Anyone own roller blades as an adult?

I'm seriously considering roller blades!
I need some joy in my life and think they would be great for whizzing after the kids on their scooters.

Mad?

Not mad. I have a pair! They are really fast though so I have to be careful

MrsPnut · 23/01/2021 19:22

Not inlines but I have quad skates. I learnt to skate again after DD took up roller derby.

Bluewavescrashing · 23/01/2021 19:23

I want to go to a roller disco 🕺

Ohdoleavemealone · 23/01/2021 19:24

Hmmm maybe quad skates would be safer?
They seem expensive?

I bought my own skates when the kids were young and going to a rink regularly - not blades though.

MrsPnut · 23/01/2021 19:29

Rookie Artistics or Moxie Rainbows are both under £100 and are saleable if you don’t get on with them.
Roller girl gang have great skating tutorials as well as a shop.

I don't think I would spend more than £50 on them as to be honest I don't know how often I would use them.

Is there a second hand market for them?

OP posts:
Eloisedublin123 · 23/01/2021 19:40

I do! They’re dangerous 🤣

Decathlon do adult quad skates for about 40-50 quid. I love mine. DS scoots and I skate.

Definitely a second hand market, what size are you?
Ohdoleavemealone · 23/01/2021 19:53

@MrsPnut a size 4. Just been looking on facebook market place and there are a few at around £20 but now I cannot decide between blades on skates!

I have quad skates ... terrible in them.. but I love them ❤️

BlueThistles · 23/01/2021 20:00

blades are not for me either 🤣

Toilenstripes · 23/01/2021 20:02

I always get knocked knees when I wear them, otherwise I bust my arse.

Ohdoleavemealone · 23/01/2021 20:04

Hmmm, leaning more towards skates then as a beginner I think!

Perfectly acceptable to chase after small children on scooters in the park. Far better than the knobhead dad who goes around our local park on a unicycle looking like an utter twat.

That is hilarious!

Yep, had a brain fart 15 years ago. Ex DH had been rushed to hospital with pneumonia at the same time as my BF was in the same hospital having just given birth to my wonderful God daughter who was diagnosed with Downs Syndrome. Emotions were running high and I was beyond stressed. I have no idea why I thought it would be a good idea to buy two pairs of inline skates , one for me and one for him. He spent his birthday in hospital wheezing like a pro and I arrived with cards, cake and a beautifully wrapped pair of inline skates, size 45......Grin

MyView2 · 23/01/2021 20:36

I do, in fact I was just out today in a new pair for the first time in years. I’m very slow according to my ten year old daughter who lapped me but it was good fun all the same. I got mine from Decathlon, not too expensive and quite good quality.

maybelou · 23/01/2021 20:38

Do it, OP! My housemates just both got a pair and I've gotten a skateboard - we've all decided to try something new this year GrinWe're all pretty shakey so far but it's fun to learn!

Just make sure you get some decent knee/elbow/wrist guards and a helmet!

edwinbear · 23/01/2021 21:16

I had some for my birthday a couple of years ago. First time I went out, I pushed off, confidentially down my road, which has a slight hill, but hey, I can ice skate and this is no different right? Except it isn’t, I couldn’t work out how to stop and promptly fell into the gutter. Classy. They now live under the bed. Grin

StandardLampski · 23/01/2021 22:03

I have quads.... its take my daughter skating ( oh we miss it . Sktr ribknobv been covidded) but also go with a mate to an adult session at night Grin

CurlyMango · 23/01/2021 22:52

Have quads and then blades. Blades are in fact easier. Get protection and watch your coex (bum bone) 🤕

purpleme12 · 23/01/2021 22:59

No but really quite want to try heelys after seeing my daughter in them!
