This quiz is driving me nuts- apparently it's possible?

Can any of you work it out?

This quiz is driving me nuts- apparently it's possible?

@bytheriogrande yes. Hence the second part of my comment. Although as I say I wouldn't have worked that out.

I agree that its Boswell. I hated that thread.

@Boopear

Have rethought Blush is no 4 =1 and no 6 = -1. Average still 0 as is sum. 0 divided by -1 is -1. Still not sure about no 10 but has to be 0!
No 0 divided by -1 is 0
Herdwick · 22/01/2021 23:40

Boswell

Don't read it, it will ruin your life.

Herdwick · 22/01/2021 23:49

It's an infinite loop.

question 4 says how many have the same answer as this one

9 other questions have the answer 0/false. So if the answer to question 4 ISNT 0/False then it is the only question to have an answer that isn't 0/False. Thus then making it actually 0.

If the answer to question 4 IS 0, then the 9 other answers are also 0/false. Making the answer 'including this one' 10, but...

If the answer to question 4 is then accepted to be 10 then it is still the only answer that isn't 0/false and therefore is no longer the same answer as the other 9 questions so when you again ask the question how many have the same answer as this one the answer is still 0.

Or perhaps more simply, both parts of the question cannot be true and therefore is

FALSE

Changemaname1 · 22/01/2021 23:53

My brain hurts just looking at that 😂 good luck op !

Bellyflab · 22/01/2021 23:56

So DH has gone to bed and seems quite satisfied he has the answer. I'm still stumped but the zero thing makes sense. Maybe my Brian will work better in the morning. Normally does!

OP posts:
MindGrapes · 23/01/2021 00:13

Look after your Brian, OP...
Your DH is Boswelling you - the only response is to Boswell him back with the original Boswell...

NotDavidTennant · 23/01/2021 00:15

It doesn't say anywhere that you're meant to treat FALSE answers as equaling 0 and 0 answers as equaling FALSE.

PamwichShilling · 23/01/2021 00:47

I just looked at the OP of the Boswell thread, couldn't be arsed to read it all but was it ever concluded? The only thing that sprung to mind was if you say post office like Bosoffice. "And he walked up the boz office steps".

I hope you work this one out op (or your DH shares), the zero/false thing seems likely though.

Bellyflab · 23/01/2021 00:57

I looked though Boswell too. Got bored of this and spent half an hour reading it. Interested to know how it turns lit but not enough to read the whole thread!

There was no answer to the riddle/joke.
Gremlinsateit · 23/01/2021 04:01

I think I have got it. Would you like my answer or prefer to keep puzzling? Everyone is on the right track, if I am right :)

drspouse · 23/01/2021 07:13

Is question 4 badly worded or must it be 1 or more somehow?

NoPupIsTooSmall · 23/01/2021 07:38

With the Boswell thread, on the last page there's a link to the second Boswell thread and on the first page of that there's a summary of the theories. I don't know what happened after that but don't think it was ever solved.

As for this quiz, no idea at all. Hats off to anyone who understands it I couldn't even really get the premise of it. My brain doesn't work for things like this, but I'll send it to DH and it will occupy him for approx 45 seconds while he solves it...

NoPupIsTooSmall · 23/01/2021 07:39

www.mumsnet.com/Talk/am_i_being_unreasonable/3442896-I-NEED-MORE-ABOUT-BOS-WELL-solve-a-riddle-part-two

Hopefully this link works - it's the second Boswell thread with a good summary of theories.

mynameiscalypso · 23/01/2021 07:56

I might send this to my 95 year old grandfather. He is far more likely to get it than anyone else I know.

Boopear · 23/01/2021 08:16

Omg this is still going on. I actually woke up in the house thinking about this. My be theory (and yes, 0/-1 is 0..Blush. It was late. Wine was had) is that the question to no 10 is arbitrary- it is what is needed to make the equation work. If the answer to 4 is 1 and the answer to 10 is -1 it works (i hope!)

Boopear · 23/01/2021 08:17

*New not be

WentworthPrison · 23/01/2021 08:18

Life is too short Grin

Hazelnutlatteplease · 23/01/2021 08:24

Number 4 is a word puzzle

How many answers are the same as this 1 (as in this number one here), including this 1
As zero is not the same as one, and none of the other answers are the same as one the answer is 0

Bellyflab · 23/01/2021 11:12

@Gremlinsateit yes please!

OP posts:
Bellyflab · 23/01/2021 11:14

Thanks for all the ideas. I'm still flummoxed by it even when you explain it! Defo the menopause is affecting my brain capacity. Not used to being so confused by a puzzle!

OP posts:
nillygin · 23/01/2021 11:20

I’ve got the answer if anyone is interested 😁

nillygin · 23/01/2021 11:20

No zeros involved 😜
