My ewe is standing up now

We had a ewe down with listeriosis. We've been dosing her with antibiotics and energy drinks, lifting her up and turning her for three days now. Tonight she can stand on her own. It's a miracle. I might just be posting to myself but what a relief.

How lovely, bless ewe two, hope she goes from strength to strength.

derxa · 13/01/2021 19:21

Thanks. She's expecting triplets. Because of the good grass this year a lot of our ewes are due triplets and four are expecting quads Shock
Unheard of

Wow I never knew the number of lambs expected was due to the the grass!

WanderingMilly · 13/01/2021 19:25

Oh, I am so pleased, how lovely....
I'm amazed at hearing about triplets and quads!!

FiveGoMadInDorset · 13/01/2021 19:26

That’s great news, always a worry with sheep

PainterInPeril · 13/01/2021 19:29

So pleased that your ewe is on the mend! So many triplets, and quads too!Shock When are they due? Will multiples mean extra work for you when they're born? If you have the time derxa, could you possibly tell us some more about raising sheep? (Wannabe farmer hereGrin) I would love to know more!Smile

elephantoverthehill · 13/01/2021 19:30

Let us be all upstanding for the ewe.

We've never had quads before. Unfortunately they will be small. Although one farmer we know had a ewe which had sextuplets and they were bottle fed. They did very well

IhateBoswell · 13/01/2021 19:35

😳 jaw dropped at the sextuplets!

Lambs due early March. Multiples usually need to be twinned on to ewes with single lambs. Birth is always risky since the lambs get tangled up sometime in the womb. Do you have sheep already? Ryelands are a small native breed which suit a beginner I think.

RandomMess · 13/01/2021 19:44

Wow

Looks like you may be hand rearing some!!

2021ComeAtMe · 13/01/2021 20:25

Triplets and quads! Amazing Grin so happy your little ewe is doing well.

If we hang about on this thread may we be privileged enough to see some lamb photos when the time arrives? 🤞🏻

outstanding
PainterInPeril · 13/01/2021 22:45

derxa oh not long to go then! My garden is approximately 15ft x 20ft....sadly not big enough even to keep a goat, let alone sheep!Grin I rather fancy Jacobs sheep, and Welsh black mountain. Are yours Ryelands, derxa?

Clymene · 13/01/2021 22:48

Oh wow! That's very good news

hedgiehedgehog · 13/01/2021 23:00

Great news! Another one here who would love to see photos of the new arrivals in March. Actually I'd like to see your lovely ewe too!

FamilyOfAliens · 13/01/2021 23:03

I absolutely adore sheep. I used to work at the International Wool Secretariat in Ilkley. That’s how much I love sheep Grin

VeniVidiWeeWee · 13/01/2021 23:21

I adore sheep too.

Generally curried.

DramaAlpaca · 13/01/2021 23:25

Well done your ewe. Glad she's on the mend.

Fun fact: a ewe is known as a 'yo' where I live Smile

LaLaFlottes · 13/01/2021 23:28

Glad your Ewe is feeling better. How lovely to have all these lambs due in March Smile

Howmanysleepsnow · 14/01/2021 00:12

Amazing! So pleased for you both. Please keep us updated on her lambs if you have time.
What energy drink did she have?
