I have a seemingly never ending supply of useless trivia I can call upon for any situation. God knows why because I don't try and remember this stuff it just sticks, ready for me to regurgitate at a given moment. My poor adult dc pause sometimes waiting for me to furnish them with some rubbish I have remembered Blush

Marmaladegin · 14/01/2021 18:08

@BiarritzCrackers

Baking and decorating cakes. I like the outcome, but I see it as a necessary chore, in much the same way cleaning the bathroom gives a certain satisfaction, but I don't enjoy it.

I wouldn't welcome being asked to clean someone else's bathroom because they think I've done a decent job of my own, and that's how I feel about being asked to bake cakes.

Haha! Excellent analogy.

Oh definitely breastfeeding- soooo boring!!

ElizabethofpeanutYorkies · 14/01/2021 18:15

DIY. I taught myself to tile, grout, plasterboard, silicone, plaster, electrics, drilling ( masonry and plasterboard) , use of appropriate fixings, water and replacing taps. A new button board for my extractor fan, basic electrics. Replacing switch covers, laying wood floor and replacing flush button on closed couple toilet. Reconnecting integrated washing machines and dishwashers. Painting and glossing. Hanging trellis, replacing cracked patio slabs.

Got fed up of waiting for now , ex DH , to attempt these things and being ripped off by tradesmen. Trial and error and YouTube tutorials!

Don't like doing it, but i can when needed . Over last 9 yrs i calculate i have saved over £10k in trades "labour fees" all by doing it myself!

How can you be really good at washing up? Confused

How can you be good or bad at washing up? Methinks someone has got that into your head to make you do it all the time! 😂

I would like to know that too. It’s washing up. 🤷‍♀️

Being empathic and a good listener.

H1978 · 14/01/2021 18:27

DH says I’m good at cooking, not sure myself, but I see it as a chore.

ElizabethofpeanutYorkies · 14/01/2021 18:47

@Sparklingbrook I have been to friends ,where the line of yesterday's cup of tea ,has been still present on a-cup. Also, remnants of a previous meal on knives and forks. Proper good thorough hand washing up takes effort and not really enjoyable. I think OP means she washes up well but does not enjoy!

Some give the dishes and cutlery what my nan used to call a " hairs lick". Not really sure what that means but my nan was talking about her neighbour at no 113 in the 1940's-50's. I think that particular women only had access to an outside tap in rural farm environment. Her plates, cups and cutlery were never upto my Nan's standards. Nan had a tap in her kitchen, albeit only cold water. They had to boil it for baths etc. Anyway, Nan never accepted a cup of tea from the Mrs at 113.

Nan died 40 yrs ago aged 96! My nan always boiled her water over the fire for washing up. Nan's plates, butter knife and bread knife were always gleaming.

Ah ok, I think it's a fairly straightforward activity, water as hot as you can take it and a good brush.
But that said I have a dishwasher-which I am excellent at loading but not over keen on unloading. Grin

Socialising. I can work a room and make people laugh easily - but am dying inside whilst doing it! I love seeing people in small groups but just hate parties and big gatherings. I look like I'm having the best time ever though!

I'm also good at cooking but loathe every second. I'd have tinned soup or scrambled egg for dinner every day if I lived alone.

EssentialHummus · 14/01/2021 19:23

Remembering mundanities about other people's lives. "Oh Jane, how was that dentist appointment you were worried about last time I saw you, round about April time?" See also: casual acquaintances entire family trees.

Confused

Singing. I used to enter competitions as a child and was even in a covers band in my 20s but are ridiculously nervous and shy and about singing in front of other people so these days it only happens in the shower or when I’m vacuuming Blush

DownWhichOfLate · 14/01/2021 21:24

@TweeterandtheMonkeyman - 6.5 years of it so far (more than one child, obviously). Shock
