@MrsAvocet I grew up in Hessle, from 1985 til I moved in 2003. It was a nice place to grow up in.
Hessle is nice, most of my family still live there. It’s just a small town, has a central square with pubs and shops, quite a few independents.
Big bridge, lovely walk along the river up to North Ferriby.

KKJ1980 · 14/01/2021 22:00

Hessle person here and live next to the Country Park. We do love living here!

CharlottaCarlotta · 14/01/2021 22:02

My ex boyfriend lived in Kirkella which was lovely. Unfortunately he died of a drugs overdose many years after we split up. His poor Mum, she was so sweet.

Mamascoven · 14/01/2021 22:15

Stunning. The interior & exterior is lovely. So much character & good price.

LunaNorth · 14/01/2021 22:24

I grew up on Boothferry Estate, so Hessle was my nearest little town. I used to spend every Saturday morning there, using the library and spending my pocket money in the little shops.

I got married (the first time!) in All Saints Church, Hessle.

My late parents lived in Westella (they went up in the world) which was very nice, but I had much more fun around Spring Bank and the Avenues Wink

SanFairyElla · 15/01/2021 01:29

This is bringing back memories! I lived above an Indian restaurant on Princes for a bit. Wouldn't touch the Springbank house for reasons others have mentioned. The Avenues are nicer but if I was buying in the area I would move out a bit.

Krazynights34 · 15/01/2021 01:32

I suspect that the photos are quite clever.
Look past the decor.
However, I’d buy it!
It’s 100000 less than we’ve paid for a shite bungalow on Essex

Rtmhwales · 15/01/2021 01:50

That's the first (only?) house I've ever seen listed here that I love the design of. But I'm North American so I highly suspect that interior design would put all my British friends off Grin

Spring Bank is hell on earth

user1471565182 · 15/01/2021 06:29

that corner of Spring Bank and Princes Ave theres been something like 5 stabbings in as many months.

user1471565182 · 15/01/2021 06:31

I still live on Newland Ave, MonkeyPuddle. I really like it down here but I live among all the polish people so its very quiet. And Also moved here from Beverley road so definitely an improvement.

user1471565182 · 15/01/2021 06:37

@MrsAvocet Id say Hessle is nice yes, its got some really good places to eat especially, has that sort of small town attached to a city vibe. And then right next to it you have some nice countryside and the wolds near it. For family history we have the Hul History Centre, its really brilliant. I used it to research Jewish history in Hull but for family history stuff its just perfect. Id imagine in that period of history Hessle wouldnt have been attached to Hull properly and would have been rural.

Lulu1919 · 15/01/2021 06:53

I'm from Hull
Well West Hull village 😂
It's a busy road.....but hey it's a home and it's in a good school catchment

I'm in Dorset ....I couldn't buy a decent studio flat for that ....beach huts cost more !!!!

I escaped over 30 years ago. I was wooed by the northeast! My family is still in the area, though so, in normal times, I visit a few times a year.

StillGoingToWork · 15/01/2021 08:30

As someone living in a titchy flat in SE London worth £350k with no way of getting a house unless I move to Zone 6 or beyond...I would buy this! I love Georgian and Victorian houses!

Hello, I live near Hull and I am from Hull. The first house mentioned, on Spring Bank West, is not in a nice area hence the price. However, a lot of HU5, particularly the area known as The Avenues, is lovely - leafy avenues with big old houses all different styles and a really active residents association, lots of local activities and a real sense of community. Main problem though is lack of parking (most of the houses do not have a drive or garage). Hull is a very mixed bag - some areas are beautiful, it has a lovely old town full of interesting museums but some areas are very rough and it has a high index of social deprivation. If you search HU5 though and look for Victoria, Park, Marlborough and Princes Avenue along with Salisbury street you can see how beautiful these houses ., the area is safe are and houses are a bargain as well. I live in nearby gentrified Beverley and you pay a lot more here (DH would not live in Hull .. he perceives it as rough though I would happily live in the avenues area).

MadameButterface · 15/01/2021 14:43

a close pal of mine lives in Hull and their house is on the market, I only popped into this thread to see if anyone's linked it yet because it's DREAMY. they haven't!! keep looking. I love the Hull accent. And patty butties.

MariaAngustias · 15/01/2021 15:02

@MadameButterface oh thanks about the accent - I have been teased about it over the years, particularly when I worked in Grimsby :). SIL moved up from London and works as a teacher and struggled to understand some of the kids at first. Hull has a lot going for it and it is well worth spending a weekend visiting the the Fruit Market area, The Deep and the Museum Quarter.
