I'm going to get handed my coat and escorted out of here but I'm going to say it anyway.
I do not get people's obsession with drinking!
I don't drink, I don't mind the taste (except ginEnvy), I just don't NEED it if you get me.
I dont particularly like feeling drunk but even just to have one or two drinks doesn't appeal to me...its calories that I don't need and it actually does nothing beneficial for the human body.
All I ever see people on here post is how after homeschooling they need Gin Envy..why? How's it going to help? Why do so many of you need to put a substance in your body in order to feel good? Why not smoke a blunt instead? Why alcohol?
Are you boring without it? Can't you have fun without a drink?

Like, I don't drink, unless it's an occasion tbh, I don't really get the point, but it certainly doesn't make me this angry that others do 😬

SlopesOff · 22/01/2021 19:28

@Christmashope19

I’m with you Catwoman Don’t get it at all But I think we are in the minority
Another one here in the minority.

@Theunamedcat, a brown café is a place where you can legally smoke weed with like-minded souls, usually in Amsterdam. I would like to have them in the UK. Keeps everything calmer, more controlled, less criminalised.

🤣🤣 best laugh I've had all day.

Thunderfoot · 22/01/2021 19:34

And me. I don't see the point in alcohol.

Catwoman123 · 22/01/2021 19:34

@EmilyInParis I'm not angry I just don't get it.
Is it just people being brought up to think its necessary to have a drink to have fun?

Not one of you drinkers have answered me though?
Do you ever have fun without it?

Well, good for you. Whatever floats your particular boat. Smile

CatRamsey · 22/01/2021 19:35

I get it OP. I will have a drink on a night out in the olden days when that was allowed but I don't get the obsession with it. In the summer when restrictions here were that alcohol couldn't be sold my colleague was absolutely aghast and kept asking everyone what on she was supposed to drink with her meal!

LaceyBetty · 22/01/2021 19:36

Yes, a life lesson my parents instilled in me at a young age. Confused

cherrypop86 · 22/01/2021 19:37

Some things are not a need, they are there for enjoyment. I have maybe a bottle a week, I enjoy it so I have it.

samanthawashington · 22/01/2021 19:38

Totally agree. I find it beyond childish to make such a fuss about needing a drink, wine oclock, 'finished the bottle'..... comments.

LaceyBetty · 22/01/2021 19:40

I don't see the "point" in a lot of things some people find pleasure in but I don't need to criticise.

Notashandyta · 22/01/2021 19:41

You drinkers GrinGrin

Notashandyta · 22/01/2021 19:42

I will answer you o bossy one!

Yes I have fun without it, often. Fun with too.

Think you will find that's most of us.

Hope that enlightens you Flowers

OrangeBananaFish · 22/01/2021 19:43

I'm not a big drinker, but I'm also not tea total. I only drink on occasion and do enjoy it when I do. I too don't get the gin jokes or pass me the wine comments, but I wouldn't say it gets me angry or upset. I just scroll on by.

BettyAndVeronica · 22/01/2021 19:44

I don't 'not drink' like it's a thing or an issue, I just very rarely choose to have an alcoholic drink. It's not something I need, want or give much thought to. If I was offered one and it looked good I'd go for it.

My mother and her friends all drink a lot socially, their dinner parties etc are mostly about the wine (or champagne). Age group 55-65.

My friends and I 25-35 are far less in to drinking. I don't know if that's coincidental or what. Certainly in the last few years I have felt less pressured to drink.

AViewFromTheWindows · 22/01/2021 19:44

Agree, OP

Meredithgrey1 · 22/01/2021 19:45

It must just be that you are infinitely superior

Not one of you drinkers have answered me though?
Do you ever have fun without it?

Yes, that’s right, no one who drinks ever has fun without alcohol.

(I don’t drink, btw)

iklboo · 22/01/2021 19:45

Of course I can have fun without alcohol. I don't drink every night, I don't drink every time we go out (when allowed). I make jokes about it sometimes but I like to enjoy a nice meal & company with friends without getting wasted. It's not a necessity. I just don't feel the need to get a large, high horse, sit on it & lecture others about their choices.

Snowisfallinghere · 22/01/2021 19:46

I do not get people's obsession with eating cake!
I don't eat cake, I don't mind the taste, I just don't NEED it if you get me.
I dont particularly like feeling stuffed, but even just to have one or two mouthfuls doesn't appeal to me...its calories that I don't need and it actually does nothing beneficial for the human body.
All I ever see people on here post is how after homeschooling they need a slice of cake...why? How's it going to help? Why do so many of you need to put carbs in your body in order to feel good? Why not eat a vat of ice cream instead? Why cake?
Are you boring without it? Can't you have fun without a slice of cake?

The "Prosecco o'clock" cushions I saw for sale recently made me roll my eyes, but generally I couldn't give less of a shit about people fancying a glass of something with a percentage. Whatever floats your boat.

Mind you, I'm a recovering alcoholic, and back in the day you probably could've floated an actual boat on the amount I drank.

WINKINGatyourage · 22/01/2021 19:49

I’m with you OP.

I think it’s a social thing. It’s the thing people connect over? “Oh you love a drink too? We’re pals then!” So people make a big deal of it. It’s trendy to be mad for the drink.

TheOrigRights · 22/01/2021 19:50

I understand what you mean OP, though I let it wash over me.

I'm bored of Why Mummy Drinks Gin, or Hoorah for Gin and all the oh so funny jokes about school gates/mums/kids/gin etc, and the tat you can buy.

It's become acceptable to deal with the challenges of motherhood by drinking and telling people about it.
