SO ANGRY WITH TESCO!

Dazzband · 16/01/2021 10:27

I had a delivery slot booked last night. Waited and waited, it didn't turn up. I called Tesco and they said that the driver attempted delivery and there was no answer -thats a lie!
So they have refunded me.
I had no call or message from the driver.
So after complaining, I'll get a £5 goodwill gesture. I'm absolutely fuming!

If your shop is back at the store and hasn’t been put back on the shelves if you kick up enough they may be able to put it on a run for today but considering how much pressure they are probably under may just be better to get a new slot unless of course you are desperate and can’t get out to get bits you need

Mango101 · 16/01/2021 11:54

Maybe they should be required to take a photo of your front door as proof :)

Newjobnewstart · 16/01/2021 11:55

I honestly cant fault tesco - i.missed a delivery once as i had fallen asleep (to many wines the night before) i called and they said they could arrange for me to click and collect later that evening, then phoned about an hour later to say they would deliver it anyway. Totally my fault but they stepped up

BadNomad · 16/01/2021 11:57

Did it happen to be one of the last delivery slots for that night? I've had that happen 3 times! No food, no phone call. Then when I phone if get told "Sorry the van broke down. Here's a £5 voucher for your convenience."

Skipsurvey · 16/01/2021 12:00

i had a no show with tesco a couple of years ago, they had driver problems and didnt want to come out so late and so allegedly rebooked for the following day, but of course this didnt happen,
i very rarely use them now.

WeAreHalfWayThere · 16/01/2021 12:02

I would be annoyed but your anger is disproportionate

it really is not.

At a time when so many people have isolate, for their sake or for the sake of others! it's unacceptable.

If someone down the street, who should be isolating after testing positive, ends up going to the supermarket because there's no food left for the kids, it IS an issue.

AwaAnBileYerHeid · 16/01/2021 12:08

I sympathise that it's annoying but "SO ANGRY!" is a bit of an overreaction.

WombatChocolate · 16/01/2021 12:11

Any chance if you giving them the benefit of the doubt?
Mixups do happen and dont have evil intent behind them. Not everyone’s out to get you.

Yes, it is really annoying when you’re left without food. But these things happen and to be honest if you dealt with the person on the end of the phone in the hostile way you’ve come across here, rather than by reasonably enquiring what happened and looking for a solution, you are far less likely to get a good outcome from this.

Get a sense of perspective here.....how will you react when something truly awful happens if you are fuming and furious over this?

Perhaps ring again and politely talk about how you cannot understand how it happened as you were here and ask what is the soonest available slot they can offer you. Get beyond blame and look to get some food into your house.

Whatwouldscullydo · 16/01/2021 12:12

They lied. So yes in that moment they chose to lay the blame at ops door rather than take responsibility for it.

If there's a mix up say. But don't lie

PinkSpring · 16/01/2021 12:13

The driver should always ring the number you have listed on your order/account if you do not answer the door - have you checked they have the correct number for you? If there is no one home/no answer and no one answers the phone call, they won't wait around because they can't. It would then be up to customer services to try and reach you.

Occasionally, they will take the order back to store for you to collect, but if you have a late evening delivery - it would go back out on the shelves as they can't store it until the next day for you.

I don't know of any drivers at our store who would simply lie and say they tried - the vans all have tracking and cameras so it's fairly easy to find out where a driver was at any particular time.

Was your slot at the end of a shift (so around 12/1pm or 6pm/10pm)?

Catty1720 · 16/01/2021 12:14

You need to ask head office to put you through to the store. They are better to deal with as the people in head office don’t always understand. They always just through refunds and vouchers at customers when really all you want is your shop.

mylovelydd · 16/01/2021 12:14

I've had this from Sainsburys a few times and also Asda. Mind you I have also had this from Amazon and various delivery companies (looking straight at you Hermes)

socketpocket · 16/01/2021 12:16

We regularly have a delivery at the end of a shift, tonight it's 10pm to 11pm as it's just £1 for delivery, each week (we have a reserved slot) they phone and come about an hour early.

Is it? There's no slots available in any of my local supermarkets until the end of next week. It's not like you can just rebook another one for the following day.

Sorry but I agree with @wearehalfwaythere

If OP is still 'REALLY ANGRY' at 10.37 the following morning that is disproportionate

Iknowwhatudidlastsummer · 16/01/2021 12:24

I would be angry too. I could understand a phone call "van broken down, we cannot bring the order", but I would not accept a lie, a refusal to offer a solution especially not in the current circumstances.

The OP still hasn't got food, anyone else would be angry. You might be able to jump in your car and do the shopping instead, fine, but what about people who can't?

Butterymuffin · 16/01/2021 12:27

They should put your delivery back in for the next available slot. Ring and ask them to do that.

I use Morrisons and their delivery service is very good. Once and once only there was a delivery glitch, in several years of use, and they got it delivered the next morning instead.

EmbarrassingAdmissions · 16/01/2021 12:30

We recently had a food delivery notification that threw us as we hadn't received it.

The firm confidently showed us a picture of the front door of the house to which they'd delivered it - such a clear picture that it plainly showed that it was the wrong house number and a very different door.

PuppyMonkey · 16/01/2021 12:30

Have you tried taking the complaint to Twitter? You might get a bit better than a fiver for your inconvenience?

Thewinterofdiscontent · 16/01/2021 12:30

@FabulouslyFab

My DIL used to get this, they lived up a country Lane and had barky dogs so would never have not heard them. I guess he just couldn’t be bothered.
My DH is currently a delivery driver ( high level professional in theatre normally).

Literally every shift he has houses down unmarked roads, houses with no name or number, long country lanes that aren’t really roads or signs you can’t see because they’re under a bush with zero street lighting.
And the people he deliver to all smile and say “ we’re a nightmare to find” or moan that he’s late.
. Yeah put a sodding name or number up so people can find you then.

JinglingHellsBells · 16/01/2021 12:33

He was clearly at the wrong house.

We get food drivers at our day a lot and they are looking for next door ( odd road layout with 2 small tracks.)

Why lie though?

If you were missed of the schedule that’s not likely to be the delivery drivers fault.
If you’re saying the driver missed you intentionally because they wanted to go home quicker they still have to put all your shopping back in the store which is a much of a pain as just handing it over to you.

Mix up do happens where people have the same name or the phone number prints incorrectly.

User27aw · 16/01/2021 12:38

Ive had a couple of no shows for evening deliveries so i avoid them now. Both times they delivered the next day. I find they respond very quickly on Twitter direct message. You do have to kick up a fuss though in a polite way.

WombatChocolate · 16/01/2021 12:38

It’s not categorically possible in this case to say they lied.

There are issues with deliveries...it happens all the time.

You’d get further in receiving your shopping with a calm conversation enquiring about if they range when there was no answer (and if not why not) and when they can offer you the delivery again. In these kind of situations, friendly, firm and clear and looking for solutions, rather than furious, blaming and not interested in discussing or finding out, gets the results...and often more compensation too.

All this suggestion of goi g to Twitter or the Press over 1 incident.....really?? Can’t we manage to live with some things not quite goi g the way we would like and accept these things are part of life...disappointing and irritating, but manage to move on rather than need an inquest into them? Especially at the moment when there are some bigger issues. Don’t you think Tesco might be stretched to their limit too and the workers doing daft shifts? It doesn’t stop it being irritating, but might allow you to calm down and tone done the fury a bit.
