lumber a child with a name that is going to cause same amount of questions as this post had generated (times rest of their life)

Ginfordinner · 27/01/2021 22:16

Or people in authority will assume he is called Ethan because you forgot to cross the T.

I agree that he will have a lifetime of correcting people.

CormoranStrike · 27/01/2021 22:16

I thought typo for Ethan - sorry!

Now I know how it sounds it reminds me of Elon Musk.

user1493494961 · 27/01/2021 22:20

Have you made up the spelling?

3JsMa · 27/01/2021 22:22

I like it,sounds good and I like versatility of it as it suits a child/adult at any stage of their life. It's not too infantile or too harsh sounding.
My son's friend is called Ilhan (pron.eelhan,h remains).

nocoolnamesleft · 27/01/2021 22:22

Sorry, I also assumed it was a typo for Ethan, and was coming on to say Ethan is a great name.

peanutbuthead · 27/01/2021 22:32

Eel-Un?
Ell-un?

Elly for short?

Missingthebridegene · 27/01/2021 22:33

Yes it sounds girly to me. What names does DP like? X

Claramam · 27/01/2021 22:39

It's pronounced elan (the h is silent). Almost the same pronunciation as Elon.

Yes that's right, what's your verdict? 😁

I have had a lifetime of correcting my name. It’s a pain in the arse.

Kids are individuals by having a personality and character. You don’t need to give them a “unique” name that no one can pronounce or spell.

yesbueno · 27/01/2021 22:41

It’d be a bit weird to basically call your son Ellen, yes

HeyGirlHeyBoy · 27/01/2021 22:45

Ee sound like Elon? Or e like elephant? I quite like the former. The latter sounds like Alan with an /e/ at the start. Best of luck.

LetItGoGo · 27/01/2021 22:47

I really like the name Alan.

Too soon?

Kilcaple · 27/01/2021 22:50

But it doesn’t matter how much you or a hundred internet randoms like it, if your husband doesn’t — you both need to agree.

CormoranStrike · 27/01/2021 22:51

I love Allan with two Ls

littlemisslozza · 27/01/2021 22:53

Ellen. No, sorry.

ZenNudist · 27/01/2021 22:54

Terrible. Lifetime of being called Ellen, even by people who aren't taking the kids.

Yes also to misspelled Ethan...

ZenNudist · 27/01/2021 22:54

Taking the piss even...

Sheleg · 27/01/2021 22:54

Dreadful.

CheesePleaz · 27/01/2021 22:54

I love the original Lotus Elan.

hopsalong · 27/01/2021 22:55

Loathe. Most bad names have one redeeming feature -- they sound good but the spelling's crazy, they have one good association but several bad ones. This name has no redeeming features. Please don't do it!

Crookairroad · 27/01/2021 22:57

Sorry OP, I don’t like it. He will forever be called Ellen and probably mercilessly teased about it at school.

TildaTurnip · 27/01/2021 22:57

So it sounds like Ellen. I love the name Ellen for a girl but Elhan (my phone turned this to Elias and Elijah) is not something I think anyone would be pleased to be called.

Crookairroad · 27/01/2021 22:59

My iPad predictive text kicked in with Eleanor.
