Argh! Why do companies do this?!

Oxo cubes used to be perfectly crumbleable. Squish 'em in their packet, crumble them into the sauce, job's a good'un.

So they have to change the shape to a stupid X shape that even Chuck Bloody Norris would struggle to crush, let alone my puny fingers.

WHY????

IncludeWomenInTheSequel · 17/01/2021 17:06

They've been an X shape for as long as I can remember!

I did try to tell my mum they are an X about five years ago and she totally did not believe me. Weird Oxo Denial Syndrome I believe it's called. WODS. There is no known cure.

GrouchyKiwi · 17/01/2021 17:09

[shocked] I just opened my last lovely crushable Vegetable flavoured Oxo and it is indeed an X!

So why is the Chicken flavoured one an X-rock and not crushable at all?! It's a conspiracy.

Ah, fricksake, botched the Shock face.

Just use marigold, are you in the 80s?Grin

bluecheesefan · 17/01/2021 17:13

The longer you keep them the harder they get. I've found the chicken ones pretty unwieldy too.

greensnail · 17/01/2021 17:16

Apparently they crumble easier if you keep them in the fridge.

I don't know what marigold is.

But yes, I'm from NZ and thus 50 years behind. It's scientifically proven.

The vege ones were bought well before the chicken ones. I bet the shop was getting rid of old stock.

This is a Top Tip and I am going to try it!

The chicken ones have always been virtually indestructible - I use a grater!

The beef ones still crumble very easily. I don't think I've used the veg ones.

But they have all been X shaped for years.

Mumdiva99 · 17/01/2021 17:29

I buy oxo cubes and have absolutely no idea what you are talking about X shape??? Are you all mad? On some sort of mass hallucination?

GingerNorthernLass · 17/01/2021 17:35

No, that's recent isn't it?

Just use Knorr, they are rectangular so you can get your squishing fix!

Funksoul · 17/01/2021 17:38

Oh god, get Morrisons own ones, save the stress Wine

hilariousnamehere · 17/01/2021 17:40

Chicken oxo are always RIDICULOUSLY hard - put them in a pan and bash them with a wooden spoon 😂

MaggieFS · 17/01/2021 17:42

Oxo cubes are crap anyway because you need about three to make a pint up.

chocolatesaltyballs22 · 17/01/2021 17:44

I used a perfectly crumble-able non x-shaped one today; I have no idea what you're all on about!!

Utilityroomenvy · 17/01/2021 17:51

I was 99% certain they were just cubes but realised I didn’t actually know because I squish them while in the packet and then pour the crumbly bits out. Have just unwrapped one and realised it IS like a little x-shape! Now I have a stock cube with no purpose Grin

OP lives in New Zealand.
GrouchyKiwi · 17/01/2021 17:54

I'm actually in the UK now, BingBong. I'm not actually sure Oxo exists in NZ. I think it's all Maggi over there.

OMG that’s so true! 😱

I usually use cheapo own brand ones and had to buy oxo the other day. Was most annoyed that they wouldn’t crumble. I don’t give a flying fox what shape they are, it won’t tempt me to buy one brand over another, however their lack of crumble-ness will indeed force me to go elsewhere. Back to my normal ones. Although I do prefer those ‘stock pots’ style thingies. Way better for cooking with.

AvoidingNextdoorNeighbour · 17/01/2021 18:15

I wonder how much money Oxo has saved by cutting that teeny fraction of stock cube out to make the x shape. Bet it's quite a few bob by now. Very sneaky.
It's the same with chocolate bars getting smaller by a few grams each year. Less bang for our buck.

But Oxo cubes are thing of the past now for me anyway, ever since I tried a Knorr Rich Beef stock cube/pot. Pure concentrated, delicious meatiness. Even the normal Knorr beef cubes can't come close to that much tastiness.

sueelleker · 17/01/2021 18:39

AvoidingNextdoorNeighbour I prefer the Oxo stock pots.

Freddiefox · 17/01/2021 18:41

Yadnu, they are almost unusable

DinosaurOfFire · 17/01/2021 18:42

@Utilityroomenvy Pop the unloved and unused cube in a mug, add hot water, stir till it's dissolved and hey presto! A warm cosy drink.

Akire · 17/01/2021 18:46

I can confirm Knor are very soft and crumb with ease!
