AirPods - are they worth it?

Just that really - just had a drunken conversation with my sister who said she didn't know she needed her AirPods until she had them. I have some cheap Bluetooth headphones which are a bit uncomfortable and are not great - I can't leave the room without them cutting out. Should I invest in AirPods?

I got my AirPods when O2 were doing 20% student discount and I love them. I had a knock off pair before and they were so uncomfortable - there was a rough seam that actually cut the inside of my ear.

My AirPods are so, so comfortable. They connect to my MacBook so I use them for Zoom meetings, plus they stay nice and snug in my ears when walking/exercising.

@ MrsDThomas yes anchor ones :-)

I also have an anchor soundcore bluetooth speaker which I use for listening to e.g. audio books etc at night so I don’t fall asleep with headphones in. Cost me £21 but I believe they’re down to between £17/£19 now.

Incidentally my DP was looking at the samsung earbuds and the new ones due out this week are £219. Shock so not cheaper than the airpods by any stretch.

I'm currently using Aukey ear buds from Amazon - £30 - ok but only really because I don't have to put up with any wires.

I have always said that the AirPods are a ridiculous price, however reading this thread I am beginning to feel differently (& I know that Apple products are amazing)

Now considering spending £249......

@Oblahdeeoblahdoe

These are the ones I got:

earbuds wowcher

My ipad asks if I want to connect my airpods Grin (although is listed as i10 in the bluetooth list) and lists them alongside my pencil in the charge section, connects with no issues to my samsung phone and iPad. Not bad for 20 quid!

MrsDThomas · 24/01/2021 18:20

So there are Anker snd Anchor! Right, off to have a look at them too. Thank you

Ah, thank you. I'm going to try them first 😉

Just ordered some from John Lewis - DH is pissing on my parade asking why I want them when we have the cheap ones?

Well it’s pretty evident from this thread that apple’s marketing strategy is successful.

people saying “well it must be good because it’s apple,” when actually Apple hike up the prices of their products so much and never have sales because people are so prepared to part with however much it takes for an apple product.

Incidentally, I am an apple user, I have an iPhone and an Apple Watch, but their prices have gone up so incredibly much recently that they’re starting to price people out of the market, so they encourage them to get into debt to e.g. afford their latest iPhone/iPad/mac...

I know at least 4 people who have had to send airpods back on numerous occasions because they fail. If it was any other brand people would avoid them. If it was a cheaper brand people would say “well, they’re cheap so I won’t buy them.” But because it’s apple people stil pay the £150+ for headphones which are just as likely to fail as £20 ones... because they’re apple.

Also, doesn’t Apple have one of the highest rates of suicide among employees in the world?

Xiaoxiong · 25/01/2021 11:48

I went through two pairs of cheap ones in 4 months before applying the Captain Sam Vimes "Boots" theory and buying Airpods (from Richer Sounds, which is employee owned, if that matters).

I've had them a year now with no issues at all, they actually fit my ears without falling out when I smile, they have the best and most reliable bluetooth pairing to both my phone and my lenovo thinkpad laptop, as well as a MUCH better sound quality. So I don't think I've fallen for any marketing hype, thanks.
