My perimenopausal brain has turned to mush, I’m sleeping poorly so always tired, and have some things worrying me so my concentration is shot to pieces and I’m finding it hard to read the usual literary fiction I enjoy!

Please suggest some thrilling books that I will get sucked into and not be able to put down. Well written, ideally, but certainly gripping!

TIA 🙂

Omg @Ghislainedefeligonde I downloaded it after you posted & finished it last night! Bloody amazing.

Snare - the first in a trilogy set in Iceland. You need to read the whole trilogy (the first has a very unsatisfactory ending if you read it on its own) but they're very short, so it's not a big undertaking.

I can't remember who it's by, but it's an Icelandic author.

Placemarking for suggestions .

I wouldn't bother with The Guest List though .

I certainly second the Strike series and Val Mcdermid.
And the Richard Osman book "The Thursday Murder Club".
Like a PP I know where I want to retire to.*

One I've had recommended to me and has excellent reviews is "A Kiss Before Dying" by Ira Levin. NB I haven't read it yet, but I enjoyed "Rosemary's Baby" and "The Stepford Wives", so I seem to like his style.

*R. Osman's bed. Tonight Blush

I just think he's so witty and intelligent

It's okay - DH feels the same about Victoria Coren-Mitchell.

But I've laminated my list... Smile

Ah, didn't realise this thread had had a bit of a revival.
Thanks all, for your suggestions. I've already bought a few and am waiting for them to arrive; can't wait to be "thrilled"!

Hope others have found inspiration, too 😊
