Best chocolate brownie recipe?

Please share your favourite.

I made some last week but they went cakey. I read that as soon as you can smell them they’re nearly done - is that true?

My favourite is Nigella's recipe in Feast. It's always worth checking with a blade or stick before you think they're ready and really it's personal preference for how gooey you like them in the middle, with the Nigella ones they definitely need to have cracked on top. Also they can cook a little more once you take them out although not much. Plus your oven can make a difference. So yeah check early and then just do 3-5 minute intervals until the knife comes out slightly gooey or clean. But obviously the cleaner it is the more cakey they will be.

  1. Obtain Costco membership.
  2. Go to Costco.
  3. Buy Ghirardelli Brownie Mix.
  4. Do exactly what it says on the packet.

@TodgerStrunk do they do Chocolate Bark by that company?! That stuff is the only American sweetie I LOVE.

No its gotta be Betty Crocker (though actually Duncan Hines Chewy Fudge Brownie is the ultimate but hard to get in UK).

Also available from ebay.

www.ebay.co.uk/b/Ghirardelli/258022/bn_7023511527 @SoddingWeddings there's some bark in here. I haven't seen it in store, but there's a few Costco uk groups on Facebook, you could ask there?

Search for Nigella’s snow flecked brownies. I’ve been making them for years, and anyone who tries them always asks for the recipe.

LBOCS2 · 22/01/2021 17:17

Best ever chocolate raspberry brownies.

Works every time. Only involves a saucepan, no mixer required, which means it wins over other recipes IMO.

Imkindreally · 22/01/2021 17:25

Binging with Babish - gooey brownie recipe not the cakey one.... soft fudgey indulgent brownie that’s cracked and chewy in the thin top later Grin

SteveHarringtonsHair · 22/01/2021 17:26

This is the best brownies recipe ever OP. Everyone I’ve ever made it for agrees Smile

Pashazade · 22/01/2021 17:55

Ahh yes "snow flecked brownies" are the ones in Feast.

westendgirl780 · 22/01/2021 18:06

Yep the nigella snow flakes ones absolutely. Although I overbaked my last batch, it was a heartbreaker.

LemonDrizzles · 22/01/2021 18:36

Following with interest. I've been searching 25 years for a recipe...

Duckyneedsaclean · 22/01/2021 18:39

Delia's American brownie recipe is the best imo. Not cakey in anyway. I replace nuts with milk choc chunks personally.

I like these, they are easy to make and tasty. Can't pretend to have tried many other recipes though.

Felicity cloake writes a column for the guardian where she tests lots of recipes for the same thing and then publishes the ‘perfect’ one.

Her brownies are perfect
As are her cookies
And her Dahl
And her Yorkshire puddings
And ..... see where i’m going.

There are a couple of books but you can find them all in past guardians online.
