I'm going to get handed my coat and escorted out of here but I'm going to say it anyway.
I do not get people's obsession with drinking!
I don't drink, I don't mind the taste (except ginEnvy), I just don't NEED it if you get me.
I dont particularly like feeling drunk but even just to have one or two drinks doesn't appeal to me...its calories that I don't need and it actually does nothing beneficial for the human body.
All I ever see people on here post is how after homeschooling they need Gin Envy..why? How's it going to help? Why do so many of you need to put a substance in your body in order to feel good? Why not smoke a blunt instead? Why alcohol?
Are you boring without it? Can't you have fun without a drink?

I seriously cannot understand people who need a 'coffee' smells and tastes like dog shit and makes your breath foul.

Pass me the gin.

KarensChoppyBob · 23/01/2021 09:20

I feel sorry for people that feel they need alcohol to dance 💃.

It's a natural human thing to want to do ...

Same with sex.

Is it because it’s all people can do at the moment ? I think it’s a way of expressing they’ve had a bad day / it hasn’t gone well

@JessicaHyde

Why do people like you suffer with such a lack of empathy or imagination?
The lack of imagination is a massive issue with the human race or should I say.....the lack of being able to see outside of your own world.

OP....You don’t like to drink and some people do. I hate baked beans but most people do. I don’t think ‘I don’t understand how anyone can like them...’. It’s narrow minded and that sort of thinking is literally why there’s been world wars.

Open your mind. Be more ‘I respect that some people (a lot!) like a gin and like to joke about it and I do not’.

@CorianderBee can you re read my posts? Maybe you'll see that I don't smoke blunts Hmm. I just said why is that not seen acceptable and gin is? Doesn't matter if its legal or not really it gives you the exact same effect.
Wtf is it with people replying having not read the actual post properly? Maybe lay of the alcohol?

@Throwaway99 nah, I like it up here thanks

Catwoman123 · 23/01/2021 13:26

@TrimmedMyBush it's not that I don't get why some people like it, it's the relying on it to get through every situation in life.
What's that say about a person if you can't get through your day (good or bad) without putting poison in your body?)

Yesss! Love this thread, completely agree with you OP.
Can't get my head around the fact so many people wake up in the morning, already counting down the hours till 'wine o clock'. Cringe. And their kids will be growing up thinking the need to drink each and every night is completley normal, and alcohol is how adults 'wind down'. It's sad.

Anyway, how many deaths has smoking a blunt caused compared to alcohol?

TitInATrance · 23/01/2021 13:32

I used to drink, quite a lot actually, but only with company. At some point I found I could have more fun sober, and completely lost interest - I will have a glass or two of wine at dinner if pressed, but just as soon not. I absolutely don’t get why you would any more, I like my clear head and quick reactions.

I’m not sure if this coincided with the menopause. Happened around the same time.

MrsFluffyMuff · 23/01/2021 13:34

Go into A&E of a night and it's certainly not weed smokers physically and verbally attacking staff and wasting NHS time while they projectile vomit and resist help.

This.

GeidiPrimes · 23/01/2021 13:44

Yes, a life lesson my parents instilled in me at a young age.

I have to say this made me Grin - my parents tried their best to instill this, encouraging me to drink their alcohol from age 3(!) because they found it funny to see an infant off it's face. I had a stint as an alcoholic but don't drink now.

OP, if you can't see why people are using more of an addictive substance that makes you feel better during the year we've had then I sympathise with your lack of imagination.

lifeinlimbo2020 · 23/01/2021 13:48

@JabbyMcJabface

I really can’t understand those people who need to have coffee every day. Especially people who go out to get coffee. I mean can’t you function without the drug?
Haha. Same. It actually annoys me all these people walking around with take out cups of it. Why?
LApprentiSorcier · 23/01/2021 13:55

Alcohol induces a very pleasant sensation of relaxation, for a short period of time, after which it either wears off or, if you continue drinking, turns into the perhaps less pleasant sensation of being drunk.

I'm a drinker. I'm doing Dry January and I hoped to feel a significant improvement in my wellbeing from abstaining, but if I'm honest, it hasn't materialised. I only usually drink at weekends, so perhaps I was hoping for too much. I'm not sure whether I will continue 'dry' beyond January. On the plus side, I haven't missed it that much, but I did like the feeling of winding down with some wine on a Friday night.

Bbq1 · 23/01/2021 13:57

Nation of functioning /non aware people with a drink problem.

MellowBird85 · 23/01/2021 14:08

Never seen an OP froth so much over a complete non-issue 🙄

Bbq1 · 23/01/2021 14:09

Op, I agree with you. Alcohol consumption is so normalised in society. Every TV programme etc it's seen as desirable /funny to be drunk. What winds me up most is when women says stuff to their children like "Wine is mummy's special/magic juice" or worse the children say it. Eurgh. Like you said op, if a "mummy" said "Ooh, nearly cocaine a clock, time to smoke some of mummy's special crack cocaine" everybody would be reporting them to ss.

Catwoman123 · 23/01/2021 14:49

@MellowBird85 who's frothing? I'm finding the defensiveness hilarious.

@GeidiPrimes it's not just this year though it's always been this way..the prosecco jokes from 2 years ago and now the gin jokes.

@CarolVordermansBum yes, when my best friends 5 year old daughter plays with her dolls she'll put them to bed in their cot and then she will sigh put her feet up and say, I need my wine! Blush

And sorry I forgot who made rhe comment about A&E but quite right, it's full of alcoholics every night. I dont think weed is much better really but that's exactly my point..none of it is doing anything good for you so why do it? And whys is so normalised

OP posts:
LST · 23/01/2021 14:51

@Bbq1 hardly comparable are they... a glass a wine and crack?

Catwoman123 · 23/01/2021 14:51

@GeidiPrimes I'm sorry you went through that and well done for coming back from it, it can't have been easy.

OP posts:
DioneTheDiabolist · 23/01/2021 14:57

It's all to do with the dopamine hit, be it from alcohol, weed, cake, scratchcards or exercise. Different people get it from different things, but it all boils down to the dopamine reward.

CarolVordermansBum · 23/01/2021 15:00

CarolVordermansBum yes, when my best friends 5 year old daughter plays with her dolls she'll put them to bed in their cot and then she will sigh put her feet up and say, I need my wine! blush

Bloody hell. Nothing like conditioning them from a young age eh.

Bbq1 · 23/01/2021 15:02

@LST The point I'm making is how normalised and acceptable it is to consume an addictive, potentially extremely damaging chemical on a daily basis, then laugh about it. Therein lies the problem because people don't understand just how damaging alcohol can be and it can absolutely cause as many issues as smoking crack. Also, it might start with a glass of wine but often it doesn't stop there. It's so normalised but if people normalised drug use all he'll would let loose. O

Catwoman123 · 23/01/2021 15:05

@DioneTheDiabolist that's right but what I dont get is why its seen as ok when it's bad for you.
I exercise and get my dopamine hit that way and it's extremely beneficial to my body and mind, even if jts just a little walk.
