SO ANGRY WITH TESCO!

Dazzband · 16/01/2021 10:27

I had a delivery slot booked last night. Waited and waited, it didn't turn up. I called Tesco and they said that the driver attempted delivery and there was no answer -thats a lie!
So they have refunded me.
I had no call or message from the driver.
So after complaining, I'll get a £5 goodwill gesture. I'm absolutely fuming!

@Whatwouldscullydo

How is it lying to say the driver tried to deliver, if in fact they were at the wrong house? (Where no one answered as they knew they were not expecting anyone.)

Whatwouldscullydo · 16/01/2021 12:41

Well exactly. People are more forgiving if you are just honest with them.

I live in a road where there's very similar other names.

So occasionally delivery drivers make that mistake. And if there's a problem , they calm or we call we will go through directions etc and occasionally we have dropped off packages ourselves.

But "attempted delivert" bollocks would piss me right off. If I was in amd know for a fact that no one had showed up.

I haven't ever stopped using a company because they made a mistake and rectified it.

I've ditched them because they charged bollocks about having losted it when they haven't or trying to tell me I wasn't in

JinglingHellsBells · 16/01/2021 12:42

I've had delivery drivers ring my bell at all weird hour- like so early I'm still in bed. I've poked my head out of the window and told them where to go :) Nicely and re-directed them.

If I'd not bothered they may have gone back to the store and said there was no one in.

It's a very simple mix up.

Whatwouldscullydo · 16/01/2021 12:43

If they were at the wrong house they'd have clarified the address surely ?..

Or called

Its very suspicious to get such a blanket response and no call

Grin but you weren't in at your neighbour's house were you???

Is it so hard to understand he was probably at the wrong house?

ifIwerenotanandroid · 16/01/2021 12:43

Our supermarket deliveries have been great, but after the first one was left on my neighbour's doorstep I realised I needed to spell out exactly how to find our house. It's in a cul de sac with quite an odd layout, so I describe it with details of colours etc on every order, as someone upthread suggested.

I also added house numbers to the garage & just above the doorbell, so they know they've found the right place - though this didn't stop a courier leaving something on our doorstep yesterday that was for a house down the road.

Megan2018 · 16/01/2021 12:44

We fleetingly went to Tesco recently when Ocado changed to M&S. They did the same thing to us, blatant lie. Claimed they knocked on the door and no answer. We have electric gates and cameras-no-one can knock on our front door without being let in and seen on camera. The camera on the gate picks up the entire approach road. They never came to the road, let alone the gate and front door.

We live rurally and it was a very late slot, expect they ran out of time and couldn’t be arsed. We went back to Ocado pronto-I’d rather have shit M&S food that turns up in a pandemic Hmm

Why would someone answer their door to some strange person if they were not expecting a delivery? We are in the midst of a pandemic. I'd not want to come face to face with someone on my doorstep, not knowing what it was about especially as there are so many other scams going with deliveries (DPD being scammed.)

We don't answer the door at all for any deliveries, even food. I wave out of the window if they need a response.

JinglingHellsBells · 16/01/2021 12:48

OP you might or might not know, but Tesco gives all use by date food away to food banks (one near me.)

They do not like to waste food and your delivery would be binned.

You might be cynical and think the driver toddled off home with it, but the odds are he was lost possibly or address not clear, and what you were told is true.

Drivers value their jobs especially at the moment.
They are not going to risk being sacked for doing things like this on purpose.

fourquenelles · 16/01/2021 12:49

I ha this a month ago with Sainsburys. No call and when I contacted their customer services I was told that the traffic was too heavy and he couldn't stop due to traffic lights and double yellow lines. There are no traffic lights or double yellow lines and there was an empty space for a van outside my house for an hour either side of the delivery slot. I did get reimbursed but I didn't even get a fiver as a good will gesture Sad
My opinion was that their "experienced" driver couldn't be arsed with the last delivery of the day. I am a stubborn old moo and will no longer shop at Sainsbury.

Whatwouldscullydo · 16/01/2021 12:50

The delivery driver would have called though .

They certainly do if they wanna deliver earlier than arranged..

You expect the mistake once with people you haven't used befire.

If you are a regular customer and they know where u live its a bit more suspicious.

We stopped using tesco however when they cancelled our delivery at realky short notice then showed up and delivered over the road

WombatChocolate · 16/01/2021 12:51

The fact they did knock on your door, but say they did, does not make it a lie. As many others have said, they probably knocked on a door somewhere...clearly the wrong door and not yours. They THOUGHT they knocked on your door but were wrong. This isn’t a lie.

I do think they should ring if there is no answer. This is the thing I would enquire about with the call centre. Perhaps not all drivers have this facility, which is something to take up with the organisation.

I would give the benefit if the doubt over one mistake like this. If it happened again, I would probably switch supplier. But anyone can make a mistake.

I have to say I have made a mistake with Tesco myself. I had champagne in the basket to hold the slot and forgot to add to the order or cancel the champagne. They turned up with it, I was embarrassed and asked them to take it back. They were very gracious and did so without making me feel daft and refunded me immediately. It was good customer service. Luckily they didn’t bin me as a customer or go to Twitter about idiot customers or get furious. I’m also willing to cut them some slack over the odd instance of being late etc. They are generally extremely good in my experience and have stepped up to this vast increase in demand amazingly well.

There will be some problems every week. Some of them will be that the customer isn’t in when the driver calls. It happens. Sometimes they will have mistakenly gone to the wrong address, it happens.

Kazzyhoward · 16/01/2021 12:52

@Mcmole

I would also be really angry about that. I'm annoyed enough with asda who didn't substitute my bread last week - surely there was a loaf of bread somewhere in the store that would have done?! Had to pay a fortune with deliveroo to get some from the Co-op instead.
We had similar with Morrisons, but with milk. There must have been other sizes/types of milk, but no:- "no substitute available". That was just one of many similar problems with their home delivery. Never used them since.
StarlightLady · 16/01/2021 12:52

Not Tesco related, but l had 2 cases of wine left on the doorstep in full view, complete with picture of wine bottles on the front. Nobody knocked or rung the bell.

fourquenelles · 16/01/2021 12:52

Just to clarify. The driver returned to the warehouse. There was no attempt to deliver to me or anyone else on my road. I had had many many deliveries from them before. I live in a town, not a rural area.

Kazzyhoward · 16/01/2021 12:54

Whatever the reason, lie or mistake, they should re-pack and delivery as soon as they can, without you having to choose a slot the same way as everyone else. They must be able to fast-track and over-ride their systems to give you a quicker/sooner alternative, especially as the mistake/lie or whatever is at their end, not yours!

WombatChocolate · 16/01/2021 12:54

In all the many years I have had Tesco deliveries, I have never had the same driver twice. It is. A new place to find every time for some driver.

bluecheesefan · 16/01/2021 13:03

It isn't TESCO you need to be angry with, it is the DELIVERY DRIVER.

However if somewhere had managed to find the place everyone before and successfully managed to the day after too all without actually double checking any info with the customer which presumably you would if no one had been able to find the place. I mean you'd call wouldn't you? Make sure you'd got the address right ?it does make you suspicious.

I have to say now with covid ajd the fact they have to photograph the delivery on your doorstep our packages are miraculously showing up more without issue. We still get the odd one that's not delivered properly but incidences are alot less now everyones home all day and protocol is they have to provide proof of delivery

CoronaIsWatching · 16/01/2021 13:04

Amazon did this to me once, I was fuming

The driver might be at fault to start, but it's up to the company to rectify it and offers a solution.

YABU. These things happen and it's hardly the end of the world.

Persianparadise · 16/01/2021 13:07

My friends just back from Tesco and she says it’s a nightmare. Families of 6 doing shopping, kids running around picking things up and putting back. People arguing at the checkouts. I’m thinking this is where it’s spreading most.

Elderflower14 · 16/01/2021 13:08

Thursday night just gone I had a Morrisons delivery booked for between 9 and 10... at 7pm I rang Customer Services as I hadn't had an email...She rang the store and apparently they said they were short of vans and would deliver on Friday... All very good but my Mum is 84. I didn't want them coming when I was at work. Half an hour later I get an email and text saying they are delivering. I rang CS again who rang store. Yes there were coming to deliver at 11pm....Errrr no they weren't as I would be in bed and asleep then as I have to be up for work at 5. 45am. CS rang store to rearrange for tomorrow... 9.50pm.....Doorbell goes.. Delivery is there!!!
Had to send 2 bags of flour, a boxes of cakes and a packet of bread mix back as it was all soaking wet! Thanks Morrisons!!! 😡 😡 😡 😡 😡

CheetasOnFajitas · 16/01/2021 13:09

OP, did you ask Tesco why the driver did not call you when there was no answer at the door?

If so, what did they say?
