Melania has been like a zombie throughout his presidency. Now I hope she can be free to live her own life and bring up her son as she chooses.

Never understood the whole 'wife of a hated person must be innocent' stance some people take just because she's a woman. Many/most are just as bad, if not worse. They're the ones calling the shots behind closed doors and the man, being made to believe he's in charge, stupidly carries out the plan.

As far as the marriage goes, she has been very honest about what she gets from it - money. He has also enabled her family to move to America.

If she left him her family would not have access to incidental perks like staying at his properties, and as a minor child Barron would be ignored and at the bottom of the inheritance list.

The only question is how much money is left - but if his wealth is threatened, any remaining assets will certainly be hidden from ex wives.

The rumours on the gossip blogs are that she is preparing for divorce, but that it won't be a public, dirty-laundry-airing bombastic one in order to protect her son from the negative attention.

I don't think she will. She strikes me as a very private person who hated having to live her life in the media spotlight, so I think going back to being a private person will suit her just fine.

They live separate lives - pre-2016 they lived in separate floors of the Trump Tower and rarely saw each other and even in the WH they had separate rooms - so now she can go back to her life of shopping, beauty treatments and not seeing him.

Plus, I agree that she's very much like him. Note how she very rarely disagreed with anything he said or did, even supported it on occasion. She's a Trump, make no mistake about it. She's every bit as petty, shallow and self-regarding as he is.

A bit tasteless to speculate how long, even though if it happens it will be no surprise.

A divorce wouldn't surprise me. Given his impending legal / financial difficulties she may be looking at her exit plan and options for retaining custody of their son / financial settlement.

I do think she must have spent the past few years absolutely shitting herself. She never signed up to be First Lady, and was so unprepared.

I think he gladly pays for her time and her beauty when he needs her ,,reckon he did a deal from the get go on the marriage assets with a pre nup so if she wants the charmed life she has to stick around! I think they may be together a long time.

What happens if he goes to jail? Maybe she'll end up in better circumstances controlling their existing money with him out of the picture anyway, rather than divorced (and it'll be an ugly case) with whatever settlement is given.

I do feel a bit sorry for Barron though. Poor kid never had a chance with those two as parents and always looked slightly sad and lonely. He never got to experience a normal child/teenagerhood as all the people he meets either despise him without knowing him as a person, or desperate sycophants without knowing him as a person.

If that’s true it was a bit short sighted to spend getting on for £100,000 on the leaving the White House outfits.

She could always ask Ivanka and Jared for a handout. I was reading about Jared’s dad on wiki last night (I know, I drifted into it) ,after coming to the US as a penniless refugee , and working as a carpenter, he managed to squirrel away billions despite being imprisoned for various monetary offences linked to fraud and bribery. Perhaps “despite” wasn’t the right word to use . Jaw dropping story.

I wouldn’t be surprised if she waits until Barron is 18, it would be a cleaner break then and he wouldn’t have to see his Dad at all if he didn’t want to. I know nothing about her, but I’ve read that she’s an attentive Mum, if nothing else.

I’m in the US and it’s different rules to the UK, where I believe children can stop seeing their NRP at 16. They’d have to go to court to do that in the US and knowing Trump, it would be nasty and messy.
