I’ve had my second vaccine and I feel horrendous

Absolutely bloody awful. Exactly like the flu. I had no problem after my first and I’m very pro vaccine so this is not a “don’t get the vaccine” post. Just be aware you might need a day off afterwards.

Had the vaccine at 8ish last night

  • woke up around 3 with a headache
  • woke up again at 6 with severe muscle aches all over
  • fever then chills, fever then chills on and off all day
  • vertigo and the room spinning when I turn over in bed
  • appetite is fine, I’ve still been hungry
  • very sore arm (same as the first time)

I’m hoping it’s going to be gone by tomorrow morning but I’m feeeling bloody sorry for myself

I've only had dose 1 and have such a sore arm. Haven't experienced it before, and I have intramuscular injections every 8 weeks for b12 which are apparently pretty nasty.

OverTheRainbowLiesOz · 24/01/2021 18:43

Ah - same as my Dad. He has only had the first one so far.

I hope you feel better soon. It's worth it.

Veryverycalmnow · 24/01/2021 18:43

Were you warned of any side effects when it was administered? Hope you feel better soon.

ihatethecold · 24/01/2021 18:45

Have you had Covid before op?
I’ve heard the side effects are worse if you have.

Lipz · 24/01/2021 18:46

Sounds awful. Hope you're OK tomorrow. I did watch a programme interviewing people from the trials and most of them said they experienced these things. They all said after 24 hours they were back to normal. It'll be worth it, take it easy, relax as much as you can and take paracetamol.

ShirleyPhallus · 24/01/2021 18:46

I’m not sure how useful this post is tbh. I get that you feel unwell and wish you better but the last thing we need is people looking for excuses not to be vaccinated

LyraBelaqua · 24/01/2021 18:47

I had the same experience as you. I felt so poorly with a raging temperature. It was gone by the next day.

LyraBelaqua · 24/01/2021 18:49

And I’d definitely do it all again! I do now advise everyone I vaccinate that this is a possibility.

Timeforabiscuit · 24/01/2021 18:49

I disagree @ShirleyPhallus, bouncing back after 24 hours is reasonable in my view, and I'd want a heads up and managers of staff to be well aware too.

TheChippendenSpook · 24/01/2021 18:50

I had the fiuesr AstraZeneca vaccine yesterday and I feel dreadful. Have a temp of 39.2 andy body hurts all over. It's definitely worth it bit my God I feel terrible.

blossomrsa · 24/01/2021 18:50

Make sure it is reported to the yellow card scheme. You have had an adverse reaction. These reports help vaccines be monitored and improved.

Timeforabiscuit · 24/01/2021 18:50

And thank you @LyraBelaqua! Please keep jabbing :)

TheChippendenSpook · 24/01/2021 18:50

First and 'but

I find it helpful. It's good to know what you might be in for from "real" people rather than generic medical advice. It won't put me off when my turn comes.
saraclara · 24/01/2021 18:52

My daughter (a nurse) needed a day off work after the Pfizer vaccine. But she'd already had Covid, and she was told by the medics on her ward that her reaction was probably due to her immune system already being primed.

hashbrownsandwich · 24/01/2021 18:52

My colleagues had the pszier as felt similar, we are all age ranges from 30-65. Some people said they were bed bound for 48 hours after having it, some had chronic migraines, others had no issues at all.

ChateauMargaux · 24/01/2021 18:53

I think it's important that people know that these are the side effects, so that they can plan for the possibility that they might be unwell for 24 to 48 hours, so they know this is a common side effect and that it disappears quickly and so that managers can contingency plan if a high percentage of their staff are likely to need a day off after vaccination. Thanks for sharing OP.

AdditionalCharacter · 24/01/2021 18:53

I had the first one (Phyzer) yesterday and my arm was slightly sore but gradually got worse. Today I am aching all over, pulse is racing and temp is in the 38s.
I had COVID in October, and I'm CEV so trying to remain calm and not read too much into it.

Justa47 · 24/01/2021 18:54

@Gazelley

Two days and you will be fine

Dee261 · 24/01/2021 18:54

I find it very useful and to read someone’s experience of it will help me relax a bit more when the time comes for me to get the vaccine and to know that these effects are normal or well a lot have suffered them like the OP.

I hope you feel better soon OP and have managed to have a good meal to make up for feeling so rubbish after being vaccinated Flowers.
Please let us know how your feeling later or we’ll hopefully you manage to get a good sleep and check in with us tomorrow to let us know how your feeling x

PinkTinsel99 · 24/01/2021 18:56

Thank you for letting us know that this reaction is a possibility. It’s good to be forewarned and won’t be so scary if it happens to any of my family when we have our vaccines.
Hope you’re feeling better soon.

marshmallowfluffy · 24/01/2021 18:56

I appreciate your post so when I get the vaccine I am mentally prepared.

Hope you feel better soon ThanksThanks
